That’s the attitude you want from the backup. I’m with RGIII on that Red Zone package. Even out of the Red Zone like NO has used Hill. That is a skill set that can be utilized even if he’s not starting.

YES, RG3! Pro sports can be such a conservative, slowly evolving enterprise. It will take some time, but eventually it will become obvious - and standard practice - to employ ALL of your available talent in what is generally recognized as the most important position in sports. Past failures and custom aside, there is no reason why rotation at the QB position can't work. Every other sport manages to employ back-ups for its superstars, and in football every other position uses some degree of substitution. It only makes sense. Sean Payton started to use this strategy successfully with the Saints, and eventually the rest of the league will see the sense in finding a way to use the back-up QB - usually, one of its top-10 most valuable resources - for something more than holding a clipboard.

I would call a play with Ruddell, Fields and Najee in the backfield. Have Russell and Fields split back of center and Najee behind. Handoff to Najee, he runs and Russell follows and Fields runs opposite. Back pass to Russell, lateral/backward across field to Fields where he has option to run or deep pass.

Unless he looks bad in the preseason Russ will, and should, start. The man only threw one less touchdown last season than Mahomes, while throwing fewer interceptions and scoring more touchdowns with his feet. This despite being benched at the end of the season. One misconception about Russ and Denver. Russ forced Denver to cut him, the same way he ostensibly forced Seattle to trade him by telling them he would walk when he became a free agent again. Those teams never said they were better off without Russ, Sean Payton’s dislike of Russ’s persona notwithstanding. We all know Pete Carroll would still have a job in Seattle if Russ had stayed. Both teams would’ve kept Russ if he had wanted to stay. Was he Payton’s type of QB? No. But there wasn’t a better option for the Broncos. Seattle has a public record showing that they didn’t want to trade Russ…AT ALL! Russ embarrassed the franchise by demanding a trade right after they had gone public with declarations of being all-in. The Seahawks organization was like the guy who proposed on camera, got rejected, and is now disparaging the woman he proposed to, e.g., “She was lousy in bed anyway…she couldn’t cook,” etc. Denver wanted to keep Russ for another season, but they didn’t want to be on the hook for $100M if he got injured. That’s why they requested that he defer his injury guarantee. Russ, understanding that refusing their request would be his ticket out, wisely refused. So no, the Broncos do not think they’re better off without Russ this year, and the Seahawks KNEW they were worse off without Russ. Both teams just played the hands that Russ dealt them. Sean Payton tried to tank on 2023, and there’s a part of him that had to be amazed that Russ was able to withstand his attempted sabotage and put up respectable stats and win the toughest games of their season, understanding that the defense also got its act together. It is a team sport, right? But let’s revise this narrative that Denver thought it was on their best interest to let Russ go, because they did everything they could to hang onto him. Sean Payton treated him like garbage and then began openly disrespecting him more intensely once it became clear that Russ was forcing their hand into cutting him. Russ knew Payton had purposely suppressed his numbers in efforts to tank, and knew Payton was lying when he tried to cover up those tanking efforts by propagating a lie that Russ couldn’t digest his playbook. Anyone who believes that nonsense is an absolute fool. Russ is one of the smartest, hardest-working, most resilient QBs to ever play the game. Payton is asking fans and media to believe that Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, and Jameis Winston, who might have a combined IQ of about 69, could digest an offense that Russ couldn’t. We’re talking about Russ, here, a two-time SB participant and breaker of multiple elite records over more than a decade, couldn’t understand an offense that was likely the equivalent of the offenses Brian Schottenheimer and Shane Waldron ran in Seattle. It’s ridiculous, especially when Russ ran Brian Schottenheimer’s offense so masterfully 2018-2020, Russ’s best years. Do people think Schotty’s playbook was rudimentary? Remember, he was Andrew Luck’s former O.C. before Pete Carroll hired him to coach in Seattle. And, at the risk of pointing out the obvious, Russ shouldn’t have had to adjust to Sean Payton’s system anyway. Russ had been a winner and an elite QB his entire career. Payton should’ve been adjusting to Russ, and his efforts to publicly disparage Russ’s ability to digest his playbook were also a mask for his own coaching inadequacies. If a coach cannot adjust to his best players’ skill sets, as did Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Mike Krzyzewski, Andy Reid, Don Shula, Steve Kerr, Greg Poppavich, and other all-time greats, he’s not a great coach! *SEAN PAYTON IS NOT A GREAT COACH! HE’S A ONE-TIME LUCKY CHEATER WHO MANAGED TO INHERIT IN DREW BREES A QB WHO HAPPENED TO BE A PERFECT FIT FOR HIS SO-CALLED “SYSTEM.”* Russ is still Russ. He still has the goods, yet he is being treated differently than 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers, who is coming off a season-ending injury, 36-year-old Kirk Cousins (also coming off a season-ending injury), and Matthew Stafford, who is about 38 or 39 and suffered a season-ending injury of his own in 2022, which was a big reason the Seahawks even made the playoffs in 2022 after Russ departed from Seattle. People need to look at facts and quit making up sh!t. This is all public record.

