Thanks for the e-mail.. As said, the best is to have the tree in the microclimate as long as it manages to be there without the rot starting, hence trees can not techincally suffocate like a human or animal could..

My leaves are becoming really dry and now bits are falling off. However the bottom of the tree is a very dark colour. I know the cause is a few days of no watering. I really don’t know what to do as I’ve been keeping the soil most every single day yet the colour is still not right! Can you please advise? I really wish this tree can be saved but dont know what else to do.

Thnk you so much or the info. I actually bought a Bonsai in a self watering pot. (You basically put the water in the bottom pot and a thread connects to the top pot where my Bonsai sits. I dunno, first time I purchased one like so.) Anywho, we were out of town for a few weeks, bottom pot dried up, so the the top did as well. When we returned my sweet little guy was parched, leaves started browning and falling off. I now have some green leaves left, other leaves are yellowish, and not strong. Is my little guy dying? Any hope for him?
@BonsaiTalk6 жыл бұрын
Nice to talk to you Devin.. I have literally had trees comming back from the dead, and we are not talking about deadwood here. Try to raise the humidty with some microclimate solution like a tight sitting plasticbag in the shade or a small growbox or greenhouse. Don't give in yet, nurse the shit outta it and wait. Lessons learned.

Great video. I've been thinking of transforming my ficus(Ben variety?) in to a ficus. It dried out too much last summer and I've been pinching back new grow to get more foliage. I use used fish tank water to water it and it seems to be doing well. It has 3 trunks to it and with the canopy still recovering it looks leggy. I've only had it about 2 years so it's still young and flexible. Been thinking of trying to braid the trunks together but I'm not sure about it.

Thanks for your videos. I just received 3 bonsai in the mail today. Satsuki Azalea, Barbados Cherry, and Bougainvillea. Sadly, the pot for the Azalea was broken in three spots. The bonsai had many yellowing leaves - but it is January. The Bougainvillea was in bloom. Gorgeous. The Barbados Cherry looks good. The soil in all is wet. I think to wet. I think all 3 should be Indoors for the Winter, right ??
@BonsaiTalk5 жыл бұрын
Well The Cherry and the Bouggie can be inside... easy but the Azalea is hardy and temperate, you need to put that outside, regardless of the current health status... Make sure you check the Bouggie and the Barbados Cherry, if they are acklimatized and *ready* for a change to a freedraining soil.. Very informative, good work! I've recently bought a Chinese elm, 19 years old apparently. Im worried that its dying already due to many leaves falling off (turn a pale green colour first). I feel like I'm watering it enough. I keep it on my windowsill in the day time and my bedside table at night. Does this sound like a bad idea? I understand you're gonna need more info to diagnose the issue, thanks!
@BonsaiTalk7 жыл бұрын
How ya doing Gav C? Try to find out from the seller exactly where the tree has been grown, inside/outside? This helps alot in your cultivation process because CE can adjust to both climates, indoor/outside. One common mistakes on does is to mistake indoors for outdoors and vice versa... Make sure the tree is healthy check the soil, if its bad and not drained enough, repot it right away and let it rest for awhile.

(Other then the tree not dying) I know I have well draining soil so I’m just watering daily and hoping for the best now. I honestly think my tree was getting. Too much sun and getting scorched. I was watering my tree with the water can left on the deck. The water was too hot. And the tree was barely hanging on. I moved it 4 days ago. Best of luck

I noticed your jade plant. I can't be sure the exact species, but we call them ogre ears because they look like Shrek ears. a similar one is E.T. Fingers. I have one I repotted a few months ago and now some of the foliage is shriveling up and turning black. Others seem healthy but fall off. Any ideas? I water when the soil dries and every once in while I give it succulent plant food.
@BonsaiTalk7 жыл бұрын
How ya doin Frank..You are talking about the demonstration tree Crassula Ovalata, "Jade" is very similiar, Portulacaria afra. Hmm, Black you say?... I'm wildly guessing, without seeing the actual tree, to little water or too much, more like to much! Always check your soil, it must be 100% free-draining so your bonsai is not standing in water, i talk about this alot!
@frankwilsonii73997 жыл бұрын
that is what is confusing me. I only water when the soil dries. Once a month or so, the water goes right through, the plant seems healthy. Maybe light? That don't make sense, I don't know. Great video by the way. Thanks for the feed back!
@BonsaiTalk7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Once a month is WAY to long periods inbetween watering, especially if you have good drainage like you say.. If you have normal light levels (sunlight) atleast 6 hours, you need to water that plant more often, Succulents that's dry, will get shrinkly leaves!

Hi, thank you for this video, I've found it very helpful even if it maid me realise that my bonsai is probably dying. It is literally half healthy and half dried: the foliage on top have dried and fell off, the branches are dried with no sign of new sprouts. However, the foliage of the side branch are healthy green with flowers. I've scrubbed the trunk and the colour beneath is brownish white, I've also scrubbed it on the side where the healthy branch is, and that's vivid green. Do you guys think I still can do something for my Banzai (that's my bonsai's name, lol)? Thank you
@BonsaiTalk7 жыл бұрын
Hey Valeria! Nice to see that you have found us.. stay and grow! The name "Banzai" is just a commercial trick.. it's no species or family name for a tree. Those parts that are dried up or very brittle are most likely dead. Good part is that you can still revive/rejuvenate the parts with foilage and flowers.. those parts have roots working for them.. Follow my steps with the "rescue mission" and/or transplant the bonsai when it's more stabile..
@valeriacartesiani87727 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for the tip! Sorry for the misunderstanding: Banzai is actually the name I gave to my bonsai :) It is a lovely cotoneaster that has dried suddenly when summer broke out. However, part of it has now flourished again apart from the top foliage. I bought it 3 years ago and, a part from minor issues, it has never suffered of anything major... I'll look at your videos and see what I can do ;)

Very interesting video, especially when dealing with a completely dried out Bonsai on the footstep of Death - ( an 18yr old Trident Maple from a hardware store almost completely crispy to touch) This "plastic bag green house method" is definitely more effective, contained, concentrated and practical than manual misting in a green house or whatever first aid setup is available to anyone! Also, "Provado" is something we do Not have in Australia. I understand that you say it is good for pests and mold, but is it also good for the dreaded "Root-Knot Nematode"??!! Could it be the miracle cure we have been searching for, for such a disgusting and stressful pest that we may finally have any hope against??!
@BonsaiTalk6 жыл бұрын
Whats up Miss Anna.. This is what i know.. Nematodes, roundworms are the worlds most common organisms, however only 10% of them live of organic materia. Thus, like we *always* say and will promote, 1. this is why you ALWAYS grow in-organic. 2. This is why you must bareroot all gardencenter material (if the species tolerates it), because it's more likely they will build a infestation in warm, humid place in a framed micro envirnoment full of organic matter. 3. If we start of on the right foot to begin with, the stronger, healthier a plant is, the less are the chances that roundworms will attack the victim. 4. Nematodes are also pretty rare genreally speaking, there are more common pests and diseases like spidermites, mealybugs and tip-blight amongst bonsai trees. Im pretty sure there is strong pesticide and fluids to tackle the problem out there, of this i don't know much, and we need to investigate and check that out.
