I have read and been told by many people that lemon Pledge is the ultimate SXS cleaner for detailing your SXS or Off-road vehicle. I decided to test lemon Pledge against my favorite SXS detailing product (SC1) to see how well each cleaner performed and find out if I could be saving $10 per SXS cleaning.

Try using P&S bead maker for a dry aid. When you rinse after a wash, spray that all over them dry. Very hydrophobic and helps with spots. Easy to apply. Really you can rinse, spray that all over, and rinse again if you don’t usually dry. You will still benefit from it. Also a cheap alternative to a dry aid is turtle wax seal and shine.
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
I will definitely look into that. I get water spots like crazy with all the black plastics and dark blue paint. That would be real sweet if I didn’t have to spend a ton of time getting rid of water spots.
@StephenBrewer89
@StephenBrewer89 2 жыл бұрын
@@FilthyKnobsOffRoad they will still show, but like any coating or sealant you will have almost a layer there that will release the hard water spots easier. If it wasn’t so much work to do it right, a ceramic coating throughout would be nice. I’ve done a few on my personal vehicles and the prep work is the worst part but my GL550 has not had any wax or sealants for about a year now and it still beads water and rinses traffic film very easy.

Awesome! we ride from Houghton Lake to Traverse City a lot. I Wash the Inside pretty much the same way. I pressure wash the entire inside including gauges, switches, shifters, all of it. I do try not to spray up real close but I still spray it down pretty good. Then I use SC1 on everything on the interior except for the steering wheel. I pressure wash the seats as well. They really don't soak up much water. I usually leave them dry for a few hours and they are fine. The aftermarket harnesses that I have are really nice and padded but they soak up a ton of water when washing my machine. I have to let those dry over night minimum unless I want some wet suspender strap looking lines on my shirt.

@FilthyKnobsOffRoad

I’ve never noticed mud stains at all with either yet. I have noticed that if you accidentally spray some on the tires it will pick up dirt and have a brown tint. I wash my yxz after every ride pretty much so I have not let dirt sit long enough guess. I’ve used some car products that work ok. I just like these products because they do a great job at hiding scratches and any spots you miss while cleaning.

I broke down and bought a used heated pressure washer. One of my friends steered me towards the Hotsy 550 series, 120v unit. It includes a soap injection circuit and you can get water above 212f if you want. I usually stay around 200f. The machine is bigger than say a Ryobi but it's super industrial and with a little care should last forever. The hot water does a much better job at cleaning everything from mud, oil, etc. I bought mine for $250 back in 2010 and she's still going strong. The only thing to watch out for is leaving water in the heating coil during freezing conditions. I installed a ball valve and blow a little compressed air through to prevent the coil from cracking from freezing water.

Good info on this Video. I'm surprised at the results but it is too obvious to ignore. I do have a question though: I find that putting anything on my machine just creates an oily place for dirt and dust to collect on. Then it really does look atrocious for sure.
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad Жыл бұрын
SC1 continues to hide dust as you are riding. If you get into some real dirt and dust it does seem to collect more dirt but if you use SC1 continually when you clean your sxs it makes the dirt spray off much easier. My machine never looks real clean after I start riding but I like to put it away fairly clean and I like to have it clean when I arrive to a ride. I don’t really notice any issue with collecting dust while the machine is sitting.
@jakeparry6172
@jakeparry6172 Жыл бұрын
The trick is getting your rig super clean before applying SC1. I usually spray SC1 and let it sit for a few mins before wiping so it gets time to seep into the plastics. SC1 might collect a little dust but it’s much easier to clean off. Essentially the SC1 make a barrier from mud and dust. Also after washing use a leaf blower and towel to dry. That will help chase those water spot off as well.

Great video, thanks for making it. However, I wonder if you used a new rag to wipe down the Pledge after using it on the SC1. I suspect that you got streaks on the black painted plastics due to cross contamination of the two chemicals. Perhaps a clean new rag wouldn't have left any streaks?

