It is astonishing to me how a few weeks ago there was this anger and discontent with Jennie & The Weekend’s lines in The Idol used this same word and most people were up in arms about how cringe it was. A few weeks later JK from BTS uses the same word in the same context and his song is a favorite for the majority of listeners and his fans. His popularity and the fact that he is a member of BTS plays a great part in why this song was received so well despite the struggle to find a comment that praises the song as a overall good quality song in vocals and subject. And the forgetfulness of the fans being outraged that he choose to do this song who has made racial slurs/comments about Asian people. All was forgotten when the explicit version of his song dropped. Having a good/funny video, or supporting a member of a group you like despite not liking the song, or simply wanting them to chart are not reasons to purchase or stream a song or album. It defeats the purpose of tracking purchases and streams that are done with honest/ truthful intentions. Nor does it give the artist honest feedback to make room for improvement. The use of profanity does not equate to being an adult as I have seen many say. Who in their right minds would except a romantic partner, crush or random person to approach them and say I’ll f*ck you right? No self respecting person would find it romantic or equate that behavior to that of an adult. Most people would find it appalling. So why is this acceptable for an Idol? Never mind that this was released for the enjoyment for a predominantly female fan base who seems more than eager to support what can only be described as a chart chaser for the simple reason that the “clean” version was more than enough to understand the subject of song without the use of profanity. As a member of BTS I expected something so much better.
