Hold on is that true? Very scummy that they try to do that. But no need to assume it’s fake accordingly. However, as long as it’s true, it’s still evidence. Maybe they hired a lawyer to make good counter evidence, or maybe they’re just lying. A lot of buissnessess try to cover up, and honey probably saw this coming. Anyways I don’t really know what to think abt this.

I’m not saying I disagree but just because a lawyer or anyone with authority is doing something, doesn’t mean they are in the right. There’s lawyers who have advocated for segregation, slavery, and malicious business practices after all. I don’t know much about all the lawyers filling the lawsuit, but considering they’re all KZbinr lawyers, this could also be an attempt to bring attention to their channels. Also, based on the videos I’ve seen, where each lawyer discussed their intentions, they don’t seem to be 100% privy in all the inner workings of the laws surrounding affiliate marketing. So they could very well be wrong, at least in the context of online business laws. Of course, I know nothing about them so don’t take anything I’m saying as factual or even based on a minuscule of evidence. I’m just saying that just because someone important is advocating for an argument, that doesn’t mean they are right. Regardless, what Honey is doing to content creators is definitely unethical, regardless of the legality of it.

Nah, this is just a huge nonsense burger Hello Partner is either being payed or "gently suggested" to write the article, or more likely, they know they can attract attention with a clickbaity title like that, and then spend the entire article trying to justifice the title, with a ton of unnecesary filler, for something that could easily be explained in a single paragraph But that's the news industry for you, and it clearly did get someone clicking on their website (you), but we appreciate you taking one for the team, so we know that there wasn't anything worth reading in the artcicle (if they actually had made a good point, people would obviously be rushing to share it for an opportunety to latch on to the popularity of this entire scandal)

So what they're defending is that Honey isn't a scam because the event of Mega lag video are just coincidence and that Honey should normally work fine but they also have no way to prove themselves right. "MegaLag was wrong, because Honey says they didn't do it. Well, not actually Honey, but some guy who we happened to find who used to work for Honey once, and has no idea what they're like now, but he said they didn't do it in the past, so that's basically the same thing, maybe. And what MegaLag showed happening doesn't actually happen. Except it does happen, sometimes, but, y'know, not _every_ time. And even if it does happen, it might theoretically not be that important. Maybe. And some random anonymous guy said he looked at stuff, and it looks OK to him, so that should be good enough, right? And their rewards aren't crappy! They're just _sorta_ crappy, sometimes, or a lot of the time, maybe, but who can say? We sure can't!" If it weren't so clearly serious, I'd be convinced this article was actually some sort of attempt at satire... Fortunately, because there's _an actual lawsuit_ about a bunch of this now, we won't have to keep guessing based on unidentified hearsay like this. Many of the facts about whether these things actually are or aren't happening, and how much, will be actually decided as a matter of law eventually. (Unfortunately, though, that could take a while...)

On the topic of the Honey Gold situation, Megalag wasn't (Unless I misremember) trying to say that the honey gold is 'lousy' but to compare that, in that situation, more money would have been made if he hadn't used honey. On the topic of the affiliate link situation, as well, while there are probably more complexities in how it works than Megalag described, that still doesn't change the blatant evidence given that honey DOES steal money from the creators that would otherwise be paid by the referral. Also, being paid for sponsorships while having the affiliate link from said sponsorship doesn't change the fact that they are still stealing (edit: I realized on my own that the part of the article I was referencing in my head doesn't mention this, but my point still stands). They are playing like they're robin hood: stealing from your favorite creators who already make money from the sponsorships that gave them the affiliate links, and claim to give you the "best coupons out there" and that "if honey doesn't find them, they don't exist" when they are very obviously rigged to give you the coupons they are being bribed to show you, if they even find any. Edit: even if we assume that everything I said is wrong: "WHERE DOES HONEY GET THE MONEY?"

Their entire argument is completely beside the point. Honey simply does not do affiliate marketing, because it does NOTHING to promote sales, so it should NEVER get a commission. The entire monetization scheme is a scam. The fair way would be to take a percentage of the money that it saves the customer. Find a coupon that saves 10%, give 8% to the customer and 2% to honey, win-win. But I guess that wouldn't be worth $4 billion...

Even if MegaLag is wrong, Honey should not exist as it currently stands and every single person who was affected by this “oops if it only happens SOMETIMES” deserves recompense. The article is claiming to not diss MegaLag or in support of PayPal Honey which is very centrist in stance. And while I understand it is good to remain neutral, I think in this case to remain neutral in this scenario is ultimately standing in FAVOR of PayPal Honey. This extension was PURCHASED FOR FOUR BILLION DOLLARS. And with that 4 BILLION DOLLARS, the PayPal Honey team worked to steal money out of affiliate’s back pockets. The money they use to pay their bills and feed themselves with. Accidental? Doesn’t matter. Face the actions of your consequences. The average person does! Why should this corporation and their team not face their consequences? Pay up.

What I find funny about this article; particularly where the majority of the claim is 'It doesnt aways do this so Megalag is wrong' ; Megalag *addresses* this already. Its in the later part of the video he states that sometimes the codes would actually work, and sometimes they didn't poach affiliate links. Megalag explains there's a reason for this, which is implied to be honey messing with businesses. So saying it only happens sometimes just lends to Megalag's claim as to *why* it only happens sometimes. This article just gives more credence to his point 😂

It's true that utm_ tags are for Google analytics. It's basically impossible to know what exactly the merchant site does to track affiliates. But if Honey had a kinda special relationship with the merchant, why would it still need to open "regular" affiliate links during checkout instead of triggering a special honey endpoint? Most merchants probably won't implement a special Honey endpoint, so Honey is treated like all other affiliates. So I still think it overrides way too much.

In the end all I got is that, 1. some sights and places have systems in place to stop Honey's practices sometimes, this is inconsistent though and Honey can still fuck with the purchase. 2. there is no explanation for the claims that Honey manipulates businesses and hides shit from consumers.

So Honey isn’t a scam yet Legaleagle is filing a class action suit against them? Ok, seems legit. Not

Oh the cherry-picked example of bananarepublic is very deceptive. Honey simply doesn't have it's own affiliate Link, so it can't apply one. That's why it tells the user to "tell them, that they want honey cash-back". If enough users do that, it'll be a DDoS-attack on the customer service of that page, essentially bullying the shop into a deal with honey. Nice try though. Almost fell for it.

I know exactly why KZbinrs pushed it. They 100% knew that honey took their “revenue” away. But they get paid shit for their affiliate codes/links accepting a Honey sponsor gave them more in a shorter length of time Than the less in a longer length of time they’d get from affiliate codes
