Is Multiversus Beyond Saving?!

Multiversus should not be a game i’m on my channel to complain about, I know it’s kind of beating a dead horse at this point with what the rampant gaming outrage channels pitchforking over the game’s diabolical monetization and while that’s a problem i’ll get into it’s not really my focus with this video! Instead I'm Here to discuss the numerous failures that lead from Beta To launch and how Multiversus should not have launched in this state. I hope we can #SaveMultiversus with this video...

It is my personal opinion that moving to unreal 5 was unnecessary and pretty much ruined the game on so many levels i wish they just kept updating the beta instead

If I remember correctly people have said that you can directly port unreal 4 projects to unreal 5, so the argument that "Changing the engine was the cause for all the missing features from the beta" is invalid. I personally think those were all executive decisions from WB. Porting the game to unreal 5 was a good decision, but it's likely WB and PFG used the change as a scapegoat for the removed features.

⁠​⁠@@surrealmeme8344 definitely not invalid. yes, you can import assets/projects from ue4 to ue5 but that doesn’t mean it’s going to work off the bat. some of those assets need to be redone or changed altogether so its supported by the new engine, hence why some people feel that game feels different. a bunch of the missing items were found in the game files anyway, so its there, its just being optimized.

I don’t understand how you have a basically unlimited possibility of a roster and you make a game that discourages you to get the fun of the roster. This game could have ben 10, Elmo, Freedy Kruger, Audrey tombs, static shock, samurai Jack, DAMN WICK AND BOOMSTICK FROM DEATH BATTLE IF THEY TRULY WANTED TO, osmosis jones and thrax, Austin powers, Johnny bravo, Kevin 11, dio maybe, Gandalf, Sauron, if they wanted to Mike Tyson from that adult swim show, Jackie Chan, scorpion or any mortal kombat character. (In particular Johnny cage so we can say hey this character just got nut punched) and that’s just from the top of my head there’s probably more I’m not thinking of I want it to succeed

And instead of feeding it properly and milking it slowly and periodically, our farmer(WB execs) is trying to milk this cow dry before it has even had a chance to fully develop. Firstly, losing your stuff would immediately be enough to make me say "f this game" too. Thankfully I think I only lost Finn as an unlock but all my skins were safe. Why Finn was lost for so many people is beyond me. Secondly, I love MVS, I agree with PFG's decision to slow the game down but I also agree immensely with this video. I think you're the first person to bring up the Rested Bonus, and we need to advocate to bring it back. Modern events like grinding out 75 character levels over 3 days for a paltry 100 gleamium was fucking disgusting. Or the even more recent Top Dog Challenge that gave you a shitty badge for just having the most playtime. I shouldn't have to log in every day to get the most out of the battle pass. After reading Jason Schreier's exposé on S-Squad: "hurt" the Justice League I'm convinced WB put their grubby fingers all over this game and I get sad on behalf of Tony. I doubt he wanted this mobile game bullshit in this game, and I think PFG has been fighting with their publishing arm to get things like BP XP per match back. Yet, Tony being the figurehead, he's taking all the heat. As a diehard fan, I love this game's combat way more than Smash, I feel like this game is going to die and I don't have a lot of faith that it'll make it to its 2nd year of development. Unfair progression, challenges that require specific characters or cosmetics regardless if you own them or not, predatory pricing like the lowest tier bundle only giving 450 gleamium when the cheapest skin is 500, no local queuing, all characters locked for local play, being online only, no silly queue the list literally goes on. I want to love this game again, I want to defend Tony but we need a massive tidal wave of criticism and decreasing player counts to pull whatever WB executive's head out of their ass to show them Tony's original vision from the beta was more fair and profitable. I was more than happy to buy the founder's pack at beta because I felt like my time was respected, I was earning new fighters at a decent rate and gold was a fair currency that could be spent for perks, characters, icons, or banners and was rewarded at a solid rate. I want to play more, but after I finish my dailies I log off as a mini sign of protest. Subtracting one more player of their concurrent player count after 20 minutes of play. Do I think we can save Multiverses? Probably not but I hope we can anyway.

