I am not a brand snob but we have seen over and over that you get what you pay for. Our experience has been that most Medelis are ok when brand new out of the box - but keys stick and stop working after several months. Also saw problems with power supply and display screens. We no longer accept them in trade so you may only spend $779 for a new one now, but unfortunately within 2-3yrs you may be stuck with a broken completely worthless thing so you have really wasted ALL your money. We advise our budget-challenged customers to avoid the temptation of low end brands like Medeli Williams and Donner and to keep saving and wait for a good deal on a used or older model Yamaha/Korg/Roland that usually are reliable for 10+ years of service. Actually I guess I am a brand snob as I just hate to see people get throw their hard earned money away on junk

Great review, Jeremy See. Where I live (The Netherlands) the Medeli AKX10 is priced at €689. The Yamaha PSR SX600 is even cheaper, costing €615 only! But I’m actually convinced by your review that the Medeli would be a better option. Only downside are the built in styles that are lacking behind competitors. This is the case for any Medeli keyboard. Luckily it has the function to make your own styles.

I just contacted Sam Ash and the person I chatted with did not seem to think Sam Ash would carry the AKX10. I wrote to Medeli a few days ago but haven’t heard back. I will probably go with the Yamaha SX600.

It sounds very similar to a Yamaha PSR-2000/3000 and many features are similar. That isn't a bad thing, since Medeli has improved on that with a modern user interface, better polyphony and modern connectivity.

The price now is $899 from most places. Since there is very little support for the unit, I think it would be a risky buy. I do like some of the sounds on it, and the color touch screen looks good.

Posted this in two spots since i have seen so little in English on the AKX-10. Plus, Jeremy is king of all arranger reviewers, hands down. I just got this keyboard at Alto Music, Middletown NY. As most of you know, high end arrangers are in short supply due to Covid induced shortages. Wanted a PSR SX900 but took a shot with the AKX-10. My first impression is that the sounds are very good generally (listen here). That being said, I would give the stock acoustic pianos a B+ at most played as solo instruments, at least so far. Note, I am comparing this to my Kronos (not totally fair). The styles and combination sounds are very good, however. If you play The AKX-10 through a decent set of speakers (I had it going through my Presonus board to Yamaha studio monitors), it sounds fabulous. By common consensus, Its capabilities are off the hook but I have seen capable machines go unsupported and die. Hey, I took a chance. Just learning this unit and I am expecting perhaps to load other sounds. Nevertheless, at this price point it makes everything else I have heard sound pitiful. I traded a lowly Yamaha E463 (LOL) for this and the AKG-10 simply blows that out of the water in terms of sounds, capabilities etc. Yes, it is double the price of E463 but in terms of what is can do, it easily competes with the Yamaha PSR SX600/700 boards (see Jeremy See here for confirmation). Having the 7 inch touch screen alone is a joy at this price point. Speakers are very decent and probably suitable for background music in a small restaurant environment. Durability is the question. At $700 U.S., I am not too worried. Not saying anyone else should feel the same way, however. Finally, be aware the keyboard, as Jeremy notes, has no real ecosystem to support it at this point (help Jeremy!!!), so you are on your own for a bit. Finally, I went to Staples to print out the comprehensive (190 + page) and surprisingly well written online PDF manual to great benefit. It comes with a typical Quick Start PDF manual about 60 pages. John Roks and Jeremy See are the only people I have seen demoing this machine in English, so thanks guys. Best to all.

@@DS-pk4eh yamaha est une marque connue, les sons sont bons aussi après y'a moins de choses qu'avec le medeli pour un prix plus chère, on trouve le medeli chez thoman a 575€ sur le yamaha plus de style mais pas l'écran tactile 7" donc moins simple pour les menus et réglages, pas de Bluetooth, bien moins de mémoires, un amplification moins puissante, on peut convertir des styles avec le logiciel grandsuite mais ça peut moins bien sonner que lorsque le style a été créer pour le clavier , j'en ai converti quelques uns qui sonnent quand meme bien sur le medeli , c'est un choix personnel

