Keep to your reputation of being fair. 15:12 “Which is a lot more torque then you’ll probably need for a P.C. build” - Making excuses for it when this could be true for all of them. 15:38 “Definitely not a tool made for rugged use” - A more appropriate comment for the LTT one as well. LTT screwdrivers are quite consistent it would appear - often in the top of the pack, not expensive compared to better performing tools, but indeed a bit pricey for many people who doesn't need a screwdriver everyday. I think they are made by megapro. I bought one way before LTT started to rebrand them and I swear to god it's the only tool that I've genuinely been surprised how well it was designed. I probably put 15,000 hours of use on that little red fucker and it's still going strong lol

@griffinmackenzie6364 iirc LTT has been very transparent that they used patented ratchet and bit holder designs from Megapro, but LTT did made lots of changes to achieve their desired ratchet feel, e.g. the low ratchet back drag. Definitely great for low force and more delicate applications like electronics assembly and disassembly (duh), but yeah the original Megapro should be much better for heavy jobs (not to mention the LTT upcharge) - although it looks like the only way to get a Megapro-style ratcheting stubby at the moment is the LTT Stubby.

I absolutely love these videos, and you know why? Because they’re not just tests done with stupid music on-screen with very little commentary, but there’s so much love, soul and joy put into them. I’m visually impaired so the amount of dialog really helps, where other channels might just throw Uber-pretty graphs on-screen and call it a day, don’t bother to paint the back side of the fence, go that extra mile but not this channel. I'm always genuinely impressed by the design focus with the LTT screwdrivers. The backdrag makes them ideal for really fiddly fine threaded fasteners with enough strength to be practical in any reasonable use. If I had to put this much torque on a philips screw I'd probably already have pulled out the drill or an impact driver lol.

Honestly, at $14 the No Cry is a great value from a back drag perspective being so close to the $70 GearWrench, and the $30 Stahwille with its fairly strong magnet and still fairly low backdrag is a close second in value in my mind, especially if you have your own bits handy and would otherwise be ok with no onboard storage

@@garymccreath2773 Not sure who the OEM is for that one, but the same tools (with slightly varying styling) are sold by a number of brands. I happen to have a Bahco branded one, but would not recommend it. There‘s nothing particularly wrong with it, but the ratchet isn’t all that precise, mediocre back drag and it has a fair bit of shaft wobble. The toothless ratchets made by Oplast (sold under Hazet, Gedore and some other brands in different configurations) are just better and similarly priced.

Thanks for the test, Todd! I have both the standard size PB Swiss and LTT ratcheting screwdriver; while both are great, I like the PB Swiss more - the bits are much superior in durability (normal use, not near failure), the handle material is MUCH better as it gives more grip rather than the sleek and slippery design of LTT, and it is more ergonomic. You got to give to the Swiss. They make great tools.

Hi "Project Farm", old retired Navy Veteran who has his own "project farm" to support. Again, thank you for your honesty, your humility, your integrity, and your dedication to helping fellow DIY's. Your test results are very practical and useful especially for people on a (limited) budget; they reflect issues that most of DIYers face especially the ones dealing with self-employment (like farmers, small shop owners, ...). It means a lot to us (the "little people"). I have subscribed to "Consumer's Reports" for over 40 years and their testing is good/accurate but your reviews are more "practical" and you do not hesitate to "call a cat, a cat" i.e. you actually rate/publish (number-wise) your results (something similar to the "Torque Test Channel"). @@dad1432 Hi Dad1432, I fully agree with you. CR's methodology is excellent but they have introduced the "greenie" bias in their philosophy of testing which introduces a "government-supported" bias. The other issue I see/read is the lack of actual result numbers on the testing of their products (as opposed to Project Farm, Torque Test Channel, ...). This makes it harder for people like me to be able to reproduce their results or make better "informed" decisions in my product purchases. Ciao, L

I don't like the rotate-to-change-direction feature, though i own a couple. I think i would strongly prefer the mechanism on the NoCry. It seems like that is much easier to use one handed, with less room for confusion about what it means - push towards the screw to screw it in, pull back to screw out. Thanks for the video. Once you've used them for a while, you remember which way to turn them. I have the milwaukee, and the rotate is opposite of the full size screwdriver annoyingly. More important is that it's way easier to accidentally move collar while using the stubby. The full size I have no issues, but with the stubby I accidentally turn the collar way too often.

