Morocco. North Africa. I had been looking forward to this trip for awhile, and I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. I tried to learn Arabic more than a decade ago back when I lived in Lebanon, but what little I remembered didn’t seem to help much here! Morocco was the land of the Berbers, and this would be a whole new adventure.
I decided to start my journey in the most Moroccan city of them all: Fez, a city famous for it’s huge classical medina market area. Of course, I’m not very good at being a conventional tourist, so I decided to wander off the market path in search of Mahia, a local Jewish Moroccan moonshine. And my strategy for avoiding hustlers…well, how often do they see a foreigner speaking to them in Darija, eh? Yalla!

@@benjismith593 Morocco practiced isolation as much as possible from the west(Europeans), and from the East(turks) they became a protectorate of the french and spanish for only 40years half of them spent conquering tribes refusing the European presence, so they kept a lot of their culture and aspects of life, that's why it's interesting. Algeria is also interesting, as it's very different and had a very different history, they were conquered by the turks for 400years folowed imediatly by 130 of French colonization, in wish it was an integral part of France and a very Europeanized society with modern infrastructure and new cities and massive Cathedrals built by the french so it's very different from Morocco but still very interesting,

Sabbatical, you're my guy! Been watching this channel for a while now from the comfort of my home in London. I'm originally Algerian and I never thought you'd explore North Africa for some reason. Bro while you're there, you should catch a plane across the border to Algeria once you've finished touring the rest of Morocco and it's beautiful landscape. The people of Morocco are so nice and the culture is so amazing. Try and find out about the Amazigh if you can, they hold the key to a lot of history and the knowledge of that moonshine you were looking for. If you do head over to Algeria, hit Oran first as it's closest to the Moroccan border. Unfortunately you have to take a plane as the border is closed for cars etc because of political tension (it's a shame 😮‍💨)! Keep on doing your thing bro, it's really inspiring to see 👊🏼💪🏼🙏🏼