Salut à tous. Bon, j'ai bien reçu le Thomann AK-X 1100 (Alias Medeli) voici mes observations : écran de 7', donc nettement plus grand et tactile que le SX 600, la registration est beaucoup plus simple à enregistrer que chez Yamaha , les sons sont en général assez bons dans l'ensemble, sauf les orgues de jazz, les sons d'orgues d'église sont bons, les rythmes sont de qualité, la caisse claire est une réussite incontestablement, le clavier me paraît fragile, et son toucher est moins bon que chez Yamaha, dans l'ensemble ce synthé arrangeur est supérieur au Sx600 et inférieur bien sûr au XS 900, qui coûte 3 fois plus cher quand même ! En conclusion le Medeli à rapport qualité-prix imbattable.

I saw your review of the Medeli AkX 10 and it looks like a great keyboard for the price. My question is: "Do you think it would be worth trading in a Roland Prelude towards the Medeli ? The Roland has 1453 sounds and I forget how many styles. I have a home studio and upload covers and originals to KZbin. I am not too happy with the support or expansion for this keyboard but do like many of the tones and styles. The Roland Prelude was released in 2010. Mine looks and plays like new, so I should be able to get a few bucks for it. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts about a trade in. Thank you for your time and any help you can provide. Trading in with whom? I don't think it is ever worth "trading in" high tech with a dealer. Maybe you can find a private buyer who will give you a low return, but not nearly as low as a dealer, who will either lowball you or jack up the price of the Medelli.

Sounds are very similar to Yamaha, probably the sound chips are Yamaha's or its Chinese copy. Some interface parts look like Korg's. So, it looks for me like a mule of Korg father and Yamaha mother.

@@1942nn yes it is and yes it’s a free download however there are some glitches with this keyboard operating system for example when you try to record your own styles as soon as you are on the fill part the whole keyboard freezes and you have to unplug it losing all you hard work, this makes me sad 😞

I just found out the AKx10 style creator has the Cmaj7 limitation allowing only those four notes to be used. So if you want a bass guitar walking bass in your style, you will only have the 4 notes, not the full 7 notes of the scale to create your bass-line. Deal breaker since I never use the stock styles and always create my own.

Cheaper to buy - yes. But.....do they use cheap components that will fail? What kind of support do they have? What do you do the first time you push the power button and nothing happens? Or a keys quit working. Are you going to be stuck with a dead keyboard you spent $699 on?

The Casio MZ-X500 has disappeared from virtually all world markets. It is an awesome keyboard (I have one) but there's no point to reviewing something that can't be bought anymore. Gearsluts and others have done a review of you're interested.

@@olivierchanteurfrancais2764 Thank you for your feedback. I also just got the AKX10 and cannot see in the menu any option to display scores and lyrics. In the specification sheet of the AKX10 on the Medeli Europe website there is a cryptic line which states "SCORE DISPLAY with APP ASSIGNABLE CONTROLLER". So it's not at all clear if there is some kind of keyboard internal or an external software application to do that. Medeli should clarify. I also tried the Bluetooth Midi. My PC with Bluetooth version 4.2 pairs with the keyboard, but there is no connect button so bluetooth midi does not work. I wonder if Jeremy may know about these issues.....

Nooooo…..I found this mainly sold on eBay. The price is very attractive, but the time for Yamaha to make a change with a new version of the PSR SX900 within a few months. Comparison to the the SX900 and x10 is Yamaha has double the styles, 5 times more memory to expand and styles and type in your own set list of your own arrangements. What the SX900 does not have is the fade in and out for song start and end. Is the price difference worth it? It depends on the individual player and buyer. The old saying is you pay for what you get. If money is a factor the the X10 is the better choice. The quality difference In what you can do as an arranger player the the SX900 is best. …finally we are at a time in 2022 where the SX will be discounted a few hundred dollars as evidence that Yamaha is about to do their upgrade changes. I plan to up grade yet I will be patient to see what Yamaha delivers this year. LED lights LOL, LED rope lights at Amazon 😄 Jeremy you are right on about comparing the lower Yamaha SX series. Price, lights soaker watt power, styles and overall comparison. I would question service and customer service as Yamaha is superior in customer service if needed. As for Genos price, we’ll as they say a fool and their money do part 😄😄😄😄Most of the time the only one who knows is the performer, the player and other players. As for the audience they don’t notice many of the difference between the instruments. What will Medeli come up with next to improve?