Personal preference comes into play heavily on these for me. I actually prefer ones that don't have bit storage in the handle. Usually when I'm using one of these it is with my finger tips in a tight spot. A smaller profile handle suits me better because of that.

One suggestion for future comparisons: you might want to consider aggregating the final scores based on relative performance, not rank, e.g., mapping the worst & best value to 0 and 10 respectively: if the highest weight you can lift with the magnet is 1kg and the lowest is 0, then a screwdriver lifting 750g would get a 7.5/10. This should make your overall ratings more fair in the plenty of cases where you might have a few competitors that all do similarly well in some categories

I love that you present the data in a no-nonesense "these are the data points" fashion, and I really appreciate that you don't conclude with "This is the best overall and that's it." If I'm working in a tight space - like in a computer case or under a dashboard - then low backdrag is extremely important and I'm not likely to use the locked shaft feature. Being able to quickly change bits and not require separate storage is a nice-to-have feature, but not a deal-breaker for me. That said, I would still get the LTT rather than the Snap On because they performed very similarly but LTT is much less expensive. Keep up the great work!

The rotation at the locked position is kind of misleading as the measurements are taken so far away to get a better idea between all of them. Any that did not make it past 1 inch in that test is great in my opinion. I have the original LTT driver along with many other ratcheting tools. The bit storage, magnet, ratchet and ergonomics is what makes it for me. It is expensive yes but no other driver I have tried comes close. All other options I can think of that would be second would have a extremely poor magnet and far worse ratchet.

It'd be cool to see on the graph what you consider acceptable values for each/some criteria. For example, with bit retention strength low values are bad but values that are too high are as well, so some form of color coding on the graph to see what you think is the best range would bring those abstract numbers more into context. Hey Todd, absolutely love your videos! Quick idea for taking out human error at the backdrag test: if you fit a small pipe over the hex-shaft for the part that lays on the middle platform, there will be less inconsistency/more accuracy with overcoming the bumps of the hex-shaft. The positions where you started varied from screwdriver to screwdriver, so the rotational position of the hex-shaft also varied/the horizontal distance to where the sting is attached to the weights. So some seem to have started on one of the 6 bumps, while other seem to have started on one of the flat sides and had to overcome the bump. I hope my attempt at explaining makes sense? I really love your videos and watch every single one! You always seem to find simple and efficient ways to take the human error factor out as much as possible. Kind regards

A suggestion on your final scoring: As it currently is, you only take into account the place a tool finished in. However, you don't take into account if the tool in place 1 was 10 times as good as the tool in place 2, or only marginally better. For example, the PB Swiss did almost twice as good as the second place in the bit retention strength, but that doesn't get reflected in the final score. Personally, I really like the spreadsheet that the torque test channel uses in their videos. This takes the actual values a tool scored, and then applies a weighting to get a final score. Personally I don't like the weighting (unless the spreadsheet is publicly available so people can change the weighting to their preferencers), since each person has a different need. One wants a tool with as little backdrag as possible, the other doesn't care one bit about backdrag, but it does provide a nice overview. This is also something that slightly bothers me about your videos. You put a lot of effort into these videos, but then don't make the things you found out readily available. Sure, I get that you want people to watch your entire video, but it would be very nice to have an overview table at the end of the video (again, like the torque test channel), where all the things you tested can be viewed at once. That would probably help people find the tool they need without having to skip through the video looking at the test results individually.

It's also the reason why I shelled out for the PB Swiss, however I was disappointed with the heavy backdrag. After also not being too impressed by my Wera ratchet, I decided to try the LTT one and for the first time ever I'm actually really satisfied by a ratcheting screwdriver. I just wish it had the magnet strength of the PB Swiss.

