look...he's a good brother, but he also has flaws, he's not perfect, even Luigi has flaws like telling lies sometimes, but Mario most of the time is proud and even selfish but still he loves Luigi and Luigi loves Mário, these two sides have been shown several times in the games but the love and respect between brothers was the most shown side, as in Mário & Luigi Dream Team where Mário enters the world of dreams and seeing that Dreamy Luigi is identical to his real brother they hug and work together as usual

I believe Mario checks out in being a great older brother to Luigi. Moments such as Mario Power Tennis and Mario Kart Wii seems to be cases of sibling rivalry or siblings teasing each other, which isn’t any different from how sibling act like in real life rather than negligence or animosity. After all, Luigi wouldn’t care for him that much in Dream’s Deep if it wasn’t the case.

Mario isn't a bad brother, he's actually really supportive with him. Both of them are competitive with eachother (Luigi while being timid, he can get competitive at times, you can see this on the n64 era). The RPG Mario games explore this a lot, on Bowser's Inside Story he defended him after Starlow started to throw shit at him constantly for being the way he is.

There are also the Mario and Luigi games. These games have the bros work together through the whole game and they have some very good moments between them. Whenever they are separated and eventually reunite, they always rejoice and Luigi even cries tears of joy and Mario is there to help Luigi hug it out. We also can't forget that there are times when Luigi gets very underestimated or other characters think that Mario did all the work and Mario stands up for Luigi. Mario is a good brother.

Some people may try to argue on how "Mario leaves Luigi behind while going on adventures" despite there being alot of times Mario brought Luigi along even if he didn't want to be. Either way there are two good intentions as to why Mario would leave Luigi behind. A: He thinks it might be too dangerous and doesn't know what he'd do with himself if Luigi got seriously hurt. B: If something happened to himself or if something happened while he was away he has enough trust in Luigi that he'd be able to handle it.

I have never liked the MatPat Mario theory mostly due to his take on Mario and Luigi's brotherly relationship. I feel like when people point out stuff like the Power Tennis cutscene, they forget that the Bros. are brothers and obviously sibling rivalry might occur. They also seem to forget or ignore when actually shows compassion and love for his brother mostly in the game series Mario and Luigi. A series literally focused on how good of a pair these 2 are. I'm not as familiar with Mario and Luigi. I'm more of a Sonic and Tails fan. But speaking as a big sister myself, I can confirm that competitions can make siblings a little salty with each other. You should see my little sister's and my reactions when we consistently lose to each other when we play card games like Bond, Speed, and Nerts. 😅🤣😂 We can get on each other's nerves at times. But at the end of the day, we love each other no matter what. @sonicsta I would love to see your take on whether or not Sonic is a good brother to Tails. Also we get competitive when we play video games and sometimes we argue because one wins more rounds over the other. But we love spending time together and we are friends. Let's be honest, we shouldn't take what Game Theory says as fact because half the time, what he says is complete nonsense, like the way he tries to paint Mario as a bad person or how he constantly tries to debunk Sonic. As for Mario being a good bro., I think the RPG games illustrate this so well because of the great lengths both brothers went to find each other in Superstar Saga, how Mario defends Luigi when Starlow teases him about the Partners in Time events in Bowser's Inside Story, or even how we get to really see what Luigi thinks of Mario in Dream Team Bros. through Dreamy Luigi. Then there are the Luigi's Mansion games. I agree the scene in Luigi's Mansion 3 was heartwarming and the perfect way to show Mario and Luigi's brotherhood. But then there's the original Luigi's Mansion where Luigi went out of his way to fight ghosts and save Mario. If Mario was a bad brother, would Luigi have risked himself to save him? Heck, Mario was thinking of Luigi when he was being chased by King Boo, hence why we find the clue 'Look out for Boos, Luigi!'. Then, in Luigi's Mansion 2, when Mario is free from his portrait, he immediately congratulates Luigi and even calling him 'Number 1'. All these examples show that Mario is indeed a good brother but also a competitive person.

Me personally, I think Charlie Day makes for a surprisingly (or not) great Luigi. As for Chris Pratt as Mario, I agree that there certainly were better choices, but ironically his voice is what I would expect to come out of the mouth of a 26 year old man (which Mario is, by the way) more than Martinet's more high pitched voice. My only real gripe is that the Brooklyn accent (which is probably what he was trying to go for) is a bit too subtle.