Very impressive sounds for the price and great demo Jeremy! These sounds are just as good, if not better than the sounds from YAMAHA PSR and Korg PA keyboards from a couple of years ago such as the PSRS950 or Korg PA600. What is the build of the instrument like compared to something like a Yamaha PSRSX600 or Korg PA600? Keep up the great work with your demos and reviews Jeremy!

I bought one. Actually, the sounds are not as good as the PSR S950. There are a number of voices that sound good and I use them to play parties. Positive: low price, high quality construction, more features than SX series and Genos which I also own. These extra features in AKX10 can be added by Yamaha to their keyboards via firmware upgrade but as usual, Yamaha hold off these features for next "generation" Playing KORG and YAMAHA for more than a decade, I agree that Medeli AKX10 will beat them IF the styles and voices quality get improved to be at least at PSR S970 level.

Hi Jeremy, it's your friend Ronnie Ross from Chicago...Hope all is well with you and your family...I have been enjoying my Medeli AKX 10 ever since I got in October of 2021....I do have a question about it I'm hoping you can answer....I having a problem recording more then "2" songs because it seems to run out of recording time...it just stops dead...it has had this problem ever since I got it....I follow each step on page#30, of the Quick Start Manual that came with the keyboard but I continue having this problem...do you have any ideas..I hope you can help..I will call the music center I got the AKX fron in Maryland, but I thought I would ask you first...I know you are busy but if you can take a moment to answer my comment I would be grateful....thank you so much for all the help you've given me in the past...I have mentioned you so many times to friends who now follow you on your channel...Take care, buddy and let me hear from you....God Bless.....

Hello Jeremy - I absolutely love your reviews and based on them - I bought the ez-300 & Medeli - Question- the 300 is loaded with songs as it is a teaching keyboard whereas the Medeli being a performing keyboard has hardly any songs - 3 I think - is it possible to midi the two in order to put the Yamaha songs in the Medeli? and a follow up -will you do a detailed video on every knob and button on the Medeli as you did on the PSR line of keyboards ?

Don't throw your CT-X away (or sell it) unless you hit the limitations of Medelis Style recording and MIDI Playback and are willing to deal with them or/and wait for further updates. At the Moment, with the FW1.3 there are quite improvements, but still far away from what you can do with the CT-X5000. That's what Jeremy missed in this video, and why there is much confusion about the AKX-10. I've made quite a lot of videos 'bout the AKX-X10 now. Maybe you wan't to check them.

Yes the Medeli Akx10 is quite an upgrade from the Casio CTX 5000. Jeremy makes anything sound good. But I'm sounding pretty good on my Medeli.

