So I pre ordered one of these in March and have set it up today. I had some issues with the first one shipped out to me but Oase have been amazing from a customer service perspective. Someone came today with a replacement and helped set it up with no problems. No issues with setting up or using the app to connect. So far so good. Planning on keeping a couple of dart frogs and maybe a peacock day gecko so I’m hoping this is ok. Thanks for the heads up re: the UV light - didn’t consider a gecko hanging upside down from the lighting! Will think of some sort of protection if I go down the gecko route. Thanks for the review!!!

I do love the idea of not having to buy separate heating pad(s), a thermostat controller for the heater, a mister for maintaining humidity, etc. and am surprised there haven't been more tanks like this with it all built in, but yeah like you said I think the bottom heating rules out burrowing critters, and I'm not sure how much I'd trust the other features (or app) to work as expected...

Yeah I don't quite understand why you'd heat the tank from the bottom. As I said in the video, I was really hoping I could turn that section off.

Nice unboxing video. I'd love to see the setup and build out of it. I agree, it is not a good fit for a LEO but it looks interesting for frogs. However, the light issue would be a huge concern so I hope the company considers changing it out.

Hi Leopard Gecko! I was looking back at your insect, isopod and beetle videos and was wondering if you've tried silkworms? They have just the cutest little faces and I've really enjoyed having them company just on my desk. Once the turn into moths they just because even more adorable! Get them! ;)
@leopardgeckotalk2 жыл бұрын
They're kind of hard to find over here, and usually quite expensive. I also heard they have a very particular diet, so after all of that I'd feel kind of bad feeding them to my geckos lol
@phelan_pt2 жыл бұрын
The food itself is not a big deal, you can buy it in a powder and mix as needed. But silkworms are very particular about their conditions, in my experience. they need to be kept in a very clean environment, cleaned frequently, and any ill/dead ones removed immediately. It's a huge hassle to work around the silk strands they put down around the enclosure when you're trying to clean. You'd need something designed specifically, probably in a vertical setting with a mesh, so that their poop falls down to an area they can't reach, and that it doesn't touch the food. Combined with the price, I don't think they're very worth it as feeders. However, they are very cute to watch, so might be worth it as pets.

My honest opinion about this tank: not worth its money at all. I don't care about all these features it has if they are all (or almost all) poorly executed: - If I have an expensive, compact tank I am expecting to be able to open it frontal and on the top (some people like putting their enclosures into shelves with only front access) - I dont want to talk about the UV bulb's choice in there. I dont care that it is dimmable if it is a danger for the animal - using their brand of water for the fog? Seriously? No thank you - having no different temperature zones in that enclosure is a big red flag for me. All animals rely on that... even inverts For me this is no tank for an animal. For me it is a waste of money (we are talking about 1500 dollars or so). With that money I can buy/build a few tanks, which are even bigger and have the needed (or all) components for the animal. It just wont look as compact as this one but you can still hide them (the components like cable of the light bulbs etc.) and let your tank look 'clean' in appearance.
@leopardgeckotalk2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think I am just going to put plants in here, UV off, heating off, and just hope the growth lights work.
@dndmat Жыл бұрын
I love it and may buy one but I have all the pieces to make my own for a fraction of the cost. Of course it will not look as good and be as compact but I'll do that first. This would naturally look great in a living area.

Huge oversight on not being able to control a warm and cool side! Every reptile and amphibian, to my knowledge, requires a gradient.

Even invertebrates like ants or spiders do better with a gradient, it lets the animal adjust their temperature better. Seems like an obvious thing, I'm surprised they didn't think of that if they do aquariums.

I agree this definately is more like a prototype than an actual reliable build. I wouldn't want to buy this product for numerous reasons and a bunch of those were ones which you already listed. Also, I don't like the fact that it doesn't have doors opening from he front. It's so large it would seem hard to get the animal out of it if you needed to. Plus I agree with the app and the lights. Not very ideal. Cool product design, but just for prototype purposes. I love seeing your opinion on this product. Very well put together. I can't wait to see what you have to do with it.

@rhyspieces70992 жыл бұрын
I feel like this would be nice for tree frogs with some modifications. I like the idea of everything being all-in-one instead of buying everything separately, however not being able to easily access the tank does present many issues. A cheaper price tag and some better design and this kind of tank would probably make a killing. It’s disappointing that it does have these issues when Oase do make some amazing products especially for aquariums.

It's a great ideah but poor execution. I'm concerned about the animals health if you where to put one In there. The tank is small but high so I thought you could but an cresti or frog but the UVI is so high and the fact that there is no heat gradient is iffy. Seriously though, I don't want "all in one", I don't want dependence on App/ Bluetooth/WiFi, It's more fun gathering the needed housing and environmental control items individually. At the very least it needs temperature gradient capabilities I hope this company is in the preliminary market research phase and not actually mass producing these yet because they should think again.

The comments made on the UV index is absurd if you want a index of 1-2 to reach say the bottom with respect to a 3 inch substrate height then its only natural that the UV index directly below the lamp would be absurdly high. There is nothing that can be do to solve this. Same can be said about PAR for aquariums at the lamp it would be obviously higher then the plants could handle but with how light waves works the farther away from the source of light the lower the par and light penetrating water as well play a role. There is no design they could have gone with to fix this issue unless you wanted a glass top and mounted the UV lamp the appropriate distance so the index is now 1-2 at the top rather then the bottom. Lastly this is priced considerable low considering the manufacturing process and parts to make such a product. I think most people have no idea how product development and production works and based their opinions on how much similar products cost when not all inclusive in one product. I do agree that it feels like its still in the prototype phase which is a good thing for me. People will complain if something is built in china or built with cheap parts yet all in the same breath will say a product costs to much. I believe owning pets is a luxury and not everyone should own pets if they can't afford life support systems for their animals. I love my animals and want nothing but the best lifestyle I can provide for them with the available technology. I understand this type of product isn't for everyone but I see all too often the people that surrender or re home pets the most are the ones that can't afford basic supplies for their pets and are constantly on a hunt for how to keep their pets on a cheap. The future is automatic enclosure for all our pets. We can't attend to our pets 24/7 and its only natural to create products that can keep are pets safe and happy while we are at work or enjoying other aspects of our lives. I find it funny that people complain about the product and say its lacking features yet if a product existed that could provided high quality terrarium with every bell and whistle it would cost between $3,000-$4,000.

I don't think their reply was worth the hassle and delay to you... I think in the future, might be good to set a policy that if they haven't gotten back to you a certain time before you post the video, it gets uploaded as is. Leave yourself time to edit it and upload it as you normally do. You can always upload a short video after their response later. As it is, the tank seems both too expensive, and not well thought out enough. However, if they change the heat zones to be activated independently, and divide the zones into two to allow for gradient, among other things you already mentioned, it might become a good terrarium. Especially for people who prefer to get the whole kit at once, and don't mind paying more for that.

Second big no: it runs via an app. There MUST be an override/select to manual, right? Apps always fail at some point. And third: it's acrylic. For that price, should be glass. Sorry, I'll pass. Proprietary water? Nah. The included fogger is cool though. Not being front opening is unacceptable at this cost. As a proof of concept this tank is cool. However, the functionality shouldn't suffer in order to just jam technology everywhere. I think a pacman frog would like the tank.