For more evidence that Mario is a good brother, just take a look at the Mario & Luigi series, like when an important item was lost in the goop with Luigi, when asked to pick a treasure, Mario picked his brother. Or that time with the Stargate, where Mario got super pissed at it after it made Luigi cry. Or literally the entirety of Dream Team as a whole because they’re adorable! I feel like the games that these two have the best bond in, are the Mario & Luigi games. Most of the cutscenes in those games really show that these two really love each other as they hug multiple times when they're rescued. I feel like the best sign of this is in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. At one point when Mario enters the dream world, a bunch of messages from Luigi's thoughts start floating around. Each of these really show that Luigi really cares for Mario and he sees him as his hero. Also, before the fight against Giant Bowser in the dream world, Dreamy Luigi is the first one to be prepared to face Bowser and Mario is surprised at this as normally he would be the first one to be prepared and take action. Meanwhile, in the real world, Luigi isn't holding his hat down in fear. He's holding it down with confidence, which really shows that all of these tough giant battles with Mario have made Luigi not only braver, but also stronger which truly shows that when Mario and Luigi are together, they can do anything and them caring for each other and being with each other increases their strength and makes them unseperable. So yeah, Mario and Luigi are fantastic brothers.

There’s also the Star Gate in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. The Star Gate says Luigi is not worthy to pass through the Star Gate and tasks him to retrieve a block that will make him worthy. After Mario, Luigi, and the babies find the block, Luigi pushes it. The Star Gate then asks him who he thanks for this, and after Luigi goes through all 3 answers, the Star Gate gets angry at Luigi, yelling at him because he did not pick answer 4: everyone. After Mario and the babies stand up for Luigi, the Star Gate reveals that the entire thing was a test for Mario to see how much he cares for Luigi.

That hug scene in LM3 really stuck with me, and it truly encapsulates the relationship between Mario and Luigi. And as for the scene in Mario Rabbits Kingdom Battle, I didn't even know about that until today! Aww. The Mario movie does a *phenomenal* job of portraying the relationship between the brothers. From the argument with Spike, to Luigi bringing Mario dinner (even taking the remaining mushrooms off his plate), to Mario trying to save Luigi from Bowser and Luigi returning the favour... everything in the movie regarding these two was beautiful. Looking back on the DiC cartoons, their relationship was really solid there too. Here's a few examples: * *Quest for Pizza* Mario gets bitten by Bowser/Koopa's snake staff, and is near death throughout the episode. To say Luigi is crushed by this is an understatement. When he finds out about the cure, Luigi stops at nothing to save his brother. * *Love Em and Leave Em* More a minor detail than anything else, but when Mario hears that Queen Rotunda threatens to kill Peach/Toadstool, Toad and Luigi, his response is "no one's going to drown *my brother* in oil!" Luigi is also the most worried about Queen Rotunda forcing Mario into marriage. (Long story short, there's a love potion). * *Mind Your Mommy, Mummy Mario* When Mario gets captured by Queen Mushroom-koomon, while it is Peach/Toadstool who coordinates a plan to rescue him, Luigi actually comes up with ideas of his own. He uses a steam-powered balloon to carry Peach/Toadstool and Toad while in Racoon Power, and he builds a steam-powered mummy sled to plow down Bowser/Koopa's castle to save his brother. And Luigi hugs Mario the second he finds him. Aww. * *Super Koopa* When Luigi is kidnapped by Bowser/Koopa, Mario's the first to charge after him and jump into the warp zone. Luigi even knows that when a 'cake' is 'presented' for 'someone's birthday', he easily deduces that it's not his or Mario's birthday. (now, it's possible that the brothers are twins, but the DiC cartoons never confirm or deny that, so it's possible their birthdays are on different days in this continuity.). As a sidenote, Toad really shines in this episode. * *Fire Sale* Luigi trips and Mario tries to grab his little brother to pull him back up. Unfortunately, para-goomas attack and Luigi falls. Mario immediately panics and when the group end up in Ice World, Mario finds Luigi and the two embrace.

I always hated when people say that Mario is a bad brother, especially after the Game theory video and the one scene from power tennis since sometimes brothers/siblings kinda like to mess around with each other and kinda get a bit competitive with each other sometimes, and that also implies on Mario and Luigi as well. And there are so many examples of Mario being a good brother like in the Mario and Luigi series, Mario plus Rabbits, Luigi's Mansion, etc. and the whole plot of the Mario movie is Mario trying to save Luigi. So even if they might get a bit aggressive to each other, deep down Mario and Luigi truly care for each other, and I always think that Mario is a Good Brother