So I bought it. It's the biggest .. mistake I ever made with a keyboard. Yes it sounds good, but if Medeli don't update the OS and the Grand Suite, it is a junk keyboard. Why: 1. In the style editor, you have to stop the style to be able to change a sound/drum kit. It's not ok. But the worse, in Grand Suite, if you import, or try to edit a style THERE IS NO WAY TO LISTEN THE STYLE !!! No play to listen how it would sound with different patches (sounds). NO WAY. You have to export it as midi file (lucky me I work in Cubase and Protools from 20-25 years already), and there you may listen what sounds you may want. 2. Did anyone saw that you can't change ANYTHING but the volume in the keyboard mixer on Style? Really? Comparing to any other keyboard, this is the thing that should label this keyboard as "the fraud of the year". Maybe I want in LIVE to change the reverb level on the drums ? FOrget about it. Or the pan ? Nether. Or at list, to write the volume without touching the fader, with numbers, without the fader JUMPING to whatever point you may touch. Try to select the volume of any part of the style to modify it with the data knob... BANG ! The volume jumps to 120-127. Well done, you just ruined you live performance. 3. OH ! How happy I was that the Grand Suite exports maps for Cubase !!! OOOH.. and NOOOO. It does export. But only factory sounds. No User sounds/Drumkits in that list. WHAT ??? 4. It imports SF2. Well, for importing 10 files, I had to make 10 folders, and the make another project and load there the .voi made. Every importing makes folders and folders, and... big waste of time. 5. In the description, they wrote "audio and midi usb". Where is the audio driver??? Nether Cubase or Protools seems to see the Medeli as audio usb card. No way to record from it thru the USB !!! Fraud again. 6. Where is the song mixer and ... and everything is not there !!!! Let's say you work in Cubase some midi file. In the Medeli you can't see nothing in the song mixer. NOTHING !!! Except , like the style, the volume. No sequencer style, to select in play other sounds on midi channels, no way to adjust something in the keyboard without a DAW. Not even in song record mode, there is no way to change a sound on any midi channel ! 7. Style editor. REally? What editor ? First, you may "change" only from 9-16 channel. Well , I made styles that use 1-6 channels as minor chord definition, 9-10 perc drums, and 11-16 the major chord . So if I want to modify something on MINOR , well.. I can't. And what about editing only the note velocity and lenght ? In the event list this the only thing you can modify !!! No control change, no program change, NOTHING ELSE ! So all depends on the DAW and the midi file exported/imported. 8. Where is the forum? Where can I talk to other users, to leard and teach them things about the AKX10 ? There is nothing on the official site. NOTHING. 9. Comparing with SX or other PSR S series is a joke. You fooled me. 4 Insert FX shared between the upper/lower and the style ? WHAT ???? So messy to try to insert a compressor on drums , other on bass, a distorsion on a R1 guitar and .. there is only FX one left. WHat should I set it as FX4? Because is the last. Aaahh.. wait a second. How can we insert in a style an effect? You can't. You may try to change a Sound, but it will share the FX with R1-3/L And if I want other fx on the same sound in different style? You buy a Yamaha, not a Medeli. Should I write that in the Grand Suite, you may modify only CASM, tempo, Sound type, and QS1-4 on a style. Ahhh... no effect edit? Well, you can't play the style in Grand Suite, so there is no need to such options. The list is longer. Still, this is the biggest fraud on Keyboards I ever had. Have a good day.

it is certain that there are things improved by medeli, i hope they will I've had the keyboard for a few months and over time we find tips, such as putting wav sounds on the pad, it is possible by creating a sound with wav sounds on each note, to record with cubase or other software, it is possible using the asio all drivers, I think it's still a good keyboard for the price and all the functions it has, at thomman in germany the price is only € 575, a Yamaha keyboard with this price does not have all the functions

You may control în the style mixer : volume, pan, sends, even cutoff/resonance. Let's hope in March, they will release a major update.

Wow Mr. Jeremy See I just received my Medeli AK-X10 Keyboard and I have to say 1st this keyboard is awesome; I am basing it on your review., I am very impressed with the style and sound. The main thing I like is the touch screen. and for the price $799 , it is worth it unlike Yamaha $2200, BTW I still have the Casio CT-X5000 very pleased with it as well, I am a beginner. and want to play the Keyboard. thank you so much for the insight on these Keyboards.I will say it is heavy! but aside from that. Hello I bought a Medeli AKX10 keyboard. AKX10 don't have EQ for style tracks. Not even Pan. Why isn't this option in the mixing console? (Any arranger with higher espectations have this options) Or modify the effects of a style in the mixing console while I am playing live? I tried to edit a style, but it doesn't change the instruments in the style while it's playing, to be able to hear how it would sound. Is there a menu that I don't know? And in the Style editor, how can I see in the Event List more? It is shown only the note and the note lenght . COntrol Change are not shown. The Reverb send, the Chorus send, the volume.. program change.. I want to make the pan moving inside a track. How can I do that? How can I insert in a style, a program change? I need to change at half of a Main (Main C), to be other program change. How can I insert it in Edit Events? I have a Yamaha PSR A3000 Oriental. If I record a formula on Bass, Phs1 or 2, it's played as recorded. On AKX10 I can't even record it, because it only takes the C E G ,as C major chord. Other notes are recorded as Event edit shows, but not played. I try to put a line from my Yamaha PSR A3000 Oriental. THe Akx10 doesn't play the same line. Why? I try, exporting from Grand Suite, a style as midi file. And to edit it in AKX10. But in the song, it only have the option Delete or Quantize. How can I modify notes, or controllers? I am waiting for response from Medeli. Thank you.

