I’m a jeweler. Pave rings & halo style rings will constantly drop diamonds. This is the most popular style right now, but it’s also my most common repair I do in my shop. Additionally, rose gold is quite soft compared to white gold. Ideally the prongs on your ring would be white gold, with the shank & basket done in the rose gold. I see that the side diamonds are held in rose gold prongs...not the best idea, but it can be helped a bit with some tip work. You should be able to request James Allen to tip (add gold to) the prongs down the sides to add a bit more meat to them & make them stronger. The same may need to be done to the halo, as that’s the first spot to take a knock in a day to day situation. Hope this helps, your ring is very pretty!

Jessie Ngo I would. I just maybe would consider a different style. Sounds like it's an issue with all Rose gold jewelry like mine. Not just a James Allen issue.

I take my ring off to clean, cook, chop food, do dishes, shower, anything. But if I chose not to, I should be able to do that. I just think the setting should hold better than it is.

I own a jewellery store in South Africa and don’t know James Allen jewellers at all. All jewellers all over the world have this problem - you can supply a customer with a perfect ring, every stone skillfully set and quality checked. Some customers will wear a ring for a lifetime, and no stone will get lost. Other customers will lose diamonds - and it is usually multiple times. The problem is that customers that drop stones frequently believe that they wear their ring in a ‘normal’ way. I also know that all reputable jewellers don’t want unhappy customers, so they will go out of their way to ensure that they have happy customers. Jewellers can control the quality of their product, but they cannot control the way their customers wear a ring. I guess that Tara will get a new ring - and lose another diamond.

It's because it's rose gold. The metal is softer than traditional white and yellow gold due to the process of getting the rose color. My wife is a fan of rose gold and weather it's a necklace, ring or earrings they are very brittle and soft.

A lot of rings are like expensive sports cars...they spend their lives in the shop being maintained. My mother had a large diamond set in a tiara type platinum ring. The ring had a lot of smaller diamonds in the band and design. Diamonds were always falling out..and needing replaced...the platinum band was custom designed and was anything but a budget ring. Moral of story: On an engagement ring, you can't go wrong with a 14 karat YELLOW gold or platinum ring...I would go with 6 prongs for a larger diamond...or a semi-bezel set. You want a ring that will last a lifetime and something that you can pass down through your family. You can't do that with faddish, trendy jewelry that isn't made to endure the tests of time...Also, in most cases, the cost of jewelry repair is outrageous...even the fast fix places in the kiosks at the mall. Think...investment...what does a ring cost over the course of your lifetime...!
@usfanlovesminho50853 жыл бұрын
White gold is stronger than yellow gold which is why most yellow gold settings have white gold prongs to mount the main diamond. I would never get a ring mounted in yellow gold. I agree with you on the six prongs though.

Same thing happened with my James Allen petite crown pave ring. I had it for 3 days when one of the diamonds from the band fell out. We went with platinum to help avoid issues such as this as well as avoid maintenance. Unfortunately it didn't matter. I've had it back for about 2 weeks and so far no issues.

Platinum is even softer than gold, definitely go for 14k white gold if you want stronger prongs to keep the diamonds in place :)

This can happen to any ring from any jeweler so I do not think it is a James Allen issue. If you research James Allen and read reviews by GIA appraisers, Jewelry experts you will see that he is very reputable and well known for selling great quality diamonds at a fair price and not mark them up like retail chain stores do.

Now they were bought by jared ew and now I'm not sure if i want anything from them.

I wonder how much of an issue this is with rings with halos/pave bands. It may be more of an issue that affects other makers beyond James Allen. I ordered a ring from them, but I got a verragio ring so they don’t actually build those ones, they are just an official retailer. Either way, you can’t beat their value on center stone prices. Retail stores are so much more expensive and have much less inventory. A prospective buyer can look at hundreds of potential diamonds under magnification and make a wise decision based on a variety of parameters. You’d never be able to do that at a retail store, nor would you feel comfortable asking to scrutinize their inventory like that. Because of the price advantage and the ability to select exactly what I wanted, I went with JA, I hope it ends up being a savvy decision
@TaraJadesPage6 жыл бұрын
mrpicky510 not sure. I'm sure it's more of an issue with a particular type of ring. My husband did a lot of research before he bought my ring and though James Allen was the best and their customer service has been great. It's just unfortunate what's happened to the ring. I did just get it back and it's look amazing. Hoping it holds up well this time!

Trust me it’s an issue with all paved rings I’ve lost so many diamonds in mines
@usfanlovesminho50853 жыл бұрын
That is a very thin shank and not much gold to hold the diamonds. IMO if you are going to dish out the money for a diamond you also need to dish out on a substantial setting as well. Plus it being rose gold didn't help either. Channel setting on a shank is the most secure IMO, pave' is the worst although it is the prettiest.

Unfortunately people do not take into account their lifestyle and type of metal in to account when picking out engagement ring. This is a very beautiful and trendy style even 3 years later but with the pave, halo, thin band, type of meter and size of stone… all of that equals a fragile piece of jewlery that you may not be able to be carefree with. Even regular daily wear can cause damage. I don’t think anyone is at fault here it just the nature of this style ring.

My e-ring is also from JA and I love it! I'm sorry to hear you had to go through all that. But I will unlikely experience that problem since my ring is literally so simple. I never wanted any sort of little diamonds on the side because in my opinion, it takes away the beauty of the center stone. Also, as much as I think paves are really pretty, I just don't want it lol Anyway, I just have a center stone roughly about 1.6 ct, G, VS1, 6 prong in 14k gold (stronger than 18k), lab-grown for ethical reasons. And it's beautiful! HOWEVER, I do have one concern... sometimes, it grabs on to my clothes or hair and it gets stuck there. I read an article about it and apparently, it's normal?. I don't take off my ring at all now because it's a pain in the butt and I'm afraid of losing it. I wear gloves when I wash the dishes and I shower with it since I wear another ring that's smaller than my e-ring to secure it. p.s. have you ever heard of JA's lifetime upgrade?? As long as it's in orginal condition and eligible for a 100% credit, you can eventually upgrade to a bigger carat or whatever as long as it's 2x its cost. For instance, if the diamond itself is $2k, then you can upgrade for a diamond worth more than $4k and just pay the difference. I think it's a great idea because I wouldn't know what to do if we upgrade it. It'd be a waste of money. Anyway, just wanted to share 😊
