I lived near London and was recently made homeless and I am sleeping on a friends sofa I'm 57 years old and this is what I have been looking at to do since February this year so thank you for telling us through your videos as what is possible and can be achieved because the local council will not help at all and I can do this as a way out of my situation. You both are lovely people and deserve all the happiness that comes your way.🍀🌽🌺🌾🌻

I can't understand some of the negative comments. I used to regularly stay in a relative's van down in Devon and it was really lovely. It had central heating, so no problem with keeping warm in cooler times. It looks great where you are and your whole setup is perfect. You have found your happy place and that's all that matters in life.

It looks lovely. The front of the van is beautiful. I can absolutely understand when you say you want peace and quiet. When we moved to our van I spent hours just walking round the countryside with my dogs, I still do. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to check that I am not dreaming. I would never go back to the city. Enjoy your new life together and ignore the negative comments. Life is too short. I count my blessings every day.

My mum in law had a static at Bassenthwaite wooden clad and we loved it. I used to say to my husband I would love to live there when we retired. No clutter and just what we needed. Take no notice of naysayers - they are jealous! That’s what my gran would say to me when people were mean 😂😂

I think that you and your wife made a good choice when you were told to leave your house. I also have a static, which is based in Skegness. If ever I lost my home for whatever reason, that's where I shall be heading to ensure I have a roof over my head. I love what you have done to your van to make it home from home. I enjoy watching your videos, keep them coming. Regards, Ann.

Hi there, just a quick one regarding keeping the heat in the van. When I lived in one what I did was buy some 70mm polystyrene or Celotex and I insulted under the the floor joist by crawling under the van and wedged them in and this was an absolute game changer to keeping the wind out and the heat in, It’s not the easiest job but I promise it will be worth it.Also I lived in one for years and absolutely loved it and you will find you get used to winter and it will be fine. Enjoy the adventure👍

After working in a drop forge as a stamper for most of my working life, i wanted a bit of peace and quiet, i found a beautiful site near Worcester, not far from the river Severn, with beautiful countryside all around me, i have only been in my caravan for 3 months and all my family have said how well and healthy i look already, i think people who knock you are just jealous, i have never been happier or more relaxed in all my life, looking forward to following more of your video's.

OK it might not be their thing but I have to say I would prefer to live where you are than in a high rise council flat where some of the Neighbours might be feral. There will always be negativity no matter what the subject, etc. I commend anyone that can live within their budget, have inner peace in Day to day life and appreciate the experience. Sharing life's simple pleasures can always be a blessing.....contentment comes from within and there are many that never find it and that is sad. We were designed to be grateful people and finding ways to share our blessings with others.....whether its knowledge or just good company its part of "blossomIng where you're planted". It really is our choice and how important is community is an inner choice as well. Always looking forward to your videos as a good neighbor sharing life. 👍👍 🇺🇸

Everyone has to do what is right for them, and change is scary for a lot of people. People are used to dealing with the problems of living in a brick and mortar home. But those have always come with their own problems (rising damp? subsidence? not things people in a caravan need to worry about! Well, not if you have to have a new caravan for the sight and you take proper care.)

It's amazing what you have done in such a short space of time. You have such a positive attitude and you got stuck in with the 'hand you were dealt with' and it's all working out. My closest friend & her husband bought an old 2 bed broken down caravan and did it up completely, taking their time and making it so comfortable. They found a lady who lived in countryside & was willing to let them rent a space in their field and had it there for several years. They sold the caravan at a profit and bought a 6 berth and again did it up. They had enough money to buy a second caravan for their children to use. They were in their 70's when they bought their first caravan. Anything is possible if have the right attitude.

