Is it time for Rishi to boot out Liz 'deep state' Truss? | The News Agents

Күн бұрын

Liz Truss was doorstepped by the BBC in Westminster today and asked to explain why she'd been talking about the dangers of the 'deep state' at a Washington Conference over the weekend.
Keir Starmer went one step further in his Commons questions - asking Rishi Sunak why he hadn't kicked her out of the party for her 'tin hat' conspiracy theories?
Keir Starmer loves Liz Truss as he's seen polling showing just how unpopular she is with the public. He's trying to tie her travails to those of a weak leader, too scared to move against the former PM.
Later, is it the Home Secretary's job to tell Gaza protesters to go home? James Cleverly gave The Times an interview to say it was stretching police resources, and everyone already understood their message. Is that how protesting works? Is that how politics work?
We speak to the former Met Assistant Commissioner Helen King and Liberty - who's taking Suella to the High Court today.

His quip towards tory benches, when they tried shouting him down , was also clever: " ...they elected her ( Truss ) as leader and now they can't even bear to talk about her".
@therealpbristow
@therealpbristow 8 ай бұрын
@@TheBigMidweek1889 Not just "also clever", but a *crucial* point! Because the recent past has shown that no matter who is leading a party at election time, they may end up being be the leader-before-last in less than a year, but the same *party* will be in power for at least 3 years... So it's really important to look at the *party* when choosing which way to vote, rather than just whoever's leading them right now... and I think (hope?) more and more people are realising that.

@@therealpbristow I'm sure you're right, but it was just a quick off the cuff response to being shouted down. I doubt whether Starmer thought about it that way in that instance.

Liz Truss at CPAC was absolutely unhinged & scraping through the bottom of the barrel in political discourse. How can a former British PM - no matter how failed & embarrassed - stand on a platform calling "to end democracy"? Calling for the overthrow of a sitting US President in a country still reeling from the January 6th assault on the Capitol. A former Home Secretary whipping up Islamophobia in the Telegraph. You may dismiss all this & laugh it off, but it does matter. Where does the UK go from here?

Because we don't have any real accountability for politicians in this country, they can carry out pretty much any wrecking exercise, any misdeeds and it's dismissed as "just politics". There was a crowd funded attempt to prosecute Boris Johnson for his misdeeds of which there are many and it was dismissed out of hand as meddling in politics. We need real accountability, without it these things will keep happening.

For her to promote regime change in the US was just bonkers. It's typical of this government. They had the world's worst diplomat as the nation's top diplomat, someone who understands nothing about agriculture in charge of Defra, someone who has no interest in maintaining law and order heading the Home Office, the world's least disciplined person to head the entire show when the nation was kept indoors by complex rules during the pandemic, and the list goes on. I love that there are 150 thousand police officers policing the protest. As there are only around 170 thousand in total in England and Wales that doesn't leave many doing theire normal job. I suspect 1500 isa more likely figure.

I think Liz Truss will be dumped by the electorate come the election. However Rishi should remove the whip from her if she is still there after the election she will campaign to remove him.

Not only did Liz Truss fail to contradict Steve Bannon when he referred to Tommy Robinson as a hero, she said "That is correct, that is correct" after he finished that question. How long is she going to survive this gaff? 🤔

The point with the protesting is people aren't happy with the government's position and are airing their views in a mostly non violent way. You dont let protests happen people will turn to more extreme measures and you get riots and terrorism which I think would probably be more of a strain on the police.

So Ms Truss, which candidates in Rochdale represented a "Radical Islamic Party", George Galloway or the MRLP? Rish! was less than forthcoming on the detail last night outside the door of Number 10. The thing is to be able to address any problem you have first to identify who or what the problem is.

It wasn't 45 thousand uncommitted voters in the Michigan Democratic primary, it was 101 thousand or 13% of the vote. This was over 10 times the hoped for target. It's clear that it's not just Arab American voters that are making a protest vote but many others too, including many Jewish Americans. This is even more likely to effect the Labour party in the UK as the strength of feeling is stronger and more broadly based. The result in Rochdale and Labour's massive opinion poll lead will only encourage more dissenting voters and alternative candidates.

@@annepoitrineau5650 won’t work either. That time has passed. If your protest is not in line with the direction of the majority of the heard, or if it inconveniences them, it will be ignored and if it cannot be ignored it will be crushed. The time of pluralism in democracy has ended, if you are a minority you will get no positive response.
