Mike Williams was much much worse as a rookie than QJ. Mike emerged in his 2nd season, scored 10 TDs. QJ was disappointing last season. But it would be a mistake for anybody to write him off. Also, Jordan Addison, who many say the Chargers shoulda drafted instead of QJ, was just arrested for DUI, the 2nd such incident in the past year or so. Addison has a problem, and I hope for his sake he gets help. My point is that we'll never have to worry about that type of thing with QJ.

QJ has a Great Up bringing… raised by military parents… he will be just Fine. He already made an effort to improve on his skills by working out with Marvin Harrison Jr. during the off-season and he looks faster… besides there were times he was wide open last year but wasn’t thrown to because Herbert was always looking for Allen who probably made sure that Herbert should throw to him before last season started… and the fact that Moore was a Pathetic OC… “ Predictable… Conservative… a second coming of that Dingleberry Losebardi “

@@randycapili9126 All true, but I think Herbert ignored QJ even when he was open because he didn't trust him. I would probably look for KA too. But Herbert won't have a security blanket WR this season, not to begin with anyway.

Mike dealt with a back injury, rookie season

@@d619r2 Yes, and that contributed to his rookie miseries. But he did play in 10 games, and even late in the season after his back had healed he still was lousy, he looked like a complete and total bust.

@andrewbird57 it's hard to get in the groove being a rookie. Add in the injury with no time to gain rapport with Phil dawg. Lots of variables played into his rookie season. He showed, obviously, what a good off-season looks like and how it is when you do have time to build rapport with the qb. I think qj, like Michael has said, was an out of position WR. I truly believe they had different plans for qj, and much of it involved getting him into crosser routes and letting him cook with his feet. Unfortunately, when Mike got hurt, the field wasn't stretched how it should be to give him the space to cook. Once Mike got hurt,qj also had to try to fill that role since he was the closest to Mike's stature and ability. I believe what Michael says about harbaugh using qj to maximize his abilities and not ask him to try to learn new abilities on the fly. They both had questionable rookie seasons, but I feel it from different things going on and not their actual abilities. I think qj will have a 2nd season similar to Mike.

Don't worry about other people's narratives re Justin Herbert. Chargers fans know he is a great QB. There will be a new narrative re JH across the league this season with Harbaugh.

Herbert is a very fiery competitor it definitely showed last year with all the ups and downs. He showed his passion on the field. But naturally, he is a calm dude outside of football, but he turns it off and on when he gets on the field

Colson speculation. 1) He has ongoing issues with his hamstring that hindered him even at Michigan’s ProDay. Hamstring injuries need to really be healed to not be on-going. If this is the case, it is Coach Herbert holding him out. 2) He got the current COVID going around. It is not a killer, but sucks the energy out of you for 2-4 weeks. You don’t want a health compromised player on the field and then turn that into a physical injury. You also would want to keep him away from teammates and not spread it, this one may be the least deadly, but clearly the most contagious. Just my totally uninformed guess.

Yeah, and this time last year, QJ looked like a stud. If you're gonna complain about missing out on a stud third rounder, complain about Amon-ra and palmer and not some rookies who haven't played a single snap.
