On your works righteousness soteriology , one is NEVER BORN AGAIN WITH IRREVOCABLE EVERLASTING LIFE THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE . If in 1 Corinthians 9 Paul was suggesting that he was unsure of his eternal destiny because he didn’t know whether or not he would persevere, then he was plainly contradicting himself in the passages cited above. Paul said he believed on Jesus for eternal life, and he viewed himself as an example for others who would believe (1 Tim 1:16). He was sure of his eternal destiny and that of all who believe on Jesus for eternal life (Acts 16:31; Gal 2:16; Eph 2:8-9; 1 Tim 1:16; 2 Tim 1:12). Since the Scriptures cannot contradict themselves, we know Paul was not expressing doubts about his eternal destiny. The uncertainty Paul was expressing in 1 Cor 9:27 was in regard to whether or not he would persevere in order to win the prize of ruling with Christ. But this has no bearing on his certainty of his eternal destiny. While we cannot know if we will persevere to the end, our eternal destiny is something about which we should have no doubt-because Jesus promised that the one who simply believes on Him has eternal life." Ephesians 2:8-9 Alone renders your "Temporary/Conditional/Probationary" life presupposition impossible to sustain: Aorist tense . ..."have been" . Same with Acts 16:31 . Aorist tense . Justification before God is endless (Romans 3:20-5:11) . Only the result of faith in Him apart from all working for it (Romans 4:1-8) . The Hydra’s New Head: Theological Legalism September 1, 2008 by Zane Hodges in Grace in Focus Articles In Greek mythology, the Hydra was a multi-headed monster. This monstrosity inhabited the marshes of Lerna near Argos, and one of its heads was immortal. Among the daunting labors of Hercules was the task of killing the Hydra, a feat made more difficult by the fact that when one head was cut off, two grew in its place! But Hercules eventually accomplished this labor when he severed the immortal head from the Hydra’s body! In the realm of Christian theology, legalism has long been a doctrinal Hydra. Its many “heads” make it truly difficult to defeat and new “heads” can appear without warning. In fact, the battle will not end until the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. But all of the heads of this beast have one feature in common. They deny the truth that eternal life is obtained by simple faith in Jesus and they substitute some form of legalism as a replacement for that truth. For centuries, the Roman Catholic Church was the most prominent “head” and still retains an extremely high profile. In Catholicism, eternal salvation is not obtained by simply believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life. Instead, adherence to the Church with its many requirements, both doctrinal and practical, is necessary. Catholicism is ecclesiastical legalism in a highly developed form. The cults are also typically legalistic (e.g., Mormonism, Seventh Day Adventism, Jehovah’s Witnesses). Access to eternal happiness depends on adherence to whatever the cult prescribes. This may be called cultic legalism. Since at least the days of Theodore Beza (1519-1605 AD), another form of legalism has emerged which maintains that individuals are not eternally saved unless they are submissive to God’s commands or laws. This doctrine finds its most popular contemporary expression in what is now called Lordship salvation. For Lordship salvation theologians, there is no salvation through simple faith in Jesus for eternal life. Saving faith necessarily entails and includes full surrender and full commitment to God’s will. I call this form of legalism commitment legalism. It must be pointed out that typical Lordship theologians insist that they believe in salvation by faith alone. Not to insist on this would be to give up the sola fide of Reformation doctrine, which most are not willing to do. Instead, they redefine saving faith so that it fits the parameters of their own doctrine. In the process, biblical faith becomes unrecognizable because in Lordship thought it takes the form of self-surrender instead of simple confidence in Jesus Christ. More recently another form of legalism-another Hydra head-has achieved a heightened profile. This new “head” maintains that eternal salvation is by “correct doctrinal conviction.” It is not enough to simply believe that Jesus Christ gives us eternal life when we believe in Him for that. We must also believe certain orthodox doctrines that go along with such belief. But these doctrines are not in themselves identical with believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life. Instead these beliefs form a kind of checklist that measures the validity of one’s faith. I call this form of legalism theological legalism. Basically it is salvation for the orthodox!