Thank you for a level headed response. My vid is definitely a bit inflammatory, but it's out of love! I personally talked to some devs and esport folk on MVS. This game means a lot to me I also enjoy it more than current ultimate (when it works) but I really do not want it to go out like this! The protest ur doing is pretty solid, log in quick hop off quick and once changes are made we get back to playing!

Tbh, we all know the characters people want are Mortal Kombat, Cartoon Network, and DC characters after those no one really cares any other characters. The amount of people i know who want Ben 10 and Samurai Jack in the game is crazy. I think they underestimate the massive catalog of CN characters they should be adding, hell ive been pining for Mordecai and Rigby. They need to be careful adding too many Looney Tune and Hanna-Barbara characters because although they're iconic they really aren't that popular amongst the age of the audience that plays the game.

whats even more funny is that certain lvls in the rift wont be available on later rift chapters which locks the boss kill count to 15 once chapter 5 becomes available till july 10 and even if all the lvls were availble, would only get 25 boss kills total, cant even finish the whole agent smith rift challenge which requires 30 to finish to get the other skin variant of agent smith smh

the progression system is the exact same as Payday 3 at launch, no xp for just playing missions or play well, you were forced to complete achievements with increasingly demanding tasks and/or weapons and playstiles. Characters should just be free, like it is a game with a massive skin model, idk why they need to charge for characters too. Character Unlock tickets should be refunded and turned into costume unlock tickets and bam a lot of the monetization issues are fixed, it still be praying on people but it be a lot more manageable. I'd prefer if they just gave up on being an F2P game and released this as a 60 dollar game and released new versions or season passes of DLCs or whatever but ya know.

I'm actually all for free to play fighting games, it's just that no AAA dev has done the model correctly sadly. The only dev to handle F2P fighting games well is the Killer Instinct team back in 2013 (who kicked off the season pass model for fighting games btw) They released the game for free with a rotation of 2 fighters, and the purchase for all 8 during season 1 was 10-20$ at the time. They did subsequent season up until season 3 which costed a total of 30$ for the lowest tier. It's a amazing model most modern FG devs have taken and corrupted imo. I really would not be ok with spending 60$ on a game of this quality with all of it's issues. (i'm barely ok with spending 60 on most modern FGs ngl XD). I love F2P because the buy in is low which means more people get to play fighting games which I love! I just need devs to look at the KI model again and attempt it, while giving players other things to purchase like cosmetics (costumes/music etc) to boost purchases. It would be a perfect middle ground imo

I actually understand no ranked at launch. Balancing issues, Iron giant legit removed from the game, and a total refresh of how the game even feels. And maybe im the odd one, but I actually think the pace actually benefits 2v2, and wish 1v1 was specifically faster. Otherwise the game needs work quick.

Thank you for talking about the fighter currency grind, it's weird how few people are mentioning it, especially since new players only have like 2 characters to start with. The only reason people aren't complaining about Perk Currency is because beta players are sitting on hundreds of thousands of it, which for new players is a big fat 0. The currency grind is awful. P.S. Mojo Jojo's laser has only ever targeted me in my matches and costs me the match without fail it's absolute horseshit.

Here's the things I hate about Multiversus Rift Mode: *Needs to have certain characters in order to get diamonds to level up your gem perks. *No retry button when you fail the level *Needs a friend online and no couch co-op *The tank minigame is impossible to beat solo *Specific missions are very scummy as you have to buy instead of grinding :/

Such a good video man, I knew for certain I had a wayyy bigger chunk of the cast in the beta than I do now and unlocking characters beforehand was way easier I just didn't quite remember if that was true. I am having a decent amount of fun with the full release but if they don't improve upon things soon and add FUN characters at a decently fast rate I think it's just going to die again unfortunately.

Well, you're right. I never played the beta so I downloaded the new version and played it for about a day , unlocked superman and found out he really wasn't for me so I play more to unlock a new character but after a few hours I saw that it was to grindey and gave up all together and never played the game ever since the launch.

I can't even get that mad at the all of the progression crap because the game still just feels like ass to play. Attacks still lack proper collision, much less a satisfying sense of impact, and way too many moves are still safe on whiff. I see one of two things happening to Multiversus: WB either kills it for a tax write-off or takes it offline permanently in favor of an offline SKU to recoup costs.

