This is actually our car and thanks to Sam and his team it gets the attention it needs. In more than 15 years it has virtually NEVER broken down, it served me for a year as a commuter car between Manchester and London, we used it to drive to France many times and I tend to get everything fixed before it becomes a problem. We recently had paint correction and sealing done with Barry at BK Autoglow in Hyde and it will go to Prestige for a wheel refurb next. It’s now the wife’s car and doesn’t get used that much anymore but we will keep it as long as possible. It’s a timeless classic with true Mercedes qualities ! Thank you #sprautos

If you've had a car for most if not all of its life and looked after it it's worth the money. Each new or used vehicle is a venture into unknown territory even with service history. Sometimes it's worth staying with what you know. Don't bother about the video being highly polished... It's a working garage and the video reflects what goes on in the real world.. Keep em coming.. 💯🎯👌🏻

I’ve a 2004 e class with 292,000 miles, it does have the OM648 however, old technology yes, more reliable probably. Old banger for sure, but starts first flick of the key, runs fine and brakes without issue. No DPF, no ad-blue, so a level down on complexity, but can get 50 to the gallon on a run.

Love your fume containment, pure consideration for others! Is it worth it? Affordable? Always down to the person who has to put hand in pockets. Some people struggle to even find £1 let alone £2K. Personally on a car of this quality spending to keep it on the road is worth it, better for the environment than scraping and gives you work for a video. I always say, if structural rust is a failure then consider scraping as the vehicle strength and safety is failing. A bit like myself in older age, when certain parts fail I’ll consider a bullet, but I replaced my knees when they failed ten years ago! Great work and great video glad you back smiling after the flood.

Great vid. I do have a request if possible. Could you possibly do a few vids showing your diagnostic procedure fully? You don’t have to of course but it’d really help me out in my apprenticeship. My place doesn’t really give me a chance to do diag because they already know what’s wrong with it because I’m at a dealership. So seeing different approaches will help refresh/teach me new things. Great looking car that, in my view, is definitely worth keeping on the road. The bill might seem high (given the value of the car), but such repairs won't be needed every year, so the cost amortises over time and will compare very favourably to a new purchase.

Wise choice to keep the car and spend the money on what was needed. Stop comparing the mileage, the owner has maintained it well, engine is in find condition no issues with gearbox. Under body I see was free from rust anywhere. I am a obsessive cleaner of the underside of my car as much as on the outside and this car is fine and has the same treatment. The car is an 07 plate coming up to nineteen year old so what, keep the car. And another thing to consider, if you bought something a lot younger you would be losing each year in depreciation a lot more than the cost of this service. Its a no brainer as far as I am concerned its a case of you keep the devil you know changing to another care means nothing for its reliability and you could be buying yourself a whole heap of trouble. Great video by the way, love your channel.

Great video, don’t worry a working garage is what I guess what most are here for !!! Completely worth it if the sensible owner is happy and as you say the car is in excellent condition, U.K. motorists so hung up on mileage, the engine will do 300K plus, why taxi drivers love them, suspension parts another 100K, and what you buy for £2700, that offers this level of refinements and luxury driving, thanks for posting this.

I’ve got one of these. In a couple of weeks, it’ll have 170k on the clock. Always dealership maintained, and I’ve kept strictly to the servicing schedule. I’ve had one big bill, where brake line, discs / pads and a few oil leaks had to be done as well as a full service, but I think it was worth it, at least to me. Only failed an MOT once (suspension), but otherwise sailed through every time. If I ever get an advisory, I get it done.

I drive a w211 E420 V8 diesel in Netherlands. But drive 90% German autobahn due to my job. Lots of high speed autobahn blasting. I put a ton of money in the car but it is worth it. The OM642 and OM629 are very durable engines. Injectors are maintenance parts, they just wear. My first set did 400.000 kilometers and I recently replaced them with new ones. Now done 437.000 km and the car is just phenomenal. Absolute torque monster, 850 Nm. It is not a E55, but it is the E55 that you wanna daily drive without crying about the fuel costs. Whatever platform you have, just maintain it. It is worth the money of knowing what you have. rather then starting all over again with someone's other old garbage and needing to 'double do' it.

Hi Sam, Bryan here. I think its money well spent and although I havent had a diesel I owned a 2004 E320 in Australia as the third owner and sold it at 477,000 kms (296,000 miles). I drove it across Australia to go and do work post Covid so my trips were 3,500 kms to 4300kms each time. There is nothing better than being able to comfortably drive 1400 kms per day without a worry... I changed the same front suspension members as you did at 430,000 kms and they ride was so much better. My only mechanical failure was a Bosch air conditioning pump. The rocker covers leaked a little bit however we left them alone . Changed jobs, sold the car and now peddling an E350 4 matic . Cheers, great channel, keep it up

The various problems that you face make for very interesting content, interuptions, delay in parts delivery etc. ,so it`s much more than just OK.I also think the car was worth saving, because if that one was traded you`ld never find a simular Merc for the cost of those repairs and it may well need work on it aswell, whereas the customer has at least another 12 months MOT on that one Thanks for posting.