(Zane Hodges continues to clarify Theological Legalism) Theological legalism seeks to co-opt Free Grace theology. Indeed, it masquerades as this kind of theology. But this claim is false. Grace is not given freely to the sinner who believes in Jesus for eternal life. Instead, grace is denied to that sinner unless he subscribes to the relevant theological propositions. A recent book entitled Getting the Gospel Wrong1 prescribes five core essentials that one must believe to get eternal life. If a person fails to believe even one of the five, he has believed a gospel that cannot save him. But at this point obvious problems emerge. Who determines which theological doctrines are necessary for eternal salvation? The Bible, we are told. But where in the Bible? No single place, we are told. Who then determines what the definitive list contains? The answer, of course, boils down to this: the theological legalist himself! Because if the legalist himself doesn’t tell us, no one will ever figure it out! Some adherents of theological legalism claim that 1 Cor 15:1-8 is a key text in their theology. But this claim cannot withstand even superficial scrutiny. In 1 Cor 15:1-8 Paul is reminding the Christians in Corinth about the content of his gospel. In verse 3 the NKJV reports him, somewhat inaccurately, as saying, “For I delivered to you first of all.” “First of all” renders a Greek phrase (en prōtois) that ought to be translated “as of first importance” in accordance with the treatment of this phrase in the standard lexicon. BDAG [p. 893] observes: “en prōtois among the first = most important things, i.e., as of first importance 1 Cor 15:3.” Both NASV and NIV correctly render this Greek phrase “as of first importance.” It is clear, then, that Paul considered the items he enumerated in verses 3b-8 to be items of major importance to his gospel message. These items are: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures” (v. 3b); “He was buried” (v. 4a); “He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (v. 4b); “He was seen by Cephas” (v. 5a); “then by the twelve” (v. 5b); “after that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some are fallen asleep” (v. 6); “after that he was seen by James” (v. 7); “then by all the apostles” (v. 7b); “then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time” (v. 8). Keep in mind that all these items were of “first importance” in Paul’s gospel. Is it therefore necessary to believe all nine to receive eternal life? So far, I don’t know of any theological legalist who claims all nine are necessary. Instead, this type of legalist is reduced to “cherry picking” the items he himself considers of “first importance!” Such a process is self-refuting. It is also arrogant. A ridiculous error is involved here. Paul is obviously not giving a list of “core essentials” that must be believed in order to be eternally saved. Many of us, however, have been conditioned to think that the term “gospel” defines what a person must believe to have eternal life. But 1 Cor 15:1-8 shows this is false. Clearly, for Paul, the term “gospel” is broader than the essential content of saving faith. In 1 Cor 15:1-8 Paul is giving the informational content of his gospel. On the basis of this vitally important content, he would have expected the Corinthians to believe in Jesus Christ for eternal life. But since they had already done this, he does not mention it here specifically. His gospel is being recalled here because Paul is defending the truth of the resurrection (1 Cor 15:12-58). The items he lists are chosen for that purpose. A failure to see this seriously misunderstands the biblical text. To make 1 Cor 15:1-8 a touchstone or yardstick for determining the essential content of saving faith is to grossly misuse the biblical text. As a great Bible teacher once said, “A text taken out of its context is a pretext!”

1 Corinthians 15:2 By this gospel you are saved, [IF] you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise you have believed in vain. IF we believe the gospel that Paul preached We will come to Christ in repentance. Acts 17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now commandeth all people every where to repent. Acts 20:21 I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. Jesus and Paul Acts 26:18-20 To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ 19 So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. Show evidence of your repentance by your conduct. Galatians 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. We must also be immators of Christ as Paul was (1 Corinthians 11:1). Romans 8:6-7,13 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.13For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Paul warns about satan's deception of not repenting of our sins. 2 Timothy 2:25-26 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. Without repentance and faith resulting in a lifestyle change you will not be saved.

1 Corinthians 15 VS 1-4 is the Gospel. If we listen to Paul and rightly divide the word of God, then we will realize that the Gospels are NOT written for the body of Christ, no not even John. There is nothing about trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ to be saved. The Gospels spoke of Jesus death as a rebuke to the nation of Israel. Remember when Jesus said to Peter, I must go up to Jerusalem and die but I'll be raised up again, and Peter responded, be it FAR from you Lord that this will happen to you? (but he preached the death burial and resurrection for eternal life? I don't think so). Or what about when the Jews were scared because Peter rebuked them for killing their Messiah (bad news) and that they must repent and be baptized??? That is Not our Gospel. Paul wrote more than enough in his epistles about eternal life. The problem is not that people don't want to believe, it's that they are ignorant, they fail to rightly divide the word of truth and see that not everything is written TO them. The four Gospels are the earthly ministry of Christ to THE JEWS, NOT THE BODY OF CHRIST. We don't follow Jesus earthly teachings or else you'll be following the Law. I guess I can try an make it more clear but until the Holy Spirit opens eyes, we will remain ignorant of the mystery and better way that Jesus gave to Paul. It's simple, Paul is our Apostle to follow, that is what Jesus commanded.

