i’ve been using italki since july and i’ve noticed a HUGE difference in my speaking confidence. i have two tutors who i meet with once a week and they’re both super lovely. it can get kind of pricey, but it’s well worth it. it’s money i would have spent on video games or takeout food, which i’m trying to do less 😅

Exactly! I’ve been learning Japanese on it for about 3 months now and its really good. Way better than any language app that I had in the past because I’m actually retaining what I learn. I think that actually having a teacher is the best way to learn. Because you get one on one interaction.

That is so great. The momentary gratification of video games or takeout food cannot compare with the long-term blessings of linguistic competence. You will feel more useful, smart, cool, respected, and impactful as you realize you are part of something bigger than yourself. It gives life a lot more meaning than cheap pleasures ever can. (I am preaching to myself too, haha! I need to remind myself.)
i’ve been thinking about getting a tutor to help with my japanese classes for a while, and i guess this is a great push to look into that haha i also love getting new notifications from you! :) good luck on your masters!! 💞

This video was so useful! I've been teaching myself Japanese for just over a year, and speaking is *by far* my weakest skill. I think I just need to bite the bullet and start searching for a tutor - italki looks like a great way to go about doing so. I hope your Master's degree is going well!

Cute!! Kaho-sensei was a great choice it seemed :) I have the same problem as you did, living in a some what rural town, that not many Japanese people live here! I should really try this for myself sometime!

It was a great video to watch because I'm myself thinking about getting a Japanese tutor or teacher on italki!
Kaho sounds like a great teacher. I hope she gets some lessons from this. Its interesting she said you're kansai poi, I love kansai ben. I lived in Hyogo ken so what little japanese I have is very country. Its so fun!
This video was so helpful! I just heard about italki after studying Japanese on my own for about 2 years and will definitely check it out. Thanks for putting this together!

I use iTalki for French and Spanish. I like it a lot.
italki is really one of the best method to help you with learning languages... I'm learning Spanish and Japanese at the same time.. I have a few good teachers from there. I mean professional teacher not community teacher.. because I am just a beginner in both languages.

Wow, I just watched your very first video after watching this one, but the comments were off, so I came back here again. I didn’t realize you were English. I heard no hint of it in your Japanese the first time around. And you’ve been speaking it for over 10 years already. Awesome. Anyway, back to learning more about iTalki I go...
めちゃくちゃ上手いですよ I study English, but I cannot speak like you do Japanese

I'm very early in my Japanese studying but I've been focusing on Kanji comprehension - I've been using Wanikani and it's been a really useful tool to me. I recommend it if you're trying to memorize Kanji.

Awesome video! Your Japanese is amazing! What are your best tips for mastery besides italki? I'm more of an intermediate level!

Maravilloso video que fué, se le agradese, no entendí nada de su japones porque el mío es aún muuuuuy limitado pero me da gusto ver que no se requiere hablar rápido para ser entendido, me suscribo :)
You may want to get the English textbooks from Level 3 to Level 1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at a bookstore. (日本語検定試験3級から1級までの英語版テキスト) Good luck !🍰

うわー 日本語上手ですね!画像を見なかったら、日本人だと思いますよ〜 I don't think just because I've been living in LA most of my life.
I highly recommend you send a sample of your speaking to Dogen (his YT channel name) particularly for some pitch accent advice as learners with Kansai influence often have more informal style in their speech, The tutor's advice is very sound--writing the Kanji is key to remembering it. Also, you have every reason to be confident in your speech, even if you make mistakes. You have accomplished a lot and you should cherish the success you have achieved thus far. Build on your accomplishments and map out what it takes to get to the next level you want to reach!
Hey, I just wanted to comment as I was in a similar slump to you with kanji a while back and am now really enjoying studying it. I expect you're a higher level than me with reading, but I think this advice may still help. I paid for the Kanji Study app which cost me around 8 euro and it's been great as I can not only practise writing, but send new kanji and sentences to Anki for revision. Then I started reading a Japanese novel with an English translation to read after so I could check my comprehension. It's super short cut into passages about two pages long, so I can read a section a day and it only takes 30 mins. I'm really enjoying it and look forward to reading. It's like solving a puzzle. So yeah, find something fun to read. I also should be writing a diary, but can't find the motivation yet!