Well worth it, that’s just a baby at 180k miles. I used to regularly travel in a W211 E270 taxi in Italy which had around 400,000 km on the clock or 250k miles and was always driven flat out on the autostrada so about 230kmh or 140 mph. We always got to the hotel before the bar closed!

These videos are the highlight of my week! Work on merc vans all day but still get excited by the job. So much so I’ve recently bought myself a c207 e350, the MPG isn’t as good as others have stated though averaging 20/25mpg 😅 any common problems that would cause high fuel consumption? Love the channel and videos!

And much better than any new car that is constantly beeping at you for stupid reasons! You opened the door with engine running - YES I KNOW. You exceed the speed limit by 2km/h - yes I KNOW

Yes. It is always worth fixing it. If the car is already paid off, even if you need to fix something big, it still won't be as much as an equivalent new car's monthly repayments. In addition, these cars are still modern enough to be used daily, safer than some new cars still and built like a tank. It has modern features that does not make it feel old. They also don't make cars like they used to. Take the cost of the repair over 12 months and it is most likely still less than a new E Class monthly repayment. And the big items you fix is not every year. Once done, it'll go another 20 years so it is worth it even if the car itself has no more value. The value of the car to you is so much more than the monetary value they will attach to it. I have a 2014 W212 E350 Bluetec and a 2004 W203 C220 cdi. Last year, the 203 needed some big repairs that were costly. However, it is things that needed to be replaced after 20 years on the road. The cost divided by 12 months can not even purchase a city car like a Hyundai i10 let alone a new C Class. And obviously the 203 is safer, drives nicer and feels nicer than an i10 and actually has some features an i10 would not have. A new C Class is built like plastic bags and rattle off the showroom floor with it light, cheap brittle interior material and shoddy build quality. So yes, it is definitely absolutely 10000% worth it to spend money on an old Merc like this and keep it running.

Definitely worth doing if the rest of the vehicle is fine... The owner knows his vehicle - if scrapped he has to go looking for something else that could have unknown issues...

I liked this video a lot. I have a 2013 ML 350 with the OM 642. It's done 338,000 km, or about 210,000 miles. I just had the pre-safe module fail, and there were faults in the Canbus networks for both front and rear driver assist modules. Corrosion in the connectors is the culprit. I was faced with replacing the front and rear wiring harnesses for these modules, plus a pre-safe module at a minimum. So, a bit reluctantly I traded it for a 2023 GLE 53 All Money Gone with 16000 km. I take delivery next week, and I do like the new one. But, I almost gave the go ahead to repair the older one. I am hoping, given its perfect service history, that someone fixes it, as it's in lovely shape inside and out, particularly for a car from the Canadian rust belt. Actually, I'm surprised at the amount of corrosion I see on the cars you service. Love your channel. I watch every video, and I'm looking forward to joining you as an AMG owner.

Another well documented video of keeping a luxury car on the road. The owner obviously enjoys driving the car and considered it well worth spending the £2,700 on it. If you drive an older German luxury car (mine's a 2007 Audi A6 Avant S Line Quattro Automatic), you've got to expect some larger than normal bills every now and then.

I had a 2002 C class 220cdi which was given me with 120k on it, engine run pretty well, gearbox didn’t kick down all the time so had to go to manual and the bodywork was pretty rough, I’d have loved to have kept is as the initial zero price tag but I felt I’d always be chasing the repairs. Sometimes you have to know “not to” before you start, I got 6 months out of it and the guy I sold it to managed to get a new mot on it so she’s still going..👍

A week wait for an injector isnt so bad. My CLS 350 has been at Mercedes for 4 months waiting for a DPF that they needed to replace as they couldn't get the NOX sensors out for the service measure. Thankfully they have given me a new loan car for the duration of the time its on back order. Back orders seem to be taking an eternity for some parts! Great video as always.

I owned two 211's, one was a 320cdi, the other an E55 amg. I currently drive a C218 (2015 CLS), and I stand by the fact that the 211 was a much better built and equipped car than the generation which followed it.

Great video as usual mate The main reason discs warp is that I was told when I did an advanced driving course if you do a series of heavy braking till stopped do not keep foot on brake pedal, apparently your not allowing the disc to cool evenly and the discs warp I have had discs warp and after this advice I no longer get warped discs Don’t know if it’s true but it’s seems to work for me

Im rebuilding my w211 right now , 180000 km , im done with the engine ill keep on going until i finish all systems , i have owned this car since 11 years , and i was not ready to give it up , and since i do the work my self it will cost me around 6000 $ to completely rebuild everything to an oem standard , might sound crazy to some people but to me it makes sense to hang on to my dear car . M272 engines are known to last for high mileage.
