It serves only half its purpose :D I won't feel comfortable attaching that hook to the sound hole like that. Is this the only strap option for ukuleles without the strap button?

I think we both shared a good laugh. I have a similar strap, used it once then never bothered with it again. I may if I'm in a silly mood try the alternative way of using it, but then again perhaps not. Ken

Did you ever try the alternative way of using it?!
@ken-vc8bf7 жыл бұрын
Bernadette Teaches Music .I did try it but either the strap is too short or I am too wide. I think it must be the former. This video still makes me laugh - a good tonic on a cold, grey day. Ken

The other strap may be longer to have it over the shoulder. Mine is too long so I will have to cut and sew it. My wrists are weak from many years of typing so a strap may be helpful until I can build a little strength in them.
@BernadetteTeachesMusic7 жыл бұрын
hey! How are you doing? Did you start using the strap while you practice?
@lilbitatatime37637 жыл бұрын
I used the strap once and didn't like it. Suppose I have to get accustom to wearing it. Now that my finger is better and we processed our chickens I can get back to practicing the ukulele in between baking pies, attending my DS's concert choir and getting prepped for Thanksgiving. Are you & Jose cooking a turkey?

You have excellent form! I just got a Tenor Ukulele today, but I didn't know you could get Baritone Uke's, anyway, the uke came with strap buttons fitted to the body, but the strap was like the one you used 1st, for the price I paid £46.99 I expected something better for a strap, how could you relax while playing, all the time conscious of the fact the Uke could fall if you let go. I think I will make a strap, like a guitar strap, or even a piece of string. I learned "You Are My Sunshine", and oddly it inspired me to play some blues on the uke! Hurrah for 4 stringed instruments!!!

Thank you so much for this video! I enjoy this and your other videos very much. I bought a BEAUTIFUL Breedlove Uke but I am a bit disappointed that it didn't have strap buttons. Not a single one! I am so tempted to drill holes for buttons but I would cringe the whole time I'm doing it. I wish there were more options than just that one that hooks into the bottom of the sound hole. I don't have a strap yet but I'm wondering if the ones you suggested could be hooked into the top of the hole, instead of the bottom? It seems like it would balance that way so you could let go of it. Am I wrong about this? When I first started shopping for straps I actually thought this was how they hooked on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Gary from Alaska

3:44 was hilarious! Anyway my first strap, bought before finding your DIY uke strap video, was like this, and I didn't like it at all. zero support on the neck

Well, I see pros like James Hill, Ukulele Zen (Stuart Fuchs) and Jake Shimabukuro wearing straps. So if we're aspiring to play more difficult pieces then why wouldn't we use them indefinitely?
@lilichen64887 жыл бұрын
Love your videos! I really want an strap button installed in my ukulele but I don't know if it is worth it. I reckon it shouldn't make cracks on the wood is it is well drilled, but doesn't it destroys the wood after using it for a period of time? I mean, the strap pushes the button against the hole in order to hold it.... doesn't the hole gets bigger with the time? If anyone is familiar with them, please tell me... I know it would make it a lot more comfortable to play but I don't want to destroy my new ukulele!
@BernadetteTeachesMusic7 жыл бұрын
Hey! I know the feeling!! I didn't want to make holes in my ukuleles because I don't know if I will change my mind about them in the long run BUT I did make a video for how to add strap buttons to your ukulele for under $5 (and NO DRILLING!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hILQn4lugNV3osU
@cmmbsnyder556 жыл бұрын
Ms B, your beautiful - no question on that, you're entertaining and most importantly you're very informative. I finally got my new tenor today and it has no buttons and I'm frightfully afraid of having some music store tech drill on it. The hook strap scares me! Terry said he will have some straps coming soon to his store so maybe I'll wait and see what becomes available. At this point, I'm not sure what to do. I feel the hook in the sound hole will over time leave usage marks -- not acceptable! Anyway, I will continue to monitor your other videos.

I've never liked this kind of straps, but my uke doesn't have a strap thing at the end. I'm ok with making a hole and putting the strap buttom but I don't know if it's worthy, what do you think?

Hey Plazi! I would like to mention 2 things. Most straps serves it's complete purpose, but on the other hand these serve less than quarter. It is actually insensible to attach the hook to the sound hole as, it will reduce the sound quality and look really weird hanging off of the ukulele. It is also not secure and can lead to a broken ukulele. It is hilariously funny seeing people wearing these tiny straps! I would recommend to buy a strap that you tie to your ukulele's tuning board and should get in a music shop! 2nd, can you make a video on capos? I have a couple for my guitar and started using for my uke a few weeks back. Is there a certain capo for each instrument?

Hey! I recently got 2 capos in a PR package, so I will think of a clever way to make a capo video ;)
