Thanks for watching! Clarification...the tank has rgb lights, I was just trying to convey that there are no other colors interfering with how the crypt looked

Not a plant expert but what I do know is that crypt usually melt down like that. Then it slowly comes back then really comes on...like almost a year
@FishRfun8 ай бұрын
Oh wow I didn't know it took that long to come back. Well at least it'll give my ferns a chance to grow and fill in during that time....thanks for watching

I dont know about the crypt but i really do like the way the algae looks on that dragon stone.
@FishRfun8 ай бұрын
I like it too. It's due to too many nutrients in the water though, and it's causing a hair algae issue which I'm working on, but it's not an overnight thing. I haven't yet found the right balance of light and ferts (if any). Yeah the entire back wall is 2 years of just not cleaning it. It's all great algae that my shrimp loved when I kept cherry shrimp, and food for my pygmy corys when they were/some still are to eat anything else except like a repashy powder I'd put in the water...or I'll even try to crunch up nano pellets to fit their mouths. But they aren't picky. They'll eat finely crushed flake just fine. Hey thanks for your support

It's very interesting that they sold you that crypt attached to wood, they can definitely grow and survive like that, but their growth and form are very different, they grow better when planted into the substrate, now answering your question, YES the plant is melting and that's totally normal, just let it be and I personally wouldn't add fertilizers yet, the green algae is still an indicator that your tank is still saturated with nutrients. 🙂

Great point...I thank you for the reassurance that it's ok. I really like that plant. You said it takes a while for the ferts to dilute through water changes. You're right, the hair algae is not completely under control, so no ferts. I appreciate your assistance

I have hornwort coming tomorrow. I think I'll throw it in to soak up some nutrients because I heard it does that very well
@Sinserg8 ай бұрын
@@FishRfun You are welcome 🙂
@Sinserg8 ай бұрын
@@FishRfun It does! just keep an eye on it since it could grow too much and project too much shadow to the rest of your plants 🙂

@Sinserg yes that's what I was talking to someone about. I really want to add back amazon frogbit because it grew so wonderful in this tank, buy I'm afraid it will block out too much light. This hornwort I can throw in, monitor water conditions and remove when my nitrates say get to 20ppm? I literally just tested and the nitrite is zero and ammonia, but nitrates are 50ppm

I don't use fertiliser as i have soil and sand deep substrate. Changing to sand would definitely help you if you dont want the fertilizer route. Also lighting is a factor, definitely upgrade to an RGB light..
@FishRfun8 ай бұрын
This is a fluval flex with RGB LEDS. There is sand below the gravel, I just don't want want anything planted in the substrate in this tank. This tank is kind of a work in progress, because I will have more plants in here as of tomorrow, plus I'm heavy on nitrates so this new plant that will be here tomorrow should help with that. It's hornwort. I love the look of it planted, but people say the planted end always ends up rotting away. I guess I could hold it down vertical with a rock or something
@DashDrones8 ай бұрын
@@FishRfun hmmm, it all depends on what you want I suppose! If you're high in nitrates the hornwart will love it. Crypts are root feeders so not 100% sure in the case🤔
@FishRfun8 ай бұрын
@DashDrones yeah I tested this morning and my nitrates were 50ppm, so I'm definitely working on getting that down to something liveable like 20ppm
@DashDrones8 ай бұрын
@@FishRfun yeah mine hang around 25ppm too which I find great for plants although still enough to feed some hair algae 🤣 let's see what happens once to hornwart arrives to soak it all up 👍

Your crypt is what they call "Crypt Melt" what happens is the leaves go brown & curl like it's dying but it's not. These plants from young are matured out of water, so when brought & fully submerged the plants having to adjust to your water perimeters, it's like hibernation really but in a brown state but at the same time young shoots are taking place in the base, so don't touch it.
@FishRfun8 ай бұрын
I hope it's ok to say this, but I love you...lol. that's so good to hear because I really love that plant. So....no ferts, right?
@peridot-208 ай бұрын
@@FishRfun Your ok I only hear it off my hubby 🥰 No ferts for a week until it adjusts & after a week remove dead leaves cutting them at the base, then add root tabs around the base, I've just had to double check it's been ages since I read about this.
@FishRfun8 ай бұрын
@@peridot-20 root tabs? It's not planted in the substrate. It came attached to thar wood somehow.
@peridot-208 ай бұрын
@@FishRfun On the wood it's 50/50 but in the ground you have a more established chance of shoots growing new in the ground. It does like a lot of light to adjust back from melt adjusting to water. So your on a waiting game regarding the wood sorry but some people still establish good growth on wood. I would still leave it alone personally if it was me to just give the plant chance to see if it adjusts.

@@peridot-20 ok...ya know someone else said the same thing about that red crypt I planted in my 55g in the gravel. They said don't do anything. It's tough, but that's what I'm going to do...thank you