My late mother moved to a privately owned well-kept site in Wales and everything was great for 10 years - couldn't have been happier, but then one of the national caravan park companies set their eyes on it and put in an offer to buy it which was accepted and it all went rapidly downhill from there. They put the site fees up massively and contracted out the site maintenance and groundkeeping to a national company and they did the absolute bare minimum which was an awful job. They also changed the rules and fees for buying and selling which for sellers basically meant you had no choice but to sell to them for pocket change as their fees for sellng off-site were the same, once you added in their cut, the disconnection fee, the change-over fee, transport fee etc I say all this because this can happen to ANY static caravan owner on ANY site at ANY time with very little notice. Just because you've got a decent site owner RIGHT NOW who doesn't charge much and doesn't care what you do so long as you keep your pitch and van presentable, doesn't mean it will stay that way. This is usually where the owners get burnt (as in my mother's case) and then your idyllic life gets turned upside down and you've got a nightmare on your hands with a lot of stress and worry. People get too complacent and think that the 300 lines in the contract that basically amount to "as the site owner, we can do what we want, whenever we want and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it" will never be enacted. I'm not against them as a whole as there are some real 'gem' sites and owners out there, but you don't generally see these advertised and need to have connections to find out about them. A friend of mine moved to a private farmer-owned site up past Newcastle 7 years ago, middle of nowhere. I go to see him a couple of times a year in my tourer. It's a 12 month holiday site but the farmer doesn't care and he [my friend] lives there full time. In those 7 years the rent only went up once, and that was just for £30 ! It's only £1750 a year and that includes water. I said to him before he moved it'd all end in tears and he'd be coming back with his tail between his legs, bankrupt and wanting to doss on my sofa, but I couldn't have been more wrong! Farmer doesn't care what you do to your van or plot so long as it's kept presentable. His biggest 'life' issue is the 80 year old bloke in the adjacent van having his TV on too loud. He only paud 12 grand for the van 7 years ago and looking at ebay they're still listing for that and more even now, so even after factoring in the 10% cut to the site owner if he decided to sell, he's still had very cheap living vs a house or flat rent. I can see the attraction but they are not for the naive or gullible. You have to fully understand what you are getting into by reading the contract umpteen times before parting with any cash.

Me too Ivan, next doors had boys so you can imagine what crap we had to put up with, they've all left now so we only see them when they come & visit their parents. I love to be quiet & just spend time in the garden. I can't fault ya both for doing what ya doing, if you're both ok with it that's all that Matters...

I dohope those farmer's hadn't been drinking whilst having their dinner at the pub. The idea of them driving on a public road after drinking, in those huge machines really worries me.! I Agree that living in the coutry is a beautiful experience. I am fortunate to live in a semi rural area, a mile out of town but completely surrounded by fields. So glad yu have found a serene and beautiful way of living. Bet you wish you had done it years ago!

There certainly is a huge movement into static caravans for whatever reason. I do think older people think it's a good way to downsize. My only issue is from a professional point of view. We obviously get a number of elderly admitted to hospital who live in static caravans locally. The issue comes when adaptations are needed due to mobility reasons. OTs go out on home environment assessments and come back saying that there is little they can offer because even grab bars cannot be secured safely due to the walls of a caravan, and should someone need the larger equipment such as profiling beds, track hoists, toilet frames or even moving around safely with a rollator frame can be issue that hasn't been thought about when the occupier was younger. In many cases patients have had to move into carehomes far earlier than really they needed to because they didn't consider how things change for all of us over the years.

Hello Ivan, I have found your journey living in a caravan fascinating. My partner and I stay in a static caravan for our holidays several times in the year so I can relate to what you're talking about. I enjoy our time in the caravan but the only issue I have is being overweight the space in the bedroom is challenging and by the end of the week I'm longing for the extra space at home. I would love the piece and quiet, I would enjoy the countryside on my doorstep where it would be far nicer to do a walk rather than round the local roads of my area. Thanks for sharing your vlogs.

Looks like you are enjoying life - ignore the negative folk! We have a van overlooking a lake which is ideal as my husband is a fisherman, it is quite rural and isolated in the winter but we are fortunate to also own (inherited) residential specification van on a commercial site with shops restaurant etc and we go there in winter when it is less busy with holidaymakers! I will be very interested to see your experience during the colder months in case we ever try it but I have to admit I would be terrified to be snowed in on our lake site - I think a very big freezer would be called for!