Something I really don't like about full release multiverses is how bad the perk system feels, because at the very least when you picked perks in the last one the only thing that affected your character personally was their personal perk, it felt like there was so many team builds and fighting styles that you could have had in the open beta when they had three different projectile perks you could equip on a character like Gizmo and that be his entire fighting style is just having to deal with projectile base, but now it forces every player to do the exact same or at the very least stuck within this rigid framework where obviously there is customization but nowadays you don't get any video game released without customization so can we really say that they improved upon the perk system? Especially with the individual character leveling, I had played the open beta so like I have all of the extra currency and had enough prestige points to get that rare Garnet emo as soon as I saw that I could because she's one of my mains, but losing Kryptonian skin sucks because I would run that alongside snowball and shock and garnets signature where if you or your ally shocked an enemy it would build a level of garnet's personal buff and it was a really fun way to play Garnet because just that little extra bit of defense team wide made garnet stay in long enough to last about as long as a tank, My team and I as long as we played well or especially when I was playing with my friends and we had a plan, we would always have opponents getting shot and it was a good counter to some of the more mobile ones, and having snowball on there just helped even more considering she's a bruiser character, so when My friend would play Superman, my perks that I had equipped alone made Superman more of a threat than what he had already been in the beta and so the enemies would either focus on him to either deal with him or get away from him and they would just ignore me it was awesome

@@YungFalconGG something I had a ball with was equipping both off the jump and fall speed perks and the normal one to Tom and Jerry because of how fast they already moved, I was super surprised by the amount of mobility I had given myself and it let me place Jerry and use my tennis ball shot a lot easier so I started relying on that perk a lot more and that became a really fun build to use

There also isn't much of a visual upgrade. If anything, it's a downgrade stylistically. The UI looks more like Fortnite, the character icons have regressed from beautiful dynamic art to unlit 3d renders, the ready up screens now have characters separated in a void, even in doubles, and the gameplay just looks cheap. I'm sorry, but I would expect even a bit of dynamic lighting and for a 2024 game to look on par with Smash Ultimate, a game that is almost 6 years old released on what is widely considered to be outdated hardware. When the characters are lit the exact same with the same circle shadow on Townsville vs. Scooby's Haunted Mansion, something's wrong. It's baffling to me just how many people (including some of my friends) wave away the issues with the monetization because it's clearly so closely integrated into the gameplay loop. You need to sink $10 for each new fighter if you don't want to grind, leveling up gems is a random coin toss that you can eliminate by buying experience, missions locked behind characters/skins/traits, etc. Hell, there's a dedicated right stick press that immediately takes you to buy gleamium, it's ridiculous how entrenched this game is with microtransactions. I'm not even going to get into rifts having purchasable lives in harder difficulties, this isn't an arcade game.

Friends and I were excited for the game again it was rough in beta but we had hope, and it seemed like it was gonna be good until on day 3 when one of us couldn’t even join a custom match and the rest of us would be kicked back to lobby after halfway through And the fact that you don’t get level ups or anything from custom fights (even though you don’t get access to anything but your current characters) sucked a lot, none of us wanted to play online we have enough to just play together with multiple small groups but we all uninstalled once we noticed how egregious the monetization is PLUS PLUS we all chose characters during the beta before quite a few were even added yet and you don’t get a reset for your currency or characters and we all only had the exact same characters from years ago with no way of getting any new fighters

I mostly avoided all of that PvE stuff as it's very repetitive and simply not fun, coming from a roguelike player, and I get that PvE helps you unlock new characters and do the missions or whatnot but at this point it's more fun to just play casuals until you get enough currency to buy the characters that you really want to play

