A 'trad' is someone upholds traditional customs and values. Nowadays, simple conservatism is often considered akin to traditionalism, which is a flawed notion. The internet 'trad' community is filled with casteist people who may be active as moles of the Congress Party, as i have observed them closely. (I am myself mistaken as a trad by some "raytas" 😂) J Sai Deepak is certainly not an internet trad, as he is willing to praise worthy individuals, regardless of caste. Trads, on the other hand, often seek flaws in people of other castes in an attempt to cancel them, while they remain highly biased towards their own community, even if that is extremely Hinduphobic.

This is bang on. I told this on twitter when they (AIM, Kushal, Nikhil Mehra vs JSD) were about to debate publically hosted by Anand Ranganathan. And I was abused by all of their fanbois and had to delete the tweet. This is currently an ego match between them sadly. They are not looking at the argument. They are looking at who is making them. I agree with you that there is no disagreement between them on the diagnosis of the caste discrimination problem. The difference is in the prognosis and prescription. Abhijit, and more so, Kushal are from the Sarvakarite school of thought which says that eliminating caste is the way to end caste-based discrimination. JSD believes this is akin to throwing the baby out with the bathwater. JSD and Ankit Shah are similar on this front I believe. They believe that eliminating caste identities will create a blank slate for Abrahamic faiths to exploit and convert us. I don't know much about Ashish Dhar, but his defense of the Shankaracharya when he expressed displeasure about Modi touching the idol sounded very casteist to me.

Shankaracharya did not oppose Modi touching idol because of Modi's caste. He had two main objections. Firstly, Modi maybe born in a jaati, that was considered shudra earlier. But after getting political power, he is effectively kshatriya. In some temple customs, no one except the priest can touch the idol. Even another brahman not associated with the temple, can't touch. The Shankaracharya's biggest objection was on secularism. These Shankaracharyas belong to age of theocracy, when kings used to listen to them as Rajguru. Today's Indian govt is not a theocracy. So, Shankaracharya objected to head of a secular govt, presiding over a religious ceremony. According to them, only a theocratic monarch who has had a Hindu coronation, is eligible. Remember, Chatrapati Shivaji was originally considered shudra, but he was certified as kshatriya, before his coronation. Because ruling the kingdom is a kshatriya's job, and one has to be first given a kshatriya varna, in order to ascend the throne. I use jaati and varna separately. People confuse the two. Jaati is the community in which you are born. Varna is the status of the jaati, which determines privileges and restrictions. And I would like to say that, the Puri Shankaracharya is casteist as a person because he believes in rigid hierarchy. But other Shankaracharyas are not like that. Sringeri Shankaracharya named Vidyaranya, taught two tribals Harihara and Bukka, to found the Vijayanagar Empire. And Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, carried out reforms to train Dalit priest. This Puri Shankaracharya is from Bihar, and 80 years old, and therefore, following 80-year old casteist mentality. I hope next Puri Shankaracharya is progressive.

JSD is tainted by his association with Dhar, I feel. Dhar is definitely casteist. JSD is not casteist in a discriminatory sense, but he probably holds on to too many illiberal aspects of it. I am not for forcible annihaltion of jaati as culture / marriage groups, but I do think people who seek to preserve them also, especially against things like exogamy, are wrong and gross. Personal preference for marriage for example, is very different from lamenting other people not making the same choices.

Jaati and varna are independent things, that people are very confused about. They mistakenly equate the two. Jaati is like tribe or community to which a person belongs. Varna is status of a jaati. Based on hereditary job and aptitude, varna was assigned to jaati during feudal agriculture, pre-democratic era. Historically, the varna status of jaatis have moved up and down. Typically, kshatriya and shudras have exchanged varna the most, since, both have muscle power. If some shudra became king, then they claimed kshatriya status. And if a kshatriya lost a war, they gradually became shudra. Sometimes, kshatriya like Aggarwals have become vaishya. And vaishyas like Hemachandra became kshatriya like generals fighting against Akbar. There have been shudra kings like Suheldev also. The only jaati, whose varna remained constant were brahman. Hence, name of jaati and varna is coincidental for brahmin. After brahmin, Vaishyas were most stable. It's like bureaucrat ansd businessman are least affected by recessions (aka famine in agri economy) and wars. And society, expected brahmin to be an impartial and independent arbitrator of other people's varna and social disputes. In the absence of such an independent group, every jaati would have been fighting with each other for imposing status. Hence, presence of brahmin was a stabilizing force in the feudal age. Today, this arbitration job of brahmin is performed by Courts, Election Commission etc. Just like today, we obey the decision of these institutions w.r.t to who won elections, we used to obey the brahmana in the past, on who can claim to be king etc. Now, this role has been democratized through reservations, because people of all jaati can join these institutions. Even law-making was the role of brahmin. But today, lawmakers in Parliament, are from all jaatis. So, role of brahman today, has been reduced to just temple priests, and people think brahmin were only that and religion is some brainwashing story. But in reality today's brahmin are a shadow of their former power in society, and played an essential role. And people who have got the privilege of brahmin's powers, still want to be treated as victims and not acting responsibly. And since, brahmin had so much power, there needed to be mechanisms to keep check on that also. This check is done by restricting brahmin from making money like vaishya, and restricting them from eating strength-building non-veg food, like kshatriya. I think problems increased when brahmin violated the rules on money and meat. Heck, not all brahmin want to lead such austere lives, and they want to enjoy less restrictions like other varnas. Now, for this, we should have had flexible system, were a brahman should have been allowed to relinquish his varna, and have someone else, take his place. Sadly, this didn't happen. Basically, whenever the powers of 2 varnas get mixed, it causes corruption. If a kshatriya gets law-making authority of brahman, then it will cause fascism and affect rule of law. If vaishya get powers of kshatriya or brahman, then you get military-industry complex or crony capitalism. When shudras get power of brahman, then it leads to socialism or communism, and we know that, it is good in theory, but not in practice. There is only clamor for rights and not for duties. Thus, anyone should be only one varna at a time, and follow rules of that only. We have achieved flexible varna in democratic times, but people are not acting responsibly.

First of all there is no such thing as caste. Secondly we have jati, Varna, and kula system. Remember that black and white are not the only colours likewise, in our system the importance is given to prarabdha as well one who is born in neech kula but still shows the brilliance of Gyan he shall be taken and be given education in shastras. A Brahmins primary responsibility is to identify the individual before taking him/her as a student. But in general some of the knowledge is for all like karm, Dharma, prarabdha, their respective Varna, kula Dharma and so on.

You are wrong regarding this perception of yours. There is casteism in literally every Dharmashastras be it of Manu, yagyavalkya, Parashar, etc. even in other scriptures itself such as Brahma Sutra, Apastamba samhita, Purāṇas, etc.
