Also have a 981 GT4. It's SO GOOD that I just don't see paying 50-70k more for a 991.2 GT3 with 3 pedals. The 911 guys won't ever admit it, but the Cayman GT4 (981 or 718) is 60% of a 911 with the engine in the right place. I'm sure you've watched reviews, or possibly driven, the GT4RS - anyone honest with themselves will admit it's more balanced than the 911 on track. @@Viporghini it’s the reverse actually believe it or not. 911 at least the newer cars are very stable on the track. Off road track mistakes are usually the GT4 and 4 RS drivers. GT4 and 4RS are more nervous at the limit due to shorter wheelbase and mid engine. I know it sounds like the 911 is rear biased so should be unstable except the rear actually makes the car very stable as long as you leave the electronics on. The rear is always there and never goes. You have to do something incredibly stupid to spin out.

Porsche used to be the un-Ferrari. You could walk into a dealer, pay MSRP, and order a car how you want it. Now, unless you have been leasing a bunch of lesser models, or are willing to pay way over MSRP, you aren’t going to get an allocation for a more desirable model. I don’t think Porsche realizes just how much brand equity they have lost by behaving like jerks. Jay alluded to this as well - you have to shut the fun down before you get very far into 3rd gear, because if you get caught driving like that you'll lose your license. I know it may seem overcautious, but if you really want the car mainly for road use, it's already overkill. Not is USA. The dealers frequently ‘overlook’ obvious damage during pre-owned inspections and markups are insane. +$250,000 USD markup was not uncommon for a great drives car valued significantly less. I’ve experienced this several times from multiple dealerships: “how much are you willing to pay?” Porsche USA choosing to partner with car flippers and not actual drivers is a common trend. My proposal is to raise MSRP and then to not allow dealership markups to eliminate the issue.

I personally think the PDK is more fun for a few reasons. 1) shorter gears. I get to go up and down and up and down none stop thru the gears with PDK a lot more often than manual. Your complain on going to jail due to tall gears is even more prevalent in the manual. 2) The horsepower wars in car industry since 2015 era has really kicked off. The manual just feels slow to me. These cars are still ridiculously fast but a lot of it does come from not losing torque for that split second during shifts. With PDK this fully naturally aspirated beauty of an engine still competes even in straight line against your much higher than 500hp+ counter parts which feels gratifying to me.

In gear accel (and thus the force you feel) is slightly quicker for the manual due to less losses and lower weight. What you gain in gear you lose during the shifts, but it certainly doesn't feel slower and in fact 60-130 times are identical or slightly in the manual's favor.

991.1 RS has a different engine to a 991.2 GT3. The 991.1 RS has a revised 991.1 GT3 engine, with some internal fixes and a lowered Rev limit to 8600 rpm. And yes some 991.1 RS have had some issues, primarily if the oil isn’t replaced within 10,000 Km’s Max/ the specification of said oil isn’t 100% correct and poor fuel quality issues. But both issues can be mitigated 😌

I understand the RS with the faster pdk shifts were more likely to spit a cam shim out, which could work its way to the oil pump and cause engine damage due to low oil pressure. 991.2 engine while not foolproof is pretty solid, on the whole. Re gearboxes, i think the manual is stillmthe slightly more expensive option. Gt3's are very spec sensitive, no front lift and they struggle to sell.

Nice video. Even as a big Porsche fan, I might expose myself to blasphemy but… The Metzger was also Not fully bullet proof… I remember when looking at buying 997 GT3s, the 3.6 or 3.8… it was always better to budget for an engine rebuilt. You might Not need it… but you might…. They’re all fantastic cars and engine. But personally I wouldn’t risk the 991.1.

I like the car and the nod to the classic BRM cars, but it was a strange tie-up. You have to be really ancient and an ardent Le Mans enthusiast to remember the Rover-BRM turbine car, I'm probably both, but I was only six at the time.

There is a GT3 Touring on Collecting Cars “coming soon”… I showed it to my wife asking how much she thought it was, choosing from £80k / £180k or £280k. She sniggered and said… “80k obviously… it’s a little boring to look at”… therein another issue for the brand…. It’s done an “Audi” and for most punters, there is little visible difference between mundane and exotic… 🤨

Front number plate for use on the road? Jaguar was allowed to use stick-on front number plates on E-Types. Electric steering is required for lane departure warning.

@hpman9112 күн бұрын
I had one for just over ten years. Depending where you live but in town or heavy traffic the clutch definitely gave me “clutch leg”! Also my wife hated the very harsh ride. Go for front lift as speed bumps and awkward gradients will become very expensive. I never jelled with the manual gearbox, found it over notchy and easy to over rev unless you’re extra careful. Great as a track car but if you want it for the road buy a Turbo.
@stuartpollock842 күн бұрын
@hpman911 that's some awesome feedback. Sounds like I won't be driving this on leg day then 😅. I'm definitely looking at comfort spec and the wife knows it will be a car just for me so if she doesn't like the ride she can go in her car 😂. With those negatives out the way, you had it for over ten years, what were some of the things you loved about it?
@hpman911Күн бұрын
@ fantastic style and soundtrack. Very impressive on the track with brilliant handling and roadholding but as I said be careful you don’t miss a gear and over rev. I also went for the comfort spec so you can use the rear well for luggage etc on long road trips. It’s becoming a classic so you shouldn’t lose money after purchasing !