Quit trying to make Fields a thing! Will people get real? First of all, Fields essentially said he will get onto the field. Thats the right mindset. He’s not saying he will start over Russ. Fields is competing with Russ. Russ is competing either way himself. Fields’s mindset is exciting but it won’t make him a starter if Russ is just better, which he still is. Fields had requested Pittsburgh when Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph were the QBs. He wasn’t planning on completing with Russ, and frankly he’s nowhere near Russ’s level as a passer, nor does he play as well in the clutch. The Bears sent him to Pittsburgh after Russ signed because they knew he would wind up on the bench, which is where they want and need him as Caleb goes through his growing pains. It’s crazy that people don’t understand why the Steelers became such an attractive option only AFTER Russ signed. They weren’t even looking in the Steelers’ direction. After Euss signed they not only sent Fiekds there but lowered their asking price significantly, essentially paying the Steelers to take Fields off their hands. They did that because they wanted him on another team’s bench, not starting as a franchise QB in his first year away from the Bears. And the idea of Fields displacing Russ is ridiculous when you examine the numbers. *Justin Fields’s 3-Year Career Stats* Pass attempts: 958 Pass completions: 578 Completion%: 60.3% TD-INT: 40-30 Passing yards: 6,674 Passer rating: 82.3 *Rushing yards: 2,220* *Rushing yards/yr: 740* *Rushing TDs: 14* *Rushing attempts: 356* *Rushing y/a: 6.2* Sacks: 135 Sacks/yr: 45 Yards lost: 908 Yards lost per sack: 6.7 Fumbles: 38 (11 Lost) On pace for 152 fumbles over 12 seasons with 44 lost. Russ is superior in every other department. While both take a lot of sacks, Russ has taken them due to bad/inconsistent O-Lines and pure stubbornness on his part. Fields takes them because he can’t read the field! __________________________________________ *Russ’s Career Statistics* Pass attempts: 5,665 Pass completions: 3,668 Completion%: 64.7% TD-INT: 334-106 Passing yards: 43,653 Passer rating: 100.0 Rushing yards: 5,307 Rushing yards/yr: 442 Rushing TDs: 29 Rushing attempts: 981 Rushing y/a: 5.4 Sacks: 527 Sacks/yr: 43.9 Yards lost: 3,464 Yards lost per sack: 6.57 Fumbles: 103 (32 Lost) Career 4th quarter Passer rating: 104 *Keep in mind that Russ’s career statistics include two subpar years in Denver in which both years skewed Russ’s stats downward.* If we were to discount Russ’s Denver years, Russ’s 3-year average stats would be that much better than Fields’s, and that would include two injury years in Seattle (2016 and 2021) that produced outlier statistics.

Even Justin Fields had (44) in only Thirteen starts. People are acting like they watched the games. People are acting like they saw Wilson running away from ghosts and taking unnecessary sacks. People are acting like they watched Wilson dump 50% of his passes to the RB. People are acting like they saw a stagnant offense only come alive in garbage time. Those people know the TD/INT stat line doesnt come close to telling the whole story. There is a reason Wilson had the 21st ranked QBR.

Leading in the 4th of 94 vs. 58 and trailing in the 4th with 4 mins to play of 149 vs. 22. Pickett has had a lot of clutch 4th quarters and Fields has had virtually zero and can't lead a 2 minute drive or even hold a lead in the 4th since he has trouble even getting 1st downs. You must have never watched a Bears game. Picketts record was 14-10. Fields 10-28. Games are won and like St in the 4th, hence the records.

Lynch said the same things that Wilson wouldn’t give him his number and he wanted to talk to him.
