Part 10 of my Thru Hike of the Appalachian Trail. I cross into Maine and hike Mahoosuc Notch, the hardest one mile of the Appalachian Trail. Tell me what you think? Does it look that hard? I join forces with my hiking buddy, Thumper to try and make it to My Katahdin.
At this point of the hike more than 75% of hikers have quit the trail, but I continue hiking north.
The Appalachian Trail is the 3rd trail on my hiking journey to complete the hiking triple crown. Will I make it from Springer Mountain to Katahdin? Stay tuned and find out.
My name is Brad, on the hiking trails I'm known as Shepherd.

Your hiking videos are by far the best I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). I would love to see a tutorial on the techniques and equipment you use if you ever feel like putting one out. I can really appreciate the time and effort you must have put into filming this one in particular.

Thank you for the kind words. I do have several 'how to' videos in the works but it will be many months before they will be published. At the moment I am too busy traveling and making my current adventure hiking and bicycle touring videos. So stay tuned and thank you

So, you never answered the question of your own title.....just how hard is it? Can an older guy like me in my late sixties but in decent hiking shape make it? And how long does it take the average hiker to go through this thing? Looks intimidating as hell!

The wife and I went through the notch in 2007 on our AT hike. I was 62 and she, 59. Yeah, I know.

One question- if it's such a tight fit going through the rocks, why don't people take their packs off and push them through first or tie a rope to them and pull them up and through after they get through?

I have backpacked many sections of the AT, but not that far north. Looks challenging for sure. Great series!

It's a rewarding section of the trail. Tough but a lot of fun.

I did that as a section just to see how it went. I had to take the pack off and drag it a couple times, but that was the worst. All the rest was gravy. Good vid

There's no way I could get thru this maze with my normal 80-90 lb pack loads. Does the Notch have an alternate bypass trail????

How the f do you hike 1900 miles and you're still carrying two poles? Reee-diculous. Why is he going through holes rather than walking on top?
@LorraineVirginie
@LorraineVirginie Жыл бұрын
The boulders in this area are so large that going over takes far more work than going under. This trail has many steep descents where poles would be invaluable. It’s easy to criticize from behind your computer though. Go try it for yourself and share your own videos if you think the way he’s doing it isn’t good enough!

Why can't people just climb on the rocks instead going through that small hole space would be easier
@bikehikesafari
@bikehikesafari 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you've been there but that is the trail. A boulder field that requires climbing through small gaps.
