My neighbors daughter skips into her stepmoms arms every weekend and the child screams like a banshee when the mom comes for her on sunday evenings. I didn't pay this much attention until I heard the biggest argument from my back window. The stepmom was yelling that they couldn't continue to leave her with the mom and the dad was shrieking that he couldn't do anything about what the judge said. They have her now and you hardly see the stepmom without her tail.

Well this situation would seem a lot more natural because she had already spent 5 years closely bonding with the kids. I mean, for FIVE YEARS her job was to take care of the children and bonded with them on an intimate level. So it would make sense they would feel comfortable calling her "Mom" after she officially became their stepmother.

Well, it makes sense even if it's not for comedy purposes. During most of the show, when the action is at the Sheffield home, they're almost exclusively downstairs, so it makes sense for them to make use of that bathroom.