1 Corinthians 15 is clearly written to the already regenerated brethren in a Sanctification Discipleship context . Not an Evangelistic setting , as the Book of John undeniably states (20:31) . Nowhere in any conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/endless Justification before God passage in the Bible are His attributes/works He performed DBR) the Object and Content whereby one is irreversibly invested with His endless Life. Ever . If it were true that the DBR were the only means of Eternal regeneration/thus Eternally Justified , then every one of those verses must Necessarily have the DBR - specifically , precisely , and without exception - as the Sole Object and Content . Yet , we only find its utter absence . As helpful and Preparatory as are ALL of His attributes/works are , yet it remains undeniable that His Free Gift of Endless Everlasting Life that the Christ (Jesus) gives , is the Center of the Dartboard . The Disciples were clearly regenerated well before understanding His attributes/DBR in John 1&2 . Not until well after (John 20) did they understand . NECESSARY versus PREPARATORY . My little boys at less than 7 years old believed in Jesus FOR His endless Life without an exhaustive , comprehensive understanding of Christology , Pneumatology , Angleology , and Theories of the Atonement . How much (%) of an understanding of the DBR would Nail it down and "Qualify" one for Regeneration ? Just 15:1-4 ? 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ? Why not 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 ? Were not told .

Our thinking should be of a point of relationship. Christ died - I am dead 2.Cor.5,14 Christ was buried - Romans 6:4: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Christ was risen - Colossians 3:1: If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God Christ was seen - 2 Corinthians 4:10-11: Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. We the believers in Christ Jesus are the Body of Christ. We are members of His Body. This is the closest possible relationship. Living in this relationship changes everything. 1 Corinthians 12:3 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. Matthew 7:21-23 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ John 6:39-40 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” You can’t believe something you do not understand. Are you open? Luke 10:20-22 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Jesus Rejoices in the Spirit 21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have HIDDEN these things from the WISE and INTELLIGENT and REVEALED THEM TO BABES. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 22 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and NO ONE KNOWS who the Son is EXCEPT the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” John 6:44-45 44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. If your a babe meaning you are open, prayerfully read through the Gospel of John asking the Father to teach you. The Gospel of John is the only book in the Bible that’s purpose statement is evangelistic. And John was written long after the birth of the Church. John 20:30-31 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have LIFE IN HIS NAME.

For Jesus to grant forgiveness of sins without repentance through faith would make the grace of God an accomplice to evil.

@AlvinFen How to be born again according to Jesus: Matthew 18:1-5 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3And said, Verily I say unto you, EXCEPT YE BE CONVERTED, and become as little children, YE SHALL NOT ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN . 4 WHOSOEVER THEREFORE SHALL HUMBLE HIMSELF as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. Mark 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should BE CONVERTED, AND THEIR SINS SHOULD BE FORGIVEN THEM. Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. How are we converted? Jesus converts Paul Acts 26:14-20 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads. 15“Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting the Lord replied. 16 Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. 19 So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. 20First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. Verse 18 (Jesus speaking) says that when God drawls you to Him, 7 things happen inside of you. Your eyes are opened, and you turn from darkness to light (this is referred to as conversion) This is repentance a change of mind about your sinfulled life I believe and that will result in a change of direction. Conversion is the change of direction. So your eyes are opened you are turned from darkness to light, hence you are set free from the power of satan. You can only be set free from sin, by repentance which is the result of faith (belief) without both you haven't been set free from sin and the end result will be hell. You receive the forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those that are sanctified. Verse 19 Paul says obeyed his heavenly vision and preached Verse 20 I preached that they shall repent (turn from) sin to God by faith and show evidence of their repentance (conversion by their deeds/works (change of conduct).

@@deha11mo Yes the author of Hebrews explains repentance from dead works (sins) is first requirement for salvation. There is no way to faith except through repentance. Any other claims to get you there is deception. True faith is impossible without repentance. The foundation of the Christian faith is Jesus Christ. Anyone who claims to be a Christian has to build their life on that foundation. Building on the foundation is hearing and doing what Jesus said. Hebrews 6:1-3 [This is the doctrinal foundation of the Christian faith, and it lists 6 doctrines] 1Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles [or basic truths] of Christ, let us go on to perfection,[completion or maturity] not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works (sins) and of faith (belief) toward God. 2of the doctrine of baptisms,(water and baptism of the Holy Spirit) laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.3And this we will do if God permits. First of all it's essential to lay the foundation. If you've never laid the foundation you can never do the building. That takes us from the very starting point in the Christian faith to its ultimate fulfillment in eternity. It's very important to see that the Christian faith does not terminate in this life. It takes us beyond this world beyond time into eternity. Paul says if we only in this life have faith in Christ we are of all men the most miserable, the most to be pitied. Verse 3 says this we will do if God permits. Our foundation needs to be laid to God's requirements. Repentance from dead works. Anything not done in faith is a dead work.(Sin) We have to turn from anything not done in faith. Faith alone gives life to what we believe and what we do. Repentance is not an emotion it springs from the will. There are 2 main languages in the Bible Greek in the new, and Hebrew in the old The Greek means to change your mind and the Hebrew means to turn away from. Put the 2 together and you have complete picture of repentance. The whole message of the Bible is in this order, Repent and believe. Faith that is not associated with or precedes out of repentance is a counterfeit faith. It is not the Faith of the new testament. There is no true believing the gospel apart from repentance. It's a counterfeit. It's not real faith, and it produces counterfeit fruit, because they don't have real faith. They have a counterfeit,a substitute faith, which has bypassed repentance. You cannot find in the new testament starting in Matthew and ending up in Revelation where faith is offered without repentance. It's a false gospel.

