I love mine just for the screen size alone 😍 I also found some word searches, sudoku, notebooks with tabs, and planner etc for it on Etsy and I'm having fun with that. I also have written letters to friends and emailed them the document so it's like a handwritten note.

Considering the remarkable is close to 600 with the pen and cover and the scribe I got was 450 with a case and premium pen with 64gb I would say it is well worth it. Not only can you take notes you have a kindle on it as well. The remarkable 2 is mainly a notebook only and I still think the remarkable 2 is worth it as well. I do love my scribe and use it almost exclusively unless I am going out to read. It has become my #1 device.

You can highlight and write in the margins of PDFs on the Scribe, which is what I believe they showed in the promo videos. Programming the ability to write on epubs is probably next to impossible because unlike PDFs, the words that are displayed on each page may change depending on your font and formatting settings. There wouldn't be a way to tie the annotations to a page because that "page" that you read may not exist the next time you read it. Using sticky notes to mark a word or phrase and then writing on the sticky note is really the only possible way to handle handwritten annotations.

I totally get your point.❤️ I see why it would be tricky. I still think they are charging too much for what it CAN currently do... which isn't really different from much that came before. 🤷♀️

I have the paper white 10th generation and absolutely love it. It just does what it says on the tin. It’s simple to use, light weight and fits in most bags and the battery life is good too. The scribe sounds like a good idea in principle but clearly not perfectly executed just yet! I’m sure they’ll fix it in the future though. One day we’ll be saying, ‘we used to have to write our own notes. By hand. On paper books’ and the ‘kids’ will think we’re really old and a bit crazy 😂📚📝

That you can’t write on the page is a HUGE thing because an annotated page is not just recorded information it is also a visual thing that makes a visual representation of your thoughts. Which than involves both brain sides into the process. Very frustrating that it can’t be done jet.

Thank you so much for the review! I have a few Paperwhite and I didn't think I could love anything more, then I got the Oasis. Absolutely adore the Oasis! Also I got the page turner device, and a gooseneck holder and OMG it's a game changer. My reading style is both bougie and lazy! lol

Lol. I love the oasis too. I have all the generations of it. Lol. It I’m super interested in the scribe too.

As someone who went from a Paperwhite to a Scribe: It is HEAVY to read when holding, and the screen is absolutely massive. it feels almost too large, as in my eyes get lost in the surrounding words. For reference, I like all default settings but I move the font size down to 4. Even with 5 on the Scribe, it still felt too large. The device feels INCREDIBLY high quality, however. I also got the official fabric folio case with it, which is equally as beautiful. I'll be returning it, as the alternative uses do not justify the price. I can find other e-ink displays or regular tablets that allow me to mark up a DND PDF.

I do love my Paperwhite signature edition too especially for travel. Bigger screen, warm light, dark mode.

I got a clear silicone case, it doesn't hold the pen but I found it's easier to read that way. I keep it in a book sleeve with the pen in the bottom. I use scrapbook paper inside the clear case to decorate it. It does say you can't write on the books in the description but I think they may add that in the future, which would be fun! I understand your frustration though.

I don't have the Kindle Scribe though I do have a Kindle Paperwhite which I love and a Kindle Fire which I just upgraded from my older model I'd had for about 8 years. I considered getting the Scribe as I do love annotating but decided against it as that price really put me off it, the fact that you can't write in the margins of the book, and I am not a fan of the size as I like for my e-readers to be fairly portable and able to stick in my pocket. I read mostly on my Paperwhite but I do enjoy being able to read my Hoopla borrows and graphic novels on my Kindle Fire. When my Paperwhite really slows down, I will probably upgrade to the Signature edition as I've heard great things about it plus the wireless capabilities 😄 . Hopefully they will be able to do an update where you can write on your Scribe.

Great review on the kindles, and i share your concerns on the scribe. I think it is fair to say most of us moved with assumption on the writing on a book part because if you go back to the scribe commercials, you will see it delivered the screens they advertised. You can write on the pages of pdf files but not on kindle books because its been said has to do with the level of rights a buyer has on the books to change it's appearnce . Maybe something to protect the intellectual property of a writer. I liken it to how some super car manufacturers can legally stop an owner from overly modifying their car. My main issue is the shallow folder structures on the notebooks, just one level of sub folder. Hopefully, the next software updates mets all our expectations.

Where they print indie published as they’re sold (to my understanding) it’d be cool if you could buy a physical copy with your highlights and notes printed in it after. That’s probably so far from being possible, but would justify the price tag for me 😂

kindle has the greatest potential of replacing physical notebooks/books. I think future updates on the software side of things will make this even better. Get a PDF book and you can write on it just like a physical book

It's crazy that the cheapest one has the most options; the amazon fire is in color, you can connect to wifi and use pretty much any app you want...you can highlight and make notes in an ebook lol. I didn't know about the trade in thing. I have an older one, and now I want to pull it back out and look into that!

I just realized that on my fire hdx that I've had since 2011 I can annotate or leave notes. It shows up as the little dot you have to click but it's doable

Hi, Jenn. I recently bought a Kindle Fire 8 and discovered that some books I can set to continually scroll and some I can’t. I think it depends on where you got the book. I get books from Amazon, some from Hoopla and some from Prime Reading. The settings for each seem to be different.

I have the Kindle Scribe and like it very much. As a reading device it lacks the ability to remove books from the home page to the library where the collections are. Organizing your books is important so the home page isn't being cluttered with new books you have purchased or books you have read but don't need them on the home page any longer. The Kindle App on the iPhone, iPad, and Fire have the capability to remove the books back to the library and into collections. Amazon software writers please help the reader have the control for a more pleasant reading experience.

I just got my daughter the Kindle Fire 10 (kids), and it's nice. She had the 7 before, and it was garbage! So upgrading the fire isn't a bad idea!

I have heard it isn't a matter of programming for writing in books. Its a DRM issue, it is illegal to "change a book" and writing on the book falls in that category. So sadly, I don't think it will ever happen. I really want it too :(

Will there be software updates to add additional features, or do you think they purposely kept it bare bones to bring updates in a new model further down the line
