Is KAMPOT worth visiting?

I prefer Kampot and Kep over PP, actually I prefer every place over PP. PP has too much noise pollution, stench and trash. My hometown is Battambong but I prefer SR and I’ll be retiring in Siam Reap in a few years. Already have land in Kandal and Battambong province but I prefer Siam Reap for retirement. There’s so much to explore in SR.

Don't take any ATV tours. I ended up at the hospital in Phnom Penh. Broke 2 ribs, fortunately did not puncture any organs. Japan Sunrise hospital did a very thorough job checking everything with a CT Scan. No organs punctured. Guide was on a 2 wheeler, cut a turn only a 2 wheeler can make. My GF and I ended up in the river trapped under the ATV. Fortunately there were several villagers around to lift the ATV off of us and drag us out. Villagers went off on the guide for cutting a turn only a 2 wheeler can make. Never saw the sunset that was promised. No helmets provided as we were told not needed. Worst part was the fact none of ATV's had rear view mirrors. Venture at your own risk.

Here in California, ATVs have put tons of people in the emergency room.

I came from Kampot and lived in Kampot before moving back to State. Would like to retire in SR in the next 6 years

I was living in Siem Reap and wanted to try Kampot. I went back after a two weeks was sickly sleazy in town, old men with pony tails and young woman there daughter or even grand daughters age. Was very depressing.

No woman grows up wanting to sell her self. Its only desparation from extreem poverty that does this. That is why the West has a small age gap in relationships.

We're moving back to Kampot from Kaeb. We love it there, especially Bokor Mountain.

Yep, exactly my thoughts on Kampot too. Nature is great but the town itself is very sleezy and tired town. It's always been bit rundown feel about it but sleezyness is something new. Back in 2018 it was not like that. I feel in long run Kep will overtake Kampot as holiday destination if nothing is done. And yeah food too, is just bland there. Battambang is (local) food capital in Cambodia. And Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap has far better international cuisine scene. Kampot offering is just same same in all of the restaurants.

Champa ruled the central part of Vietnam. After their land was invaded, they spread out all over SEA. Most of them ran to live in Cambodia.

In the past, Kampot wasn't really a famous province for anything. But the people were pretty wealthy compare to other provinces. When it comes to food, they were known in seafoods. If I'm not mistaken, there were a lot of Chinese Cambodians living in Kampot. Today, a lot of foreigners visited this province. It makes it a little more famous than others. We rarely hear anything about Battambang which is the major hub of rice growing for the whole country. They even call Kampong Thom as the poorest province in Cambodia. Perhaps they don't know about Takeo, Svay Rieng where there are a lot poverty there. Kampot was not a poor province in Cambodia.

You can get around easily from where you are...I've been there...just hire a moto....the girly bars are all over Cambod ia. Kampot has a large expat community...they do actually contribute to the local economy...they marry local women, and they learn to speak Khmer, and adopt Khmer culture. You can still get good Khmer food in restaurants, in Kampot, it has it's own character, and Kep is only 30 odd minutes away....a nice break from the busier cities, and towns. I will be back soon.
