I was all-in with Lightroom/Photoshop until I learned that other applications did things better. I’m a heavy user of the Affinity Suite but have no idea what Canva will do to those applications. The only close alternative to Photoshop and Illustrator is Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. I've been a graphic artist and web designer for over 24 years and I still only use the same tools in Photoshop and Illustrator over and over; the rest is overkill. Affinity's Inpainting tool is superior to Adobe's Content Aware Fill. The only thing that's keeping me from dumping Photoshop right now is Generative Fill. If Affinity develops it's own Generative Fill type tool, then there won't be anything Photoshop can do better than Affinity Photo.
@raak2310 күн бұрын
@ I can certainly see Affinity being a serious contender. I’m in the high end printing business. One of the areas I still found Affinity lacking was color management. It’s also a matter of getting used to I guess. Like you I’ve been using Photoshop for 30 years now and grown accustomed to the tools. Also I don’t think there’s really a good replacement for InDesign yet, so I think I will be using Creative Cloud for the forseeable future. But I’m open to alternatives 🙂

@@davidmilisock5200 Affinity's object selection tools are far smarter and more flexible than Photoshop's object selection. Affinity's Inpainting tool is far better than Adobe's Content Aware Fill. Unless it's a super simple selection, then Content Aware is pretty clueless. If Affinity develops a tool like Generative Fill, then there will be very few reasons to use Photoshop anymore. By the way, I've been using Photoshop professionally for over 24 years. Affinity is getting close to removing Photoshop from its pedestal.

Unfortunately it's hard to ditch Adobe when most of the places I'm applying to as a graphic designer require experience/knowledge of adobe.
@andynonimuss629810 күн бұрын
Yep, I agree. I've been a graphic designer and web designer for over 24 years. I do think over time though, companies will examine the software licensing costs of Adobe vs Affinity and starting moving away from Adobe based on saving money. At the moment, Affinity Photo is very close to Photoshop with a nearly identical tool set. The moment Affinity develops a Generative Fill type tool, then that will be a pretty compelling reason for companies to reevaluate the high licensing costs of Adobe. I'm pretty bitter about Adobe's choke-hold of ever increasing subscription fees. With Dreamweaver and Adobe XD now abandoned by Adobe, and DaVinci Resolve/Fusion the better alternative to Premiere and After Effects, I'm finding it less and less likely I will stay with Adobe in the future.

I will be paying for them in the next month or so and I want to see how everything ends up working out. I don't even mind buying a new major release every 2-3 years. Funny thing I do enjoy using mid 2000s dslr for photography and have one of my Mac Pro running Mavericks for editing them on Aperture. Meanwhile Pixelmator Pro has been my editing software replacing Photoshop completely, Photomator is slowing becoming Lightroom editing for new cameras and professional settings. Still a long way to catch up but as it states is Aperture 3.7, not 4.0 yet. I just wish I can find something to replace AI and abandon Adobe. Affinity is almost there few more features.

I'll echo what many others have said - I'm definitely keen to consider something that doesn't require a monthly outlay. I get why companies love the subscription model, but once it starts, it'll do nothing but increase in price. Honestly, I'm surprised the Lr + Ps bundle has stayed where it is for as long as it has. That said, if my (admittedly non-professional) workflow can be accomplished with a buy-once application, I'm all for it.

I need to mention I’m not a photographer or a graphic designer, I used Photoshop for basic graphic stuff, layers, mask, etc… I never used script or whatever photoshop experts do. But that’s my point. If you’re like me, that needs to do some graphic design without being a graphic designer, then Pixelmator will be more than fine and you won’t have to deal with Adobe and their subscription. For music I use Logic Pro, for video editing I use DaVinci Resolve Studio, for office app I use Apple ones (numbers, page, keynote). In the past I used Protools for music (now subscription), Premiere for video (now subscription), Photoshop and illustrator for graphics (now subscription) and Microsoft Office (now subscription)… I literally removed all subscription and I’m not missing any of the applications I was using in the past. Actually, I love the apps I’m using now even better and I wouldn’t switch back even if they would remove their subscription.

I don't understand why people keep saying that Adobe for photography is expensive. I pay £10 a month for Lightroom and Photoshop which in my opinion are both still leagues above anything else, so the £60 per month subscription isn't needed as Premier Pro sucks. For video DaVinci Resolve is free, or Final Cut Pro is excellent. I would miss the Generative AI features massively as I use it a lot for my photography business. Anyway... Just my 2 cents 👍

Until there programs that do exactly what adobe does then it a no go for most professionals. Photographers can get away with just Lightroom in some cases. A graphic designer/ illustrator 3-5 of the packages and when you get to that point and when they all seamlessly talk to one another there is just nothing else like it. They should have been stoped from acquiring macromedia then you'd have options and bloody good options

Unless something has changed, Apple HAS NOT acquired Pixelmator/Photomator. Rather, Apple has signed a deal to do so pending regulatory approval. The deal is not closed the companies are two separate companies as of today, and, depending on regulatory hurdles, the deal may take a longtime to close or, potentially, never close. Once Apple closes the deal AND Photomator finishes their announced development projects (see their website), I will be “all-in” and Adobe will be gone. I am 85% all-in now. Of the actual market of people who would potentially be running something like Lightroom I suspect the data looks very different. I know my own companies marketing team runs Macs, and the digital teams of every church I’ve gone to has happened to have Macs either for everything or at least running the music and graphics and other media.