Well, I've never used an air wedge as a door stop. I have however used Rhino's to install several upper kitchen cabinets. They are excellent, so don't worry that you may have been scammed. You didn't.

@@ST-0311 good to know. I had bought a wedge-it brand door stop and the rhino to see how they would work. the wedge-it didn't work it the door was either too heavy or the door spring was set too tight so if you looked at it wrong the thing would shut. The rhino worked were that item failed.

It's impressive don't get me wrong, coupled with everything else it's brilliant - but when it comes to ratcheting tools I've never found wobble/slop to be a significant indicator of anything straight out the box. They all end up the same way very very quickly. Now if LTT retained that tightness over a long period, I'd be super impressed and would make it my go to. But the larger LTT didn't hold up for me in that regard. My experience is they all end up just as wobbly as each other after a week of use, and if you need an exacting use, it might be best to see if you can use a non ratcheting tool. But it's definitely a very very good indicator of strong build quality in the LTT and its impressive that a company like LTT that doesn't (yet) specialise in tools has such high quality control

Todd deliberately uses a mix of enthusiast tools that are common among serious tool users (by which I mean those of us who use tools frequently in either a professional setting or similar) in both the US and Europe as he has a large audience in both (and he's mentioned this). He's not necessarily looking at the most popular items but the ones someone who is using these tools everyday and wearing them hard might use. So while sometimes he may miss some of the mass market tools, be aware that most of the brands you haven't heard of - they're likely not aimed at you but another section of the audience who are just as valid and large as the US one.

I love the sheer overall quality of the PB Swiss, but I think you're right - 'stubby' usecase would typically have you prioritize ergonomics and low backdrag, and the LTT stubby excels in those cathegories. (I'm disregarding the Snap On as an option due to lacking bit storage and a personal dislike of the design. Also, it somehow managed to make the LTT and PB Swiss look like good pricing in comparison. Only one bit included, lol.)

HF has had a number of 'good' tool reviews on occasion the last couple years. They can spec quality at least up to anyone else, if they want to pay for that level and take the hit on profit. They rarely do, though recently they seem to be pricing a lot of stuff a bit higher with less jankiness looking internals. Gotta watch for the bait and switch where AvE or someone does a teardown and finds its good quality similar to on of the other top names, and then once a run starts on them and their rep get passed by word of mouth, they swap in a different SKU model that looks the same but is value engineered lower for higher profit.

A subjective criticism on some of the screwdrivers' design; the bit tip is too close to the wide handle (e.g. Wera), would definitely be an issue in some tight electronic spaces. A shame the Klein, Milwaukee, PB Swiss had so much back drag, they seem to be the most useable aside from LTT. Also, the other tools you mentioned where they were made in, LTT you didn't.

Nice video as usual! Ever consider doing some add-on short videos that continue/sequel to this video such as testing a few other brands then comparing the new data to that of these already tested brands? The Kobalt stubby ratcheting screwdriver feels solid. And there a couple other brands.

I think I'll be getting a Stubby from LTT as well. After really not caring much about the first, I decided to try it regardless, and it has turned into my favourite. So I guess they got me on the next one as well!

Have you considered applying "importance factors" to your charts at the end for scoring? That way, the tests that matter most get weighted more significantly than other nice-to-haves. Just a suggestion!

For this video, I was most interested in shaft wobble and back drag. Nothing else is useful to me, including the efficiency of the ratchet mechanism. What did everyone else find helpful?

He very explicitly does not do that for any test because what is important changes by the consumer. Some people, for some applications, will care about nothing more than back-drag. Other people, in other uses, will care greatly about the overall length. Some others will care about maximum torque, while others doing delicate work won't care at all.

16:00 - he said it though? even highlighted snap-on/ltt after saying the PB swiss is too high on backdrag you can also just make your own ranking by picking categories that you need to most (each person requires different specs). add them all up then divide by number of categories that you have selected.

Exactly. What is the problem this type of screwdriver solves that something else doesn't already do better? Useless product unless you're being paid by LTT to feature their product. I thought he didn't take products for free...
