Thanks for this! I know that the GH6 is definitely far superior in terms of video specs/features compared to the OM1. But I’m still really curious to see a comparison between these 2 cameras for just basic 4k 24p or 60p, since the OM1 now has 10bit internal vs 8bit on the older models. 10bit internal with reliable autofocus on a m43 system sounds very ideal to me! But the GH6 & the OM1 would be a great pairing imo, for anyone already invested in the m43 system. Just my thoughts!

Hi Dave, thank you for your splashy video! Quick and straight forward! I have one important question. I now own a few Lumix M4/3 cameras (GH5, G80) and Papa lenses. Am about to purchase GH6 or OM-1, but need good autofocus as I am a 'one man band' Vlogging and conducting interviews at exhibitions (Run & Gun type of videos) where there is little time to adjust settings, etc.I With my GH% I am often not in focus as well as the person I interview. Sometimes the sensor is even focussing on faces behind me. With in mind my Panasonic and Sigma lenses, from your experience, do you advise me to buy the OM-1 or continue with Panasonic GH6? Wil the AF be enough for run and gun shooting (Vlog style)? I don't care about shooting 5.7 K though.... and ending up with gigantic files on my computer though...Please advise..

You would absolutely love the OM-1 based on everything you said there. I’d even argue you could buy an older EM1 mkii and enjoy it for a fraction of the cost. I personally will be picking up the OM-1 because the autofocus is so good.

I own Gh5 and Em-1 mk ii. I use one for video and second for stills for my freelance work. I was really exited for the new Om-1 and gh6 because I want to upgrade and to have one hybrid camera that can do both. Gh6 missing AF and Om-1 better video specs. I need to wait for some more test and reviews

I have the Gh5 and want to upgrade to another m43 body. Om-1? Hmmm. I have the Panasonic 100-400mm tele. And, I from what I hear my Pany 100-400mm stabilization won't work with the Om-1 body. The Oly 100-400mm isn't as fast as the Pany. and don't really want to sell my Pany 100-400mm and then have to spend 7.5k on the 150-400 Olympus tele lens in order to upgrade that also. Thoughts?

Interesting predicament! I’m sure the Panasonic lens will still function pretty well with OM systems stabilization and you’ll get way better autofocus. The best solution would maybe be to use Olympus glass but honestly m4/3 does work well together. Even though you won’t have IS… ibis is so amazing

@@davidaltizer Your comment is encouraging to me. On my channel I mostly use 2 GoPro cameras while walking along teaching. Then I use my Gh5 with Olympus prime lenses and the Pany 100-400mm for B roll. I really like the Om-1 and missed out on some once in a lifetime footage of a mountain goat close to me as the sun was coming up because of poor focusing on the GH5 and I don't want that to happen again. Of course! Ya this whole video was shot on the EM1 mkiii in 4K with full autofocus. It’s totally competent and the OM-1 autofocus is competitive with Nikon Sony and canon in terms of speed and reliability! So sorry you missed out on that moment! That’s terrible! 😞

I have to disagree. The 300 fps samples I've seen, while not as good in IQ as the other modes, is pretty good if you're shooting in optimal conditions with the right subject matter.

@@davidaltizer I had a GH5 and loved it. I manually focused so auto focus was not an issue. I have the OM-D EM-1 Mk II (thanks to you) but I am very interested in the OM-1 for the 60 fps and improved AF.

If I could but in to the conversation here and offer thought about related follow up content, the situation for Panny M43 users like me, is that if we really want top quality AF then we need to move to APS-C or FF… or now OMS. There is plenty of comparative content on the merits and offerings among the FF and APS-C cameras, but not yet OM1. So the question I have is, if I were to get an OM1 as a complement to my G9, what am I losing by not going to a GH6 if my content creation ambitions extend to KZbin and some commercial work (eg interviews) rather than Netflix? Based on what I read and see about GH6, it is amazing (other than AF) but realistically I don’t want to be spending thousands of $ buying CFExpress cards to harness the benefits of top level modes and codecs. The DR Boost looks great… but given the min 2000iso, it means a lot of $ also needs to be spent on ND filters to optimise the images for video. So this is where the overall cost of buying into the GH6 system starts to look pretty expensive (even if one owns Panny lenses). Most reviews tend to focus on the camera, but I think that the holistic system costs (and benefits) need to be better understood. One final observation: the GH6 image quality really seems to have improved a lot with the 25mp sensor. Bokeh to one side, it really seems to have matched APS-C and is close to FF. ProAV’s Carl says is it a match with the DR boost function (in many situations)! Interesting times for M43! Cheers.