Hello Sonicsta, I know my comment will be a bit late, but I just wanted to share my thoughts regarding if Mario is a bad brother or not. When playing the games in the series, I don't think Mario is a bad brother at all. Funnily, with the Mario Kart Wii opening, I feel it does a good job showing the relationship between Mario, Luigi, and Peach. When the intro starts you see Mario and Luigi look at each other seriously, but you then see them laughing and smiling with each other. It's showing how they are overall playing with each other. By them being brothers, they will play with each other aggressively, like brothers tend to do. They pushed each other around, and though Mario looks serious, he says "let's a go" in a happy tone still showing that he is joking. By the tone of both of their voices, it's another way that shows they are playing with each other. Mario and Luigi do not sound mad at each other. Going back a bit, at the start, by them pushing each other, you hear them grunting back and forward, however, when Mario says "let's a go," Luigi says "yeah." Overall, it still shows that they are playing. By them racing and trying to beat each other, they are focused. When playing a game or video game, you can look focused where it comes off as a mean look. When Peach comes and knocks Luigi out of the way, Mario knows he will be okay. Nothing bad happened to him, he was knocked back. The reason why Mario wasn't interacting with Peach in the same way he was interacting with Luigi is because of his feelings for her. This doesn't mean he loves Peach more than Luigi. Men tend to act softer with women than they would a male when it's someone they have feelings for or even their daughters. With this in mind, it's why Mario's interaction with Peach is different. We see how he plays with her, where he will treat her gently and slightly nudge her. By Mario Kart Wii being something that is just an intro, by them having wii wheels as well, leads me to think it's not something that really happened overall. I was talking to a friend about the victory scene in Mario Power Tennis, and he said it can be viewed as a "what-if scenario," since Luigi has to win for it to play out. He mentions that assuming he didn't canonically win, the scene would not play out. By Luigi nothing showing that it's canon he won, and the scene only being a scenario of possibility if he did win, it's an event that did not happen. With that said, I feel in the cutscene, Mario was just playing with Luigi. Sometimes, you can play with someone, however, they may not know it's a joke. In playing with them as well, you may hurt them a bit, unintentionally so. When looking at Mario's interaction with Luigi, I think this is the case. When he hits Luigi on his back, he didn't hit him with a lot of force to push him forward where it would cause him pain. it just moved him a bit. As for the grinding on his foot, by Luigi not screaming, or yelling in pain, It shows how he really wasn't hurting, but it hurt him a bit where he can feel it. It's like if you would bang into something, you can feel it, but it doesn't hurt a lot where you would scream or cry in pain. However, Mario doesn't show where he knew he was hurting Luigi even a bit. He was trying to hold his foot down where he couldn't move, still playing with him as if he was upset. When Luigi tried to move back, in Mario's eyes it was just him playing back, like playfully trying to away from him. As stated before, you can play with someone, and by mistake hurt them. Mario is known to be very playful, so with the scene, it's like Mario was playing with Luigi, pretending he was upset with him. Mario is competitive, however, he's shown to be a more friendly competitive person. When Mario does look serious in intros, or box art, it's just a look of him being focused. By it being a game, he will still take it seriously, but he wouldn't go overboard. Taking a game seriously is something we all do. I feel seriousness in this regard, however, can be a little loose. If it's viewed as a person is taking something seriously because they are trying to win, I don't see anything wrong with that. When we play a game, our goal is to win. However, we will have fun playing the game, along with playing with a person. I feel it's the way someone can take it seriously, like if they are angry that they won, or they are sad and they won't get over it. For Mario, though he is of course trying to win, he sees the fun and enjoys playing with his friends. With that said, to me personally, I don't think some of the box art or intros really happened. It just gives us a look at the game for the most part. When Mario does take on a challenge, I think for the most part he is just confident. We see this in the mainline series when the characters challenge him. Though we don't hear Mario say something back to the characters, some of the things that are said to him and the objectives he has to do, are things he did come across. In Super Mario 64, Koopa the Quick tells Mario to race him and tells him to just try him. Mario racing him shows that he is confident in feeling he can beat him. With Mario+Rabbids - In the scene, Peach is holding on, while Luigi was going into the hole. Peach was brought into the hole and was gone, whereas Luigi was still there. These are the reasons why Mario was focused on Luigi in the Mario+Rabbids cutscene. I thank you so much for your time! I hope my comment could be a way to show that Mario is a good brother.

Plus Luigi is no saint himself considering in the intro to mario 3 luigi kicked a koopa shell into mario's face, it isn't really them being bad brothers it's just them being brothers in general since siblings pick on each other all the time. Edit: Ok apparently I remembered it wrong sort of, I just rewatched the intro and it was more Luigi jumped on marios head then mario kicked a shell, luigi kicked it back at him, it hit him, and then mario shrunk down but still.

I always remember the bit just after you save Mario in Luigi's mansion 3 and Mario goes with you to confront King Boo. Luigi is shown to be basically the same as an average human but Mario's acrobatic talents are on full display here implying there's a big gap between their respective skill levels Mario even jumps out and scares Luigi a couple of times and seems completely unconcerned that Luigi can't match his acrobatic feats . Not really sure if it's a case for bad or good brother if either but that part has always stuck with me.
