It sticks once and awhile, especially if you have freezing rain, not a problem with just a light fist bump to break up the ice. I've never been unable to open it up though, it's always opened. With it being dead center on the front end, just pull into the spot, never have to worry if the cord will reach.... easy peasy, super convenient. However I can't wait to get rid of it. I'm barely into this video and can already relate. I bought my 2013 Leaf in 2016, it was a lease turn in with just over 20K/miles and a battery showing 12 bars. It looked brand new, whoever leased it took really good care of it. I picked it up at a dealer (we live in southern CA) for $6995. I bought it for my daily 32 mile round trip committee. Best car I have ever owned and thanks tho regen braking, it still has the factory pads & rotors and they're only worn about 50%. To date the only maintenance I've needed to do is change the tires (I'm on my 3rd set), I've changed the wiper blades each year,.. and that's it! This car has also been the cheapest car I've ever owned, it almost feels like it's disposable, I feel like I've got more than my money's worth. The other main point, this is also the ugliest car I've ever owned, but I kinda forget about that once I get behind the wheel, these little cars are a lot of fun to drive.

We bought the car 4 years ago, fairly cheaply and savings, by my calculation (over hour small Honda Jazz), will add up to to the entire purchase cost of the car next year. Very cheap running so far - the only expense has been tyres (which these EVs do tend chew up a bit faster). In March I got Tesla Model 3 RWD (60kWh LFP) and while that car is better in every way (except price!), we still often use the LEAF around town as it does the job and we are not afraid to load it with rubbish or leave it supermarket car parks etc etc.

Sorry Nathan, you're wrong. On highway, doesn't matter what mode you're in. On city/smaller roads, D is best mode (if you adapt to the mode). Acceleration and braking (regen included) is the killer of range, while steady speed wins the race. In B you're more likely to stay longer on wattpedal and rely on regen to slow down giving a "rolercoaster"-speed, while in D you'll let off earlier, giving a more steady speed. Sure, if you HAVE to brake, regen (B) is the best option, but it's always better to plan ahead and avoid regen all together (D). I've found Eco to do nothing other than make the Leaf as slow as a bus.. To save on heater, just set it low, and turn down the fan-speed.
@jamess.67672 ай бұрын
It depends on the road. I just went down 10,000ft on a windy road and tested different modes (D, B, D Eco, B Eco). When you apply the foot brake, you don’t get regen so it doesn’t charge the battery. Using B mode or any ECO mode charges battery better than just D, but only if you are using it to slow you down. if you drive it correctly into turns but either engaging Eco or B to slow the car down instead of the foot brake, then you will regenerate your battery about 30% more.
@jamess.67672 ай бұрын
To make my point clearly, you can drive in D, but then shirt down to B or push ECO to slow. Or, drive in D, but push ECO and shift into B to brake.
@therandomtester95612 ай бұрын
@@jamess.6767 what car does NOT regen when foot brake is applied?? Yes, in special circumstances (as I clearly mentioned), B will be benefitial. But in general D will be best. And again, not because the mode itself is best, but because of the adapted driving-style..

@mb_a5383 Жыл бұрын
You mentioned a power outage, side note; I purchased a 2000 watt inverter which I can hook up to my 12v battery and power some stuff in my house when we lose power. The traction battery keeps the 12v battery charged on these Leafs (remember, no alternator). This works pretty well for a refrigerator, a tv, and a few lamps and it should last a while, you've got over 2kw, (depending on the SOC on your Leaf). Oh, could be a deal breaker but just like you would have to when hooking up an inverter to an ICE vehicle, the vehicle has to be 'on' (for an ICE vehicle you would have to leave it running). This could be a problem for some, depending on your particular parking restrictions.

QC once in a while is not an issue for Leafs at all. QC nonstop on sunny travel will be. The degradation of the battery over time is much more visible than the degradation by QC. The Leaf is also a heavy throtteler, so it will rarely become that hot that it's gonna be a problem. Our 2015 eNV200 has been QCed about 600 times and degradation is as expected for the age. BTW: Excessive use of B mode is the same thing for the battery as frequent QCs. I would try to coast and only apply brake when you really have to. Range will maximize and battery will be happier.

With this model you have several regen modes D, B, Deco and Beco for the most regen. N is no regen and most efficient. Regen only gives 10% of what you use so freewheeling(No regen) or gravity/inertia drive is the best way to employ hypermiling.

Your car has the same battery health as mine. You should be able to eek out well over a hundred miles on flat ground. You can get insane range coming down mountains. Only use driving modes to slow down to the speed limit.

Why was traction control not mentioned? Is that not standard? It makes a strong difference under slippery conditions!

Have not found the ECO mode useful. Just avoiding jack rabbit starts, and coasting as much as possible, my 2016 30kwh averages 5.1 miles per kwh.

So… we have a Vibe that my son is driving. It doesn’t have AC so we’re considering replacing it. We are leasing a Tesla, have the Wall Connector installed and can get the adapter easily enough (and the cord would reach, I checked.) I’m already approved for a $25k used car loan (set up right before we leased the Model 3, I was trying to buy a used one, deal fell through.) I’m thinking we could trade in the Vibe on a used Leaf the boy could use to get to school (a mile) or practice (20’miles) or my wife could use to get to work (20 miles) and home. We’d need AC though so, that’s a concern. Still, I like the idea of not buying gas ever again…

I have a 2013 Leaf SL with the heat pump and I love it. Great car. I still have 11 bars. Highly modular and easy to fix. I'd like to drop in a 62 kWh battery in the future.

The hood alignment is bad on yours, that's a huge gap between front bumper and hood. Would you be so kind and share a LeafSpy info with us? The SOH mostly? I have a 2017 30kWh Leaf at 80 000km now, I had it for a year, loved it, not regretting buying it at all! But my battery SOH is bellow 80% now, unfortunately, it's still fine for what we use it, but degradation sucks.

He should get the original hub caps for the car. They are also designed for better efficiency.

I actually had my battery replaced on my 2011 Leaf under warranty when it dropped to 7 health bars this was about 8 years ago and since then we only charge it to 80% and so far it has only lost 1 bar. My son really loves the little car no other issues

Why do people say this model is " ugly "? ... its not that bad. The battery life is the big concern with this model however. If this was an IC car, I wouldn't give it a second thought about buying it.

Hey Nathan, glad to see you again. You know what? I prefer a Leaf rather than a BMW, Polestar or whatever expensive fancy e-ride, but its just me. For a luxury car my money is on a traditional combustion engine

It's a myth that fast charges are bad for the battery, except for repeated ones the same day when battery temperature rises.
@drister0072 жыл бұрын
Fast charging a car once a week is no problem for the battery life at all! Even fast charging it every day is not a problem. Study actually found that people that fast charged their electric car more often actually have LESS battery degradation! The explanation was that normally people that fast charge more their car sits LESS time close to 100 %. Having battery at or close to 100 % for all the time is not good for the battery. That's why the recommend to home charge a Tesla to 90 or 80 % on a daily basis, only charge to 100 % when you need to (when you plane doing a roadtrip).

You're better off owning one of these in a cold climate. Get a Bolt if you live in Florida. I live in Illinois and love driving my 2014. I'm saving so much on gas and maintenance. AC still works great (fingers crossed).

The eco way to electric now is to own a used truck for your truck things and a cheap low range ev for your commuting
@Yihooni2 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely spot on. I have truck and a low range cheap ev for commuting. Driving 12k miles a year costs me $600 and I as much as I love working on my cars, it’s nice to not have to work on the daily.

Keeping the batteries topped off is also major cause of battery degradation
