I ran a food bank with my husband for five years. We ran it out of our church before, and through, covid. We found very little volunteer support - apart from a very small core group of determined individuals, and one of the pastors whose parish was eighty miles away. He started his own 'daughter' organisation with help from my husband. One unusual factor of our charity was that we delivered the food, because our target 'clients' were sick or disabled - thus, unable to collect it. The minute we began putting bible verses inside the food bags, the Charities Commission told us we would have to desist - or be shut down. Apparently this counted as 'marketing' - despite our having included absolutely no reference to our denomination or our physical church building. They were just bible verses on cards from Amazon.

Same here in Australia - I agree with you. I dug around on their website for their statement of beliefs, values and works and so on. On finding the inclusion and support of certain colourful flags and was discomforting, and far from what they once stood for. They are becoming more relevant to this fallen world by supporting diversity, equality and inclusivism. Rather than guiding these and other fallen people (sinners) to Jesus for salvation and leaving grossly sinful lifestyles behind, it appears that they offer support while remaining in them. From memory of recent "Pride Marches' and parades, they join in with some members being actively engaged in these groups. Maybe I misunderstand what they are doing, but being shocked and disappointed by their 'inclusivism' I can no longer support them. The visible body of Christ has some serious issues creeping in.

So true, I am stunned at to what I have found at every building I have walked into in Australia where I have lived so far, it is as you say and worse, some funding drug clinics joined to their building, some so bad there's literally athiests and people who actually hate Jesus sitting in the pews! I'm not kidding! I wish I was.they seem to have become social clubs with memberships. I have resolved to just following the Lord and His teachings the best that I can taking opportunity to fellowship with other believers if I can find any! I have wondered time and again if the Lord wants me to go back into these buildings as many times He has had me testify to professing "christians" that don't seem to really know Jesus at all! But I always conclude that I just can't go along with their heresies and worldly stuff. I have no problem going to sinners as I was a chief sinner and God converted me - so I try to keep engaging with the unsaved but Aussies are hard to reach for Christ- sadly i think in Australia we all have the attitude that if we wanted God or Jesus we know where to go, thinking if we wanted that for ourselves we would go to one of those buildings but sadly if they seek God there they might find a welcoming accepting group of people that make them feel loved and welcome but they wont find Jesus or His teachings and the gospel message because that offends.

Then i started talking about Christ and he yelled at me to be quiet and get back to work. I said as long as i talk to you about work and how to make money for the oraganization your happy, but when i try to talk about Jesus you tell me to shut up and go back to work? I said i see what you're all about. And handed him my keys and identification card and walked out . There was so much that happened in one month i could not put it all in a text. I will say this Salvation Army is not a church it is a militant religious organization that uses Christianity as a cover to make money. All the officers get free housing,transportation, food, clothing, and big salaries, and expect the poor people of the communities to volunteer and work for them for free.Yeah they may help a lot of people, but a very small percentage maybe 1% of the money people donate goes to helping communities, its a scam the same as other false religions.

William said something along the lines of “Give someone the gospel and wrap it in a sandwich”. The social help side of their ministry was a vehicle to deliver the gospel. They would regularly go out and conduct street meetings and share the gospel and street preach outside pubs and in town centres. They constantly conducted salvation meetings and alter calls. People would get some food whilst they attended. Now all the Salvation Army is, is a charity shop and a brass band. Total shambles, and God is not in it.

Read early accounts of the young salvation army and you will find that they were heavily persecuted for their ministry. They often said they would take two coats out on the streets, one to wear whilst preaching which would be baptised in eggs and rotten vegetables, and another clean one to wear back home to their family. They saw thousands upon thousands of souls changed from spiritual death to spiritual life, drunkards and addicts born again of the spirit of God, casting off the old man and putting on the new, saved by the transforming grace of the Saviour our Lord Jesus Christ. Social help was a side product/bi-product of their ministry. Street ministry and people who are serious in evangelism have always suffered persecution regardless of the time. John Wesley preached 800 sermons in a row to thousands and thousands of people before his death and less than 10 of the sermons were preached in a church, because the mainstream church wouldn't allow him in. They did the same to George Whitfield and many others. Go and read accounts of the Scottish Covernanters from the 1600's who refused to pay homage to the king because they said there is not other king than Jesus. They were hunted, tortured and killed and refused to stop preaching and sharing, even upon standing with a noose around their neck on the hangmans scaffold. Christian's have been burned at the steak and tortured and executed in unimaginable ways for centuries for proclaiming the faith. I say to you now, if you think what we have is persecution today, comparatively, it is nothing to times gone by. But even then we are told to suffer persecution with joy and that we should expect it, that all who live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution . Here is a link with many such verses to meditate on if you wish - www.crossway.org/articles/10-key-bible-verses-on-persecution/ Regardless, I say this, and I say this to myself as much as to you or anyone. If we are not being persecuted for Jesus and for living boldly, proclaiming the Gospel to try and prevent those around us going to hell, then it is highly likely we are either, false converts, backsliders, or/and lukewarm Christians who Jesus makes it clear in revelation 3:15-16 that He will spit them out of his mouth. This is a challenge to us to seek to live according to the scriptures, proclaim the gospel to all and bring glory to God, considering our own selves to be dung, not desiring reputation or ambition, but willing to be nailed to the cross with Christ, forsaking everything of ourselves and being dead to the world. All of this modern social gospel garbage where the church is basically a charity shop that only share the goodness of God and says nothing about the wrath of God is sending people strait down to hell with a sandwich in hand. When do we hear preaching on sin and repentance anymore ? not in majority of so called churches. We need revival of the spirit of God to come and cleanse us, starting in the pulpit, then the congregation, and then into the culture. May the Lord bring the next great awakening to our shores and forgive our iniquity. Let us remember this also: that friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4). Let us not be deceived.

