I suspect Rice's back went somewhere around that time and it was that that caused the sudden shift (along with the natural, we scored so they got fired up as they HAD to score now). I was confused at first, then when i realised Rice was injured it was a case of, if he had to take Rice on a bring on Jorginho, he probably felt he needed to bring on Havertz for a bit more physicality to stand any chance of fighting against their midfield.

i think artetas plan was to 100% go for the 3-2-2-3 formation with rice and either zinchenko or partey as the 2 holding players then havertz and odegaard as 2 number 10’s but alot of the time they’ve had to shift to a back 4 and then u have havertz and odegaard doing alot of defensive work which isn’t their best ability. As a liverpool fan im just so glad we got szoboszlai before city or arsenal did, he’s naturally played in that 10 position but he’s also good enough defensively to play as an 8 which is exactly what arsenal need in that havertz position right now

I completely disagree on the depth issue of Spurs. I think Spurs finally have competent depth in almost all positions. Not at CB really although Davies can always play in there and I’m not sure what Phillips can be about. GK injuries aren’t the most common but maybe Lloris would get integrated back if need be. The Maddison depth isn’t great for sure but if Ange likes Lo Celso, like he’s said he does, maybe he can start to play like a player that was starting for the world champions. But in almost all the other positions they have solid depth. Dier is obviously somebody we want to move on from but if he truly has to play, then it is what it is, and hopefully he isn’t full of mistakes.

Last season we were very fortunate to have a mostly fit team for the majority this season. At no point this season have we been able to field what most of think is a first 11. Gabriel wasn't fit the first few games so partey had to go right back. Then Partey is out so we cant play partey odegaard and rice. A fit first 11 is a better version of last season

There are 114 points possible in the premier league. They have already dropped 4 ( 2 draws). Man city got 89 points last season. They can lose 21 points and get 89 points. If arsenal loses both of their games to mancity, they can only drop 15 more points. If they draw both they can drop 17 points.

We do have a lack a depth. If our first and a second choice DM is injured, our third choice one is a bit of an issue. I don't think Jorghino is meant to be providing depth as a combative DM. His meant to come on when a game is controlled to keep that calm and control. His not meant to be playing as the main DM in a live derby match. Arsenal basically just need to stop getting stacking injuries. For some reason whenever we get injuries, they all seem to happen in the same area cluster. Last season it was Tomiyasu then then Saliba. If it had just been Saliba it wouldn't have been as big an issue, because Tomi would play right back and you could move Ben White into that RCB slot and whilst yes, he isn't Saliba, he would have done far, far better then Holding. This season we have got Partey and then Rice (whilst also getting Martinelli AND Trossard basically taking our first and second choice left wingers out of the game)

We struggle to create clear chances, and when they do present themselves we don't finish them. I saw this coming towards end of last season. It takes too much effort for this team to score goals. Arsenal lost for 2 reasons. 1. They are currently without any attacking threat down the left, which means you lose a lot of dynamism from the team. No proper options, especially against Porro who is a strong RB, and Kulusevski/Sarr who are supporting there. 2. More importantly, Arsenal fail repeatedly this season to exert themselves down the middle of the pitch. Width becomes meaningless, there is no tempo, noone dictates the game for them at all. Rice is not good enough to do that because he is overrated, albeit solid, Partey is way better at dictating games from 6. Bissouma dictates a lot from his position, as a 6 should. Let Zinchenko play 6. Defensively sound, distribution and tempo good, can take duels. Poor sight from Arteta.

No reason not to use Reiss Nelson on the left over Jesus, who should've been in the middle. Nketiah had no place in this match and the moment I saw him and Jesus starting together I knew our left handed side would be totally useless. And I agree with Rice not being on Partey's level yet. He failed to dictate this game, and he needs to improve his passing range. Thought Zinny did well against Spurs, he just didn't have his usual support on the left side of the pitch and was a bit nullified.

It is clear that with the purchases that Arsenal did this summer that Artetaus wants to play Guardiola ball, but it is also like he doesn't get why Guardiola's system works. Rice is meant to be the Rodri of the team, but rice has nowhere near the passing and technical skills which is what makes Rodri so effective. Havartz is meant to be the Bernado Silva, especially with the positions he has played Harvarts in. Regarding the mistake by Jorginho, I do have some sympathy because the team was high up the pitch. However, Arsenal almost always play the ball long after a kick off, and you'll see it the start of every game. Clearly, there was a miscommunication on the field.

Watching Pre Season I could see Arteta was trying to evolve the way Arsenal play football to compete with Citeh. I knew it would be a transitional season and they would not challenge for the league. Arsenal are still in their growth stage. They have a better chance of winning the champions league than BPL.
