Agree...all us visitors from the West go on about how cheap it is in comparison but forget that for the average person from Moldova, its not cheap and life is still hard and salaries are a joke...I loved the country and great people, but I tried to respect that when I was there and was conscious of it. Well if you manage to nad an international remote job it's actually quite good to live there, real biological food in the central market, low prices but a very European atmosphere in the country, for an older generation that doesn't speak English and can't do that or people who don't have the skills it's not so good.

@@artisriga I dont think the comment was about whether it is good to live there or not, it was about the perception of how cheap it is depending on where you come from and the resources you have available. I agree totally about the real food and how you can find fresh produce in markets at good prices and the atmosphere, I could happily live there myself. I live next door now in Romania, which I now call home and its the same, you can find great food and produce etc, but you are always conscious of being ostentatious etc as its all relative.

Yes it is! You can buy a house in a village with just 10000 pounds (but not in a village near to Chisinau). Fresh air there, natural fruits and vegetables, you will have your own big garden, a cellar. But it will be hard to accommodate there.

We were in Moldova for 4 days. And 3 more in Transnistria. Moldova is really cheap. I agree. I'd want to mention that the food in Transnistria is just amazing, in Cisinau is also good. I'll only want to admit one thing: people aren't friendly... At all. As an Armenian, who always treats tourists great, I was a bit shocked (The difference is I understand Russian, my boyfriend doesn't.). Whenever I asked something to strangers, they either didn't answer, either had a very rude tone. Same in Transnistria. Especially the drivers. The younger generation was a bit more friendly, but honestly the whole stay seemed sad just because of the way people treat you there. (Excluding the hotel staff and the drivers we hired to take us to some local monasteries.) Moldova has a lot of things to offer, but for me what matters first is the atmosphere, and unfortunately I didn't really find it friendly... (Please, don't take this personal. It's just how I saw and felt during my trip there. Maybe I was unlucky.)

Well, you could also mention that in Moldova the average salary is about 250$ per month (202£), with a quick google search you will find that we are the most alcoholic country in the world and not the cheapest but the poorest country in europe. Yes, our internet speed is very good, for a comparation based on my experience our H+ is faster than the 4G in France and our 4G is also faster than their home wifi. The prices from the restaurants are so big because you are in the capital, in a nice village you will get a pizza for about 50-65 lei (not 80). Overall you can for sure have a good life here with your salary, but with the 250$ salary people are barely living, the only ones that are living good either have some siblings in countries with higher salaries that are helping them out or they do some not so legal side jobs (most of the people here avoid paying taxes tbh). Per month, an average family that lives in a village is paying about 1k lei (60$) on electric and gas bills, but if you will need to pay rent anywhere in the capital you will need to get out of your pocket a minimum of 100$, but a fairly good place is about 200$ a month besides the gas, water and electric bills. Also the clothes have ± the same prices as in France

That is the reality everywhere. In my city ( Austin Texas), our salaries are very very high, one of the highest salary cities in the world. But at the same time, our cost to live here is crazy expensive. to rent a small apartment here it costs 20000 leu each month...for a nice apartment, maybe 30000 leu a month. To buy even a very small house here costs 10,000,000 leu.

There are very nice resteraunt where you can get a feast for $14. However there are also ones we've been to that cost $50 but that $50 is something that in the USA would be $300. Then hotels are cheap. The only thing I don't like so far is transportation. We have to take taxis just about everywhere but taxis congregate in city center so if you go to out skirts or out of town good luck getting a taxi back.
