This week, Anthony talks with political scientist Brian Klaas about his new bestseller, Fluke: Chance, Chaos, and Why Everything We Do Matters.
Brian argues that but for a few small changes, our lives and societies could be wildly different. He gets personal on the flukes that have altered the course of his own life; discusses the many random moments that have defined history; and explains why we control nothing but influence everything…

Hello Anthony: Thank you both for this very interesting and enriching exchange. Congratulations on citizenship. Sometimes we must avoid showing that we know more for our own benefit in asymmetric situations.:)

Taiwan/Formosa is independent from mainland China because of a fluke. This has impacted my life mainly because Edgar Snow, Mao's biographer was from the University of Missouri. A fluke you say? Mao ordered his army into the Yellow River and more than 90% were infected and disabled by a Fluke. More than 70 years later, Taiwan is still independent and makes a large number of the world's advanced chips.
