“Is Minecraft getting too good?” This kind of thinking has held Minecraft back for 15 years. EDIT: For those of you reading this who feel the same, a friend and I recently got into a game which has very much not been held back by this kind of thinking, called Vintage Story. And it seems to be everything Minecraft always should have been. Highly recommend checking it out.

I’m talking about the core game. Just like in politics, some people are simply terrified and resistant to basic, common sense change, and will come up with insane convoluted arguments to oppose anything. There was a time when a huge segment of the Minecraft community opposed the addition of Smooth Lighting, claiming it didn’t feel “Minecrafty” like the old blocky lighting. Or players who claim some of the vanilla terrain should remain dull and uninteresting because they claim it somehow makes the more interesting terrain more special. This type of mentality has been a chronic problem in the Minecraft community for well over a decade. @@clonewars

oh, yeah that's true i was just looking at it from a bigger picture & including the modding scene; the core game itself has definitely been tied down by its 'core philosophies' that really only exist so as to not piss off people who've been playing minecraft for over a decade and expect it to always stay the same. this is partially why the game went stagnant for the better part of ~5 years until it caught on again in 2019. based on what this video visualizes, and what modern GPU's can provide, it's tragic that we don't have official & convenient ways of experiencing what the game COULD be: grand & realistic terrain generation, huge draw distance, and life-like shaders. so i agree@@Nephelangelo

Minecraft is in a conundrum where basic things like vertical slabs and chairs are considered to be “Not Minecraft” or “Against the values of the game” while something like the Sniffer is A-ok

they're using Tectonic in this. it might be using a combo of Tectonic and TerraForged but that definitely is not TerraForged terrain generation and it looks more similar to the super sized terrain of Tectonic.

This is exactly why I absolutely love Java, amazing people coming together to create these beautiful things and we get to enjoy them for free. No big cooperation behind it that wants to squeeze every Euro from you. The Minecraft Modding community for Java is incredible, so sad that Mojang/Microsoft dont really want Java around and prefer Bedrock and only see it as a kids game but this shows it is so much more.

@@FoXMaSteR001 Sorry I havent installed it myself. But there should be some info on the Distant Horizons Discord. From quickly looking, it looks like 1.20.1 & 1.20.4 are the ones that are currently mainly used. Not sure if there is a 1.19.4 Iris version that works with DH right now.