Here is a video I made about it if you want a closer look: TESSERACT OFF-ROAD REAR CARGO STORAGE BOX | INSTALLED ON 2019 YXZ | SXS/UTV/ATV/ORV kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4LCqIiGhJuUepo You can buy them from the website as mentioned in my video but I don’t know how much it will cost or how long shipping will take with the war going on with Russia. They have it available on Amazon but it’s a lot more than I paid. amzn.to/3Ig9DUs

Pledge will do some cleaning as well. SC1 will not. But SC1 looks a little better when it’s all said and done we tested it at the shop on a few different rigs plastic metal street bikes, side-by-side and four wheelers. Both are good. You used way too much plants it goes on differently. You wipe it on with one rag then you take another rag and you wipe it off.

On the can of sc1 it says to spray it on and leave it for a few minutes. Then wipe it off. I guess it’s like a wax. It also says if you want maximum mud release just spray and leave it. Don’t wipe it off.

is SC1 greasy after it dries for a few days?
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad Жыл бұрын
If you spray it and leave it it will be a little greasy for a few days for sure. I like to wipe it down with a towel after I spray it on and that gets rid of most of the greasy-ness. If you wipe your finger across after a few days you will feel some lubricity but it’s not wet like it would collect dust.

Nice video, how do you like the yxz I'm thinking about trading my x3 for one ??
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love my yxz. The ability to shift gears makes it a blast to drive in the trails and dunes. It’s not great at rock crawling, mud bogging or going real slow in general. It’s has been an extremely reliable machine and it can really take some abuse. I was torn between the yxz and an X3 when I was shopping for a sxs. The x3 new was going to cost me $34,000 for the machine and the aftermarket Radius rods, shock tower braces and various mods to make the x3 as reliable as I want it to be. The yxz cost me about half of that price.I just didn’t feel like the x3 was going to be double the fun for double the price. Plus I didn’t want to worry about watching belt temps and changing belts. Ultimately I love the yxz but I still find myself wanting an X3 for more suspension travel and a factory turbo for more acceleration for hill climbs and jumping. The x3 is an all around more capable machine. I would probably hold onto it. You can make the yxz extremely fast but even with a long travel kit it’s never going to ride or jump as well as an x3 in my opinion.

Sc1 attracts dirt,.it has an oily type base... Pledge is more like a wax and dirt flings off. Pledge is way better and you're able to find wood polish type pledge at the dollar store.
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad
@FilthyKnobsOffRoad 11 ай бұрын
I’ve never noticed either attracting dirt honestly but when I take the SXS out I know it’s going to get dirty so I don’t really pay attention. I do notice SC1 has a greasy feel for a while so that might cause it to hold onto some dirt. I notice that SC1 does absorb and hide some dust. you don’t notice dust on the machine if it sits for a few weeks. I don’t say it but in my review a lot of my focus was on how each performed on faded black plastics and how easy it was to wash dirt off the machine. SC1 was definitely better for those things. I think probably SC1 is best if you want the machine to look it’s absolute best, if you’re selling it or if you don’t have a ton of time for cleaning. Pledge works really well if you are trying to clean up the machine for cheap and may be better if you want to keep it clean during a ride like you said to fling the dirt off. Neither did a bad job. I will try to find the wood type pledge and give that a try. Thanks!

The SC1 is pretty good but it is way overpriced The Pledge works just as good the only thing is you didn't rub it in enough that's why it showed that film if you would have rubbed it in again with a dry cloth it would have been better and shinier than the SC1 it just takes a little bit more elbow grease but if you look at the price difference pledge is the way to go SC1 needs to lower their price the only way to do it is to lower their sales

@@FilthyKnobsOffRoad ok so then the pledge would require more elbow grease. If that worth saving 7-8 dollars then do it. Personally I spray on rag not on part. So one can would at least last me 2 whole jobs. Over spray waste happens. And once rag is saturated. I don’t see the need for spray on part then wipe. You might be able to spray on rag and at least do body panels versus faded black parts.
