I would contact Goal Zero about the car charger only lasting a few months and see if they will replace it for you. The worst thing they can say is no. But a quality company will want to make it right for you. A great Toyota channel on here is The Car Care Nut. The biggest piece of advice he gives is changing the oil every 6mos./5k miles whichever comes first. Only an hour waiting every 6 months isn't that bad. Great video as well. Thank you.

I have goal zero 3000 as well. Bought the $500 alternator charger for it. But, it also didn’t work properly either. However 300 watts of solar did the trick 😊. It’s been on constantly for 3 years.
@jeffreya9982 жыл бұрын
If you're just running the fridge, look into a dual battery setup under the hood. I think its small money compared to what you have and would work perfect for you since you are driving the vehicle every day for it to charge plus you'll gain all that space back in the vehicle.
@NoPerfectPlan2 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting thought! I don't know if I ever would completely get rid of a portable power station, but I could definitely see getting a smaller one for the odds and ends and connecting the fridge to the battery under the hood. Thanks for the suggestion!

katabatic quilt ratings (unlike other brands) are comfort rating, not survival - if you're cold in it like in a tent (not in car), make sure to turn it into mummy mode, use the draft collars & pad locking system. Loved your vid!

I used the Goal Zero for 2 years and it was perfect. I used the 200 watts of solar and I also had their setup to hook up to your battery and charged as you drive. Goal Zero is not one of those piece of equipment that you can make work with any other brand. I now drive a RV but I still use my Goal Zero when I stop at rest stops and hook up my tv to it. I do have the goal zero 1000 and got it in 2019.

Just stumbled on your channel and loving the content! Just a word of advice, i recommend getting a kennel for the car for your pup! When driving around it's way safer for her in there than to be loose! I have a Mal as well and worked as a decoy for police K9's, and there was a rule no loose doggos in the car! With your power set up. I would sell the goal zero and opt for a jackery set up 1000 or 1500 is good. Also I'd add 2nd battery setup to run you rig accessories and for emergencies like jump starting your main battery with flip of a switch. Also you should look into upgrading your alternator so you can get better output for charging your portable battery generator.
@finleyscotland2 жыл бұрын
I was going to suggest a Jackery 1000 with solar panels.
@krisg39842 жыл бұрын
Jeremy, you suggest a better alternator . Better as in, stronger amperage output ( like what )? I have an older T4R and my jackery doesn’t charge too fast via the 12v cig charger .... waaay tooo. slow. -getting a better alternator -as in larger ? -help that improve? What size did you go with ? Grace is in snow country so solar panels may be covered by snow a lot. I like solar for the fact that the fridge can stay on while I get laundry and groceries on hot days. I’m in Idaho so we have desert heat and Snow in the winter . LiPo4 batteries sound best but 4Runners don’t have a whole lot of garage space in them , even if you get a roof cargo box. Unless you want to sleep over a battery .
@jeremys66312 жыл бұрын
@@krisg3984 It's just like figuring out how much power you need with solar set up. Also with older rig, it's suggested to upgrade the charging cables. All of this can be done by a aftermarket stereo shop.

Jackery's are horrible with short lifespans. You've got to get one with a LiFePO4 Battery like Bluetti makes. It's a much longer lifespan and can handle extreme temperatures.

Hi Grace. Now that you down sized your cooking stove due to size, what did you replace it with? I use a dual fuel butane/propane stove. It stores great in it's carrying case and wow does it heat great. I got mine off Amazon and it has made a lot of great meals and stews. Also I hope you don't mind me asking, but with winter coming what are your winter plans? Head south and ride out the cold on a warm beach? But if you plan on being in the winter, I have some heating ideas that will keep you and the pup warm plus keep the condensation down, and the mold from the moisture. Take care and stay safe.

