Correct me if I'm wrong, but the new soundwave looks cheap. I would rather get the older re-issues they have better plastic quality and more true to classic deco.

That color-scheme is sweet as hell though! Same for Blaster. Plastic debate aside, i didn't expect these to impress me as much as they do.

Back in the day I put in a pen spring into Soundwave's gun so it could shoot the missiles. I may do the same for the reissue

I keep wondering who are these G1 cartoon paint version for? I figure fans who saw the original show would prefer the original toy down to the packing. And new fans might be put off by the simplicity of the figure 🤔

Some of these have had a ton of reissues. Soundwave recently had one as well in vintage packaging and colors. They are doing something new with the G1. Personally I think its a neat idea that has only been touched on by a few E-hobby reissues up until now.

I assume they're for kids of the 80s who wished the toys looks more like the cartoons. This might be the soundwave some 45-year-old always wanted when he was little. I like the idea of them, but they're also easy to ignore since already have G1 versions of the figures I really want.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Yearning an 80’s soundwave is what got me back in to collecting tf’s. I ordered one of these just to scratch that nostalgia itch. I like the simplicity of the original mould.

I still have my boxed 84 Soundwave (actually purchased from a shop in 92 who found him behind a cupboard in the warehouse!) so I have that for nostalgia, but I do love the colours on the reissue, which look vibrant and appealing. I'm really looking forward to getting mine so I can enjoy both. Thanks for the comparison!

Soundwave was my first big Transformers so he holds a special place in my heart. Cliffjumper was my very first Transformers so he also hold a special place in my heart as well. I have the previous Walmart release and this one came in today so I'm happy. I like the toy deco more but, this isn't bad. It just looks so plain but, that's how the cartoon version was.

Like so many back in the day, my bro & I only know TF through the toys, as we didn't get cable, so I would have rather had the toy version tbh. It def is "sparser" than the og, but with paint details instead of stickers, TWO tapes instead of one, and retaining the 'die cast" all for $5 cheaper than the 2019 reissue, it's hard to complain! (They should have LABELLED it "cartoon colors" though, as just using the retro box confused people. (Either way, TF always meant a lot to me growing up, as it, (along with Zoids,) was that rare taste of Japan at a time when anime etc was just starting to get more accessible!) And @@saysoun752

So…when are they going to take G1 Soundwave and give him the 40th anniversary Prime articulation. He just needs proper knees, waist and some swivel wrists, and maybe a bicep swivel. Ankle rockers would be nice but not necessary

Shouldn't call it a 40th anniversary edition if it isn't going to be a replica of the original. They should have just used the same packaging as the transformers the movie releases if they were going with the cartoon version.

Not in the 40th Anniversary line, but there have been Hot Rod, 2 Insecticons, and the Seekers done up in cartoon colors so far. Theres a rumor of a Prime and Bombshell coming, but nothing official yet.

The Laserbeak laser gun was shorten i think when they release the commemorative version with the Soundblaster chest in 2008 i got the asia 2012 reissue and it have the short laser !!!

I cant find any mention of the short lasers for Buzzsaw or Laserbeak until the Walmart reissues. Was that version from Hasbro Asia?

Laserbeak's New eyes look a lot better. They shortened the lasers on the last mold, because the chrome plastic used to break easily on the older ones. They didn't really need the shorter ones for this version, but probably didn't want to waste money on another mold retool. I like the larger eyes on the older Ravage. Was your 40th ridiculously tight? I felt like I was going to break his feet, and legs off when I was posing him. I don't have issues with the new Soundwave's look, like most. I'd really like to see someone put the Toyhax stickers for OG Soundwave on him. I think a hybrid looking version of him might look awesome.

The joints on mine were ok, not too tight, but better tight than loose. I'm actually doing up my extra Retro Hound with chrome guns, wheels, and some G1 stickers. Kinda a mash up.

Omg do NOT transform laserbeak’s wings before his legs!!!! It stresses the joint where the body plugs into the leg. Sorry I’ve still got PTSD when my original Laserbeak broke.

Awesome thorough review. Just to let you know, it was thought that all reissue soundwaves came from the Soundblaster mold because of the protruding buttons but soundwave was released with these buttons back in 1985 in Japan. He came with Rumble and headphones and then they released Soundblaster in 87'.

I always like toon accurate Soundwave cause that’s what I grew up with (despite being born in the 2000s) but I think I like the original toy version on this mould Still buying this for my mom’s birthday cause she also grew up on this 😂

My only complain i have with soundwave is i would have paint the blue grey on the side of the deck/legs where is the volume and the switch button i would have look better and you see it paint on the cartoon too !!!

Yeah The Ravage is really great. Better than the previous reissue that game with the Legacy set with BW Battle Ravage.

I have to respectfully disagree. I really like it. I think the plastic does feel less ridged, but I wonder what the tensile strength of it is compared to the original?
