What upset me more than anything was Pettersson's commitment and effort. He looks like he's out for an easy casual skate. Flipping the puck into a corner then meandering around. No going hard to the net or into a scoring space. A couple of his bum checks was all the effort he could muster. The same as the end of last year, he just seems uninterested. 10 games to show he's worth the moneyed then jettison out of here.

I don't know why EP40 wears an "A" to be honest. Garland should be wearing it. Pettey is in his own head most of the time, and lately he looks kind of bored or disinterested. I'd rather have a bunch of JT Miller types for what they're paying him. He's certainly skilled, and he has the capability to be a game changer, but he just seems disinterested or timid. He doesn't come across as a leader, or an aggressive player, more like a quiet sniper. He's stopped making those skilled plays like he used to. If you look at Quinn, he skates rings around guys, but last year Pettey seemed to be falling down a lot, like he forgot how to skate. I just don't know what happened to his drive. He doesn't seem to have it and seems to be waiting for an easy shot to come to him. If he starts rolling his eyes and dropping his shoulders again each time he misses a shot, we're in big trouble. Someone needs to give the kid a pep talk, or a stern talking to. There must be some way to change his attitude.

Canucks stopped skating after taking that lead, it's a simple as that. They went back to their old habit of passing the puck around the net and Mantha burned them on the turnover. You can blame goaltending but what do you expect when let Calgary walk right in? Not good enough defensively. However its the very first game, and it's not surprising that they are rusty.

Pettersson and the goaltending are the two biggest concerns for the Canucks. Silovs couldn't stop a beachball in the first game and Pettersson looks like he's still in a fog. Lankinen was a good backup in Nashville last year, so he obviously should get the start, and if Elias doesn't start trying, Miller should rattle his cage. If I had a teammate making obscene money who didn't give a f&*$ I would be none to happy.