My wife and I were Salvation Army Officers for 15 years. We left partly for health reasons, but mainly because of the Army's teachings on the sacraments. They claim that the sacraments are not necessary for salvation and so do not observe them. Technically, that is half-correct. The sacraments may not be necessary for salvation, but they are definitely necessary as a result of salvation. Also, the Salvation Army has its own sacraments--senior soldier enrollment instead of water baptism and the love feast instead of communion. And don't even get me started on the veneration of William Booth.

I once watched a pastor in the SDA Church give his testimony and he was raised in the family that stated the Salvation Army (he may have been adopted) long story short the family was part of the elite class that is involved in occult practices like Transcendental Meditation, like levitating. They have been on the dark side from the start. So, yes Jesus was never in the organization. See if you can find the fellow's testimony it was dramatic he was targeted for sacrifice and he had already received the Holy Spirit and he had to meet the mob on the lawn of his rental barefoot (Holy Spirit told him God was with him and it was scared ground and to take off his shoes) to tell those who meant to serve him up to satan as an offering that his soul belong to Jesus and even if they did kill him he belonged to God. Well that is how I remember it.

The Salvation Army has gone from trying to do some things right, to slipping into bad to worse over the years. I regularly supported the Salvation Army here in Canada. That is up until November 2021 when they announced a threaten and coerce tactic here in Canada against those who chose not to take the C vaccine. They were told they were no longer welcome and would not be allowed to partake in any support or work for the Salvation Army. I did not attend the Salvation Army, but I knew of family members who had turned to the Salvation Army for support in the past.I wrote an email to the local headquarters here in Alberta, Canada and a I also wrote a snail mail letter to their main head office in Toronto, Ontario. I told them we would no longer support them now that they admitted to bullying the needy and destitute and turning away even those who were contracting with the Salvation Army for carpentry work, etc. I don't recall if they ever bothered to respond to my concerns and criticism in my two letters to them. This idea of threatening and intimidating weak and vulnerable people to comply with government regulations or they would be turned away if the didn't. How is that got anything to do with serving Jesus Christ? Around the same time I became aware through other people that the Salvation Army in the United States was pushing Critical Race Theory as well. I also mentioned that in my two letters to the Salvation Army. And just to add in a bit more on this topic. I know another Christian brother who is in his 60's and he grew up in the Salvation Army church because his mother would take them there and she was heavily involved with volunteer work with them as well. The Christian brother said he saw so much unbiblical stuff going on within the Salvation Army he left that church totally years later and now wants absolutely nothing to do with them. In fact he warns other people to not donate their money to the Salvation Army. It is all very sad and brings further disrepute to the view of what Christianity is in the eyes of the world. The world we are supposed to be reaching with the gospel. Christianity is in a state now that is very similar to the blasphemous abominations that were going on the Jewish temple in Israel as described in Ezekiel chapter 8 ( (Ezekiel 8:13) " He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.") We are most certainly in the time of "the falling away" spoken of by Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. The word of God, and the God given doctrine of salvation through the blood of Christ alone is being abandoned for the fastest, easiest way to make money, get bigger church buildings, put on circus clown shows to attract the crowds and rake in more money. God's judgment on the churches and on the world overall is not far from us. "Christians" have replaced biblical truth given to us by God in His word for the "isms" of man, and the pride of the church "experts" and celebrity pastors. The church needs to fall on their face and repent of our rebellion, pride and disobedience and lack of Godly fear and respect for His authority. Oh, I also just remembered talking recently to the family member who I mentioned earlier here in my comment. He had received help from the Salvation Army years ago. I asked him a couple of weeks ago if he ever went back to visit at the Salvation Army. He response was "NO! They have become very political. So I stay away from them" Oh and one more tidbit. I just looked up what Salvation Army has for net reserves here in Canada. They have 1.6 billion dollars. www.charityintelligence.ca/charity-details/58-salvation-army Their impact per dollar is rated as "low"

It is worth discussing! The larger charities are all on the same bus with their public relations! With so much money from governments church charities have blunted their uniqueness of past days. Much of this has happened because “church” membership has drastically declined! The Salvation Army came from a Wesleyan background, but the leadership has largely gone liberal, with links to the “gay” movement across the world!

Not sure what country you are from, but here is my take from Australia. One thing I came to realise about the Salvation Army is that there is a charity/social help side and there is a church. Most people are surprised there is a church, people who meet Sunday and all week who love Jesus and minister. They band together and worship. The outdoor street ministry etc is largely restricted by rules these days, no more marching brass bands allowed. The charity has to comply with rules and regulations. The work still goes on, but !!! It's all one organisation, but it often seems like two.
@danmillar9582Күн бұрын
Yes similar in uk. These rules n regulations aren't the doctrines n decrees of God but from mere man. I understand the worship side is separate to the charity but the reality is, the charity use the "church banner" salvation army birthed by William Booth as a front to lure people in. Salvation is spiritual, it isn't just meeting fleshly needs like food and clothes, it's evangelising people the truth of Jesus and how Acceptance of him is the bread of life and everlasting eternal salvation. I live in UK.

But put this one in your thinking brain. Back a few years or so, when Australia was experiencing some very bad fires , the Salvation Army was suddenly accused of not distributing large donations to needy . It got nasty. The truth was that a lot was distributed fairly quickly, but a lot also went into long-term support that went on for years. Longer than most other charities involved. And they were discovering desperate communities long after the fires were gone and forgotten by most. The point is that a lot of people jumped to a lot of very wrong conclusions based upon false reporting.