Hi Brian! I have used the Soto Windmaster backpacking stove for a few months and it has done well! Super tiny, but I definitely miss having an actual camp stove sometimes. Although I love the potability of these large solar batteries which I have (Ecoflow delta pro etc). Instead I built my own permanent solar setup which gives me constant charge even when the sun is no longer out. My accessories are charge from the remaining power of the lithium ion 206 ah battery. So in the end I have a permanent setup and I carry a portable ecoflow unit also.

This comment might be way off target but I’ll throw it out anyway. If I imagine myself as a traveling content creator I feel like my biggest challenge would be…..well, content, coming up with video ideas. If that’s something you struggle with I would say that you can completely forget about that issue. I’m almost certain most of the people watching your videos are here to see and hear from you specifically. If you have relevant topics to cover, that’s fine. If you don’t, well, that’s completely fine as well. You could make a video just chatting about nothing walking down a nice trail and I feel like everyone would still enjoy it. Now don’t read this and think I’m trying to tell you how awesome you are or anything, lol. I just wanted to point out that it seems like the successful YT channels are more about the person hosting than they are about amazing content ideas and I think that’s very true in this instance. Of course my motive for leaving this comment is a bit selfish. If content ideas were less of an issue you’d be able to post more often - just a thought.

I can confirm the Xped mattress is 1) very difficult to roll and pack away, 2) does not properly fit the 5th gen 4 Runner with seats folded down. The manufacturer video will indicate otherwise. Mine also ripped on my 2nd night and went back to REI. It is entirely possible that I had a defective one as REI had multiple returns for similar issues.

That's a lotta' fridge, and a lotta' battery! No solar panels? I've got the CFX3 35, and could downsize. My EcoFlow Delta is about half the watt hours of yours, but will fully charge (by AC) in an hour, a good day of sun in about 8. It's only 100% for about 600 cycles, then 80% afterwards. It's major plus was the quick charge by AC (occasional motel). I've been really lucky with solar, so 200w Renogy "suitcase" has been ample. I'd like to be able to sleep inside my SUV, but opted for a Gazelle T4 tent, which rides in my cargo box. My one wish though, is for 4wd... okay, two wishes - a hightop cargo van would be excellent. But as your channel name says... No Perfect Plan.

Any advice for a cheaper mattress that will function in the cold?
@NoPerfectPlan2 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard good things about the Thermarest MondoKing and it is about $70 cheaper for the larger size. The measurements don’t quite line up the same way, but similar concept. Also, the REI Camp Dreamer Double is on sale right now and I’ve heard a bit of chatter about that one as well. Although, it looks like it doesn’t quite have the durability of the Thermarest or Exped. Also, you may check out the Deepsleep as those also seem to be a good option at a lower price point!

I'm shocked your battery can't be charged by your car's DC port. Mine can. I'm in a SUV and I have 2 portable solar panels. They're really thin so I keep them beside my bed but I can also keep them under my mattress and they would be fine. I put them out anytime I'm going to be somewhere a few hours. I throw them on the roof of my vehicle, with a cable locking them to my Oh Shit handle, or I just put them on the ground with plastic underneath. Maybe grab a portable solar panel if you don't want panels on the roof of your vehicle. PS You spent serious money. I have decent money and spent dollars but you have me beat.

I see you are interested in Alaska. The difference up here is that in 15 years hiking every day on the trails my husband made off our little homestead - I have seen one person, one time. My closest neighbor. The scale is just so drastically larger, and so few people. There's a lot of variety depending on whether you like the ocean, the interior mountains, or whatever. I guess you went to college. I got the MRS as a teenager. I'm going to recommend that program because there's no tuition and you step right into the land, the toys, and the retirement portfolio so long as you are young and want to do the traditional wife routine. The fact you have long hair, no tattoos and especially no metal in your nose will make you real popular with the men. I'm from a completely different culture where finding a man and having children is our prime directive so forgive me if my view on things offends you like it seems to with most of these car life girls. But life up here is also very tough and guys that can weld, do plumbing and electrical, operate heavy equipment, mechanic on vehicles and so forth are a huge advantage.
