What do you make of shops telling you what to eat?
Tesco is planning to start using your Clubcard data to nag you if you're buying too many unhealthy items.
Is it a good idea - or is it none of their business?!

Schools poorly educate, they don't include parents, cheaper food uses sugars, fats, salts to make processed food taste better to make them sell better giving the artificial belief it's more cost effective than the more expensive blander foods, manufacturers use cheaper artificial supplements in their food and don't advertise it then change or that it'll breakdown rapidly into body fat and encourage hunger. There's 2 good food isles and 8-12 bad ones. Says it all about the motivations of the food industry.

Why am i not surprised it is Tesco's, used to be our regular supermarket, until the covid period, and that went all out to make your life miserable! The day we went and got to the checkout, and they tried to stop us having 2 different types of milk, when i am lactose intolerant, and so much cat food, when it was the same i get every week for my 3 cats, and couple of other issues, we said fine and just walked out, and left the whole trolly at the checkout, not been back since, use Ocado now, so much better!!

I agree with Vanessa on this, ultimately the buck does stop with the customer but there isn't any harm in being nudged or reminded/told/introduced to ideas concepts/ you don't have to do what they suggest but they're just letting you know this is better than that etc. Usually the price difference is by a few pence or 10p.

Considering we still go by the outdated food pyramid I would question whether they even know whats healthy and good for us. Example I would never eat any low fat dairy its full of chemicals and sweeteners whereas greek yogurt is high in fat but much better for you and the nutrients are more bioavailable.

What people can't afford is pre-packed veg and ready meals. We need real cookery in school again, not just writing about it.The truth is the people who need it most will ignore it.We bought a £5.46 chicken from Aldi, we've had 3 meals, roast chicken, then a chicken and mushroom pie, tomorrow a chicken sweetcorn and noodle soup, six meals. We have millions of lonely OAP's and loads of young mums who can't cook why can't we match them up share skills.

They might say buy the healthy stuff and I might never enter the door of that supermarket ever again. They will lose money this way.

Here's an idea: if shops really care about us buying healthy products, how about stocking fewer of the 'bad' ones and reduce costs of the 'good' ones? How is it people's fault if they buy what shops stock to begin with? Are all those chocolate bars and crisps just there to look at? 🤨

The example of that last caller is crazy: she orders six bottles of wine from Tesco and in the order confirmation e-mail they say "if you feel you might have a problem with alcohol, here's where you can get help". If you care that much, maybe just limit to two bottles per month or something per customer? Odd how they're happy to take our money for things they sell to us in unlimited amounts but then put the blame on us? 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@Chriswallace0405 Yes, because I wanted to add another comment and it's better to add it to my own thread than start another one? Do you not find it annoying when people do like five individual comments in the main area?

Well the uk is the sick man of Europe alot of people in this country have generally no clue how to eat and thier standards are shocking. The pressure on the nhs would be reduced massively of the uk adopted a Mediterranean diet.
