Very accurate review. I hardly made it through the first half but once I got past it, I couldn’t put it down.

I just started this yesterday and I loved your review! I'm actually really enjoying the first half so far. I feel like everyone has done things that they regret and made mistakes and I'm here to see how Queenie progresses through all of that!

Yay! Gad you're enjoying it. If you like the first half I think you'll really love the second half.

I agree that she should've left her workplace because they didn't take her sexual harassment seriously. the reviews I've seen so far have been really mixed, so I'm glad to see one that leans towards the positive! ☺️

Welcome back! Thanks for the great review. I wasn't sure if I was going to read this anytime soon but you convince me otherwise. It sounds pretty interesting although I have been hearing mixed reviews on it you just bumped it up a few spaces on my TBR!

Thanks for a fair, realistic viewpoint and I agree that it probably was a marketing gimmick to compare it to BJD. I have been on the fence on this book but I will probably add this to my read if I get bored list instead of my TBR. How was Italy and yes, I personally want to know about your books and trip. BTW loving your hair in this video.

I just recently read this book as well and I honed in on the mental health representation, but I like that you brought up the fact that her size and body type played a huge roll in how she was treated and what she internalized. She was definitely fetishized by the men she was "dating" and although she knew that, the fact that she refused to date black men spoke volumes about her mental state. Thank you for that perspective. Also, I almost didn't read this book because it was compared to a cross between Bridget Jones Diary and Americanah... why would they do that? Such a disservice to this work 😩.

The moment when you’re like, hook more of the whiter audience, FACTS. This book is so much more than a Rom-Com book. Queenie is so much more than a modern Bridget. I love the writing, the honesty and the heart of this book. I think it’s really brave to show how so much of Queenie’s pain is amplified by the weight of dealing with micro aggressions and other social barriers. Even the nod that if she didn’t have access to free services she’s never have been able to work on her mental health. I love that she took Janet to task over what was kind of like a privilege situation without naming it? I think the writing is so smart to weave cultural impacts on to issues and struggles we all can relate to on some level! Love your review. V honest and to the point. X