for me my number one issue is the delay ad laggyness of the game its not fun, it should've have region servers me base on SEA playing a players reside on NA with a delay is not fun, and I think that is the same feeling as my opponent. It is very very rare to me to have a same players who are in the same region as me with not laggyness or delay when playing a match. Same as you I'm more focus on the 2v2 mode like what the devs is catering for this game. And yes I have the same feeling as you that I cannot pinpoint out what's the problem with this game. But as of right now writing this one since the release it has too many redflags this game presented to us and it's a bad sign, I'm already thinking at some point if the unknown issues that we cannot pinpoint at this game it will affect it and eventually shuts down. And I have no faith with former Riot devs since I know that they are slow in addressing some of the concerns of their games mainly the LOL since it is always known that they prioritize new characters then to selling new skins instead of addressing the technicalities of their game. Just look at their engine for LOL it is ancient at this point. At least Valve DOTA 2 game had a new engine source 2 when they transitioned to that in 7.00 patch making it the first game to use their newly created engine followed by Alyx VR Half-life game then the recent CS2 entry in that franchise. (BTW Dota 2 was made and running on Source 1 engine before 7.00 path release)

I agree with the complaints about the monetisation system but IMO the gameplay at its very core is good and has a lot of potential. There are definitely balancing issues and lag + desyncs aren’t uncommon but I feel like the gameplay foundation and feel of the game is actually pretty good. Call me delusional but I’m still hopeful about the game’s future especially since PFG (for all their faults) are clearly invested and passionate about this project, having a lot of patches is not a bad thing whatsoever. Patience, understanding and constructive criticism from content creators is what will help this game survive, not doomsday predictions

Im so glad I played a lot during the beta and unlocked everyone I had no idea how insanely hard they made it to get characters that on top of no ranked no co op and no leaderboards I give this game 6 months before its dead

I had already done the grind in the beta so I had a ridiculous amount of perk currency at launch and almost all of the fighters unlocked so I have no use for fighter currency

It's honestly a mystery that they didn't keep the game up like Fortnite or DBD and change the engine in the backstage then release it in a huge update (like you said.) DbD literally had a quick support team that would actually communicate when you reported a bug, the engine from what I've seen has been ironed out in the matter of weeks (In quick hotfixes/patches mind you) with a few issues but not as much as MVS. My main grudge is the huge amount of tiny problems they take "years" to fix, I'm surprised we didn't get a huge patch or day one hotfix but we got these little baby patches with some small great changes and huge amounts of store changes for the past few weeks. Like I dont care at all about the $100 gleamium bundle just fix the game

They're rolling things out like this in an effort to build "good will" back with its strange playerbase instead of just releasing a finished product and improving upon it. Man I have a love hate relationship with this game I hate the grinding I hate the fact it’s difficult to unlock characters is my main hatred I hate having wait walls for something. But I love this game for potential I love the game for gameplay to me sure it can be buggy and stuff but the combos feel clean each character has so much thoughts put into there movesets. And the roster minus black Adam and lebron James like why did they add them and even maybe bannana guard even though he has grown on me is good and fun for its size and it will only expand hopefully bringing so many new characters that makes the game limitless from uncle ruckus from the boondocks to static shock to Elmo to Freddy Kruger we could have so much. I hope they fix the issues and add more characters because this game has potential wb just needs to stop being greedy and give fans what they want. Don’t rely on crummy business practices give the people who want to spend the money a reason don’t force them to. Comparing the game's feel with smash four is perfect because with the lack of hitstun and the abundance of rolling and air dodging, and the fact that there's no shields or grab for that RPS mechanic, the game felt like smash 4 Rivals of Aether.......... that is NOT a good thing. I think my main issue with this game is how it focuses solely on the online experience and all this live service and monetary shit that local play is pretty abysmal, especially in the beta. I will never forget when this game first came out and I played it with my cousin who actually was really into this game, and we were planning on playing on the same computer and just fighting bots with each other, only to quickly find out that you CANNOT do that. Yes, despite being a mechanic that's been in every platform fighters since SMASH SIXTY FOUR, you cannot fight cpus locally with a buddy, because the game is so focused on online play and competitive, even though there's no ranked. Say what you will about Nick and it's failure, that was a game that even at its lowest with the first game you could still just hop in with a couple of people locally, whether that be your friends or family, turn on items, go on a couple of wacky but fun levels like the Hey Arnold and Rugrats level, and just mess around and genuinely have fun with this goofy cartoon fighting game. Even with the second game where it doesn't even have any good casual levels, it still has this in mind, and with that game's amazing gameplay, I not only had a blast playing competitively, but for the first 2 months I didn't even touch online and just played the game for the single player content for weeks if not months.
