@clinttube5 ай бұрын
Neither - get a V10 M6 w/ the factory 6-speed. I got mine a few months ago because I just couldn't believe you'd be able to get em with 35k-75k miles for $30,000-$45,000 much longer. Way rarer than either of these cars too - only 701 V10 M6 manuals total: 323 coupes 378 convertibles. The V8 M3 is a unicorn configuration among M3's. The stick V10 M5 or M6 is a unicorn configuration among automobiles, period. At least until you're dropping minimum 3x the $ for an R8 V10 manual or Viper. Gotta do the homework though on service history and buy >3/2007 builds to get major reliability updates and oil pan that drains easier. The coupe is only like 250 lbs. heavier than the E92. I know it's not the same of course and dynamically doesn't feel as tossable, but for similar $ the M6 is just a much nicer car than the M3 (better be considering it was $110k in 07). I'm totally a fan of all 3 though not hating - in most colors the M6 is probably the least aesthetically beautiful. Pick what you like best they're all sick cars.

It feels super car like. When the SMG hits from 4th to 5th, the slap is so hard and the speed is so high that you start to think you are in a time machine. The screaming V10 is better than music. I'm getting an E92 M3 this weekend!!! Been my achievable dream car for since I passed my driving test 10 years ago
This is a cool video. I was facing this dilemma a few years ago, I had my E92 DCT M3 for nearly 3 years at the time and I wanted to try the V10. So, I bought an LCI SMG E60 M5, no manual option for us in Europe, but my plan was always to address that. Initially I thought the M5 would replace the M3, as you say, they have similar dynamics on the face of it, certainly out of the box. I was slowly modifying the M3. So, I took the M5 across europe and down to the Nürburgring, it was brilliant but on track, with a decent suspension setup on the M3, it's much more nimble. I never liked the manual in the M3, I didn't like the clutch engagement, 1st is too short, third is too long, the gearbox just doesn't align, the DCT works very very well. I agree with you on the swapped V10, the gearing is less of an issue, this is due to how you'd use the car, and there's a lot more torque in the V10. In the end, I kept them both as they do different things. To fix the issues with the M3, I did the following: - Ohlins Road and Track - M Performance inconel exhaust, with a primary cat delete - Eventuri Plenum - Alcon BBK - Recaro Sportster CS with lowered rails To fix the M5 - Manual swap keeping the SMG diff - Autosolutions Short Shift kit, which completely resolves the shifter feel, and if you run ATF 1100 fluid, there's no notchy shifter. - Eventuri plenum to come - Eisenmann race to come On the E46, it needs the same mods as the E92 to feel right. On the E39 M5, I daily drove one for 3 years, the E60 manual swapped is better in every way, yes a bit heavier, but the seating position on the E39 M5, is worse than the E92, the brakes are terrible and the biggest issue, which no one talks about is the steering feel, the recirculating box is just always in the back of your mind.

Having own and still own M cars all FI'd out new and older, each M have their characteristics. For me the E39 M5 is the goat, this model that was famously dubbed as the wolf in sheeps clothing. Size, Power, looks is on point, just install 9.5 all around and slap some RA1's and ur good for the meantime lol! add a 3.45 diff and an ESS supercharger and skip the CAI or dinan S2 been there done that and nothing i mean nothing will come close to an ESS supercharged V8 now we're talking lol. BMW M division should drive the e39 M5 every time whenever they start designing a newer model for reference jmho. As for the e60 M5 i call the deep sea diver, gives me a different grin whenever i drive it, If u own one keep and maintain it because once everyone understands that the rod bearing issue was overly exaggerated by people not understanding what their talking about and will just need to read the manual to know how to properly maintain and drive the car, the price will go up exponentially starting next year. F10 is ok but loving the F90 over, imma skip on the new hybrid M5, anything electrical when it comes to any european car is so much more complicated as they age so imma have to pass on the next M5. As for the M3 i'd start on the e46 M3 great car e9x is good track car out of the box and for people complaining on the lower tq number its because when ur at the track ur basically on second third and 4th at a higher revs thats where u need the most attention on tq and rev match to maintain that power if i have to choose which E9x ill choose the E90 M3 not sure why but its solid specially at the track, The F82 M4 well balanced car i wish they kept the size of the e9x other than that no complaints on the engine and mods u can add is a breath of fresh air from previous models u dont have to spend a lot the downside if something happens on the engine it can be pricey. Haven't picked up a G82 M4 but have heard good things about them, thinking of the first gen M2.