You’re absolutely correct Jeremy regarding the Trinity Exam Syllabus, The Yamaha PSR E 473 unfortunately does not include the Fingered On Bass facility, as you are well aware inverted chords are very important in Grades 6 , 7 and 8. Thank you for a splendid review

At for instance 6 mins in, & elsewhere you are looking at Medelli, apparently. Ot has an appreciably sized screen which is normally not seen on a "$699" keyboard so that 'might be' the confusing aspect to you. Possibly you may have to re-"view" some parts twice to clarify (?) I'm new to this keyboard's look also.

One reason I like Yamaha arrangers is the user community to share ideas, files, sounds and styles, tools and help each other. I particularly love compatibility of sounds and styles. This Meledi may be cheap, being new will there be a huge user community. Are styles and sounds easy to make?

Jeremy could you please do a more detailed in depth review of the Medeli AKX10 highlighting how to get the best sounds out of this Arranger Keyboard? I am sure that many of your channel viewers and myself would love to see a video similar to the ones you did for the Yamaha PSR-E373 which showed us that keyboards great features. Until March, when Medeli said they will release a major update, the AKX 10 can't have any good review, because the keyboard is a mess and a lie. From Mixing style, edit style, to midi, even sounds. I have comment with details. If You want the AKX10 for sounds only, and You got good samples, it's ok. If You want to play live with styles, make your own styles, without knowing a DAW, forget about this keyboard. A short real review? Did anyone wrote that You can't modify the pan of an instrument from style, live? It can be done only in edit mode, and there, not even in play? You can't listen in play (editing the style) and modify something. And in live, You must be very precise when touching volumes. 1mm under the volume numbers and boooommm... The volume jumps to maximum. I have this toy keyboard. I know what i wrote.

@@florincminor you are right, I bought two of these on an impulse, but they also have a problem when you record your own user styles, the keyboard freezes a lot when you try to record the fill section, as for my samples it’s great since it comes with a little bit over 700 mb of ram memory.. I was able to store my sound from the Yamaha DX7, Roland D50, korg M1, my gabbanelli accordion, and other sounds that I use for Mexican music, but other than that has a lot of malfunctions, I’m hoping the upgrade comes soon otherwise I just spent 1500 dollars on both for nothing.

Hi Jeremy, I have to thank you for your great work. During the passed 2 weeks I watched some hundreds of keyboard demos & reviews from your and other reviewer and shop channels. My old Yamaha CP5 is probably still one of the best pianos but carrying 25 kgs is not at all funny for an old man. So I was looking for something easier and also with more contemporary features, sounds and operability. And - surprise, surprise! - after quite a few sleepless nights on YT I made my decision and ordered a "Thomann AK-X1100" which is a Medeli-built 1:1 clone of the AK-X10 but with slightly nicer design and even a nicer price. Since I'm not considering myself as a keyboarder but just a pianist I hope that the thousands of keys and knobs and functions etc. will not drive me completely nuts (old man, you know... 🤯) and that I will not miss the 88 keys with natural piano action too much.... Anyway, thanks again for your excellent work and support and all the best from Germany!!! 😁🤘

@@JeremySee UPDATE: After 3 days of intensive testing, I have now come to the conclusion that this keyboard unfortunately does not suit my needs for 2 reasons: 1. The mic input might be OK for karaoke once everyone has had enough alcohol, but not for more as it always sounds kind of artificial and tinny. 😖 2. The 61 keys are definitely not enough for me, because I would have to massively change my playing style. So I will return the Medeli AK-X10 (or the Thomann AK-X1100 respectively) and hope that I can get along better with a Yamaha PSR-EW425 and its 76 keys... 🤷🏽‍♂