Acts 13:48. All who were appointed to eternal life believed. It doesn’t say all who believed were appointed to eternal life.

A New View on Acts 13:48 “As Many as Were Prepared for Eternal Life Believed” January 1, 2007 by Bob Wilkin in Grace in Focus Articles My Old View Nearly three years ago I wrote a Grace in Focus newsletter article (May-June 2004) on Acts 13:48 and the controversial phrase, “As many as were appointed to eternal life believed” (NKJV). Calvinists typically use this verse to prove unconditional election. In that article I questioned whether the verse was about election. I suggested it might mean, “As many as devoted themselves to eternal life believed.” Recently I received an email that pointed out that the verb in question, when used in the passive voice as it is in Acts 13:48, doesn’t carry the sense of being devoted. As I read the email and looked up the lexical evidence, I realized I was wrong. After interaction with a friend, and further lexical and exegetical study, I believe I’ve arrived at a view that better fits the evidence. Some Were and Some Were Not Prepared for Eternal Life There is a clear connection between the reference to eternal life in v 48 and its mention two verses earlier. Paul and Barnabas were in Pisidian Antioch speaking in the synagogue to both Jews and Gentiles. Boldly Paul and Barnabas said to the Jews who were jealousy opposing them, “Since you reject [the word of God], and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles” (v 46). Then they cite two statements from Isaiah, “I have set you [or You] as a light to the Gentiles, that you [or You] should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.” Luke then said, “When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed [esan tetagmenoi] to/for eternal life believed(v 48).” We should not overly press the idea in v 46 of people who were guilty of judging themselves unworthy of eternal life. Paul’s point is that the Jews who rejected the saving message about Jesus were in effect also rejecting eternal life. While they didn’t realize it, they were indicting themselves by their rejection of the apostolic word. The words of Jesus in John 3:18 come to mind where He teaches that those who do not believe in Him stand condemned already. Two groups had two different relationships with eternal life. The first group did not receive it and judged themselves unworthy of it. They were not prepared when they first heard the saving message. The second group did receive it and these were ones whom God in some sense had prepared to believe in Christ. The Verb Tassō Refers to Placing or Positioning Someone or Something The word appointed in most translations of Acts 13:48 is a translation of the Greek verb tassō. The leading dictionary of NT Greek gives as the first meaning of this word “to bring about an order of things by arranging, arrange, put in place” (BDAG, p. 991b). The lexicon suggests that a number of NT usages, including the passage under discussion, fit under this nuance: Matt 8:9; Luke 7:8; Acts 13:48; Rom 13:1; 1 Cor 16:15. BDAG suggests this specific understanding of Acts 13:48, “belong to, be classed among those possessing [eternal life]” (p. 991c). While I don’t agree with that conclusion, it is instructive that the lexicon does not adopt the appointed to eternal life understanding. The second major meaning of the word is “to give instructions as to what must be done, order, fix, determine, appoint” (p. 991cd). The lexicon suggests these verses carry those nuances: Matt 28:16; Acts 15:2; 18:2; 22:10; 28:23. The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology article ontassō (vol 1, p. 476) reminds us of the military uses of this word: “its first meaning is military: to draw up troops (or ships) in battle array, and so to post or station them.” Luke’s Four Other Uses of Tassō All Have The Idea of Arrangement or Placement But what did Luke have in mind for us to understand? One help is to look at other uses of tassō in his two-volume work. He uses this word more than any other NT writer. There are four other uses in Luke-Acts: Luke 7:8; Acts 15:2; 22:10; 28:23. Luke 7:8. A centurion, a man over 100 soldiers, said to Jesus, “I also am a man placed under authority.” Of the four other Lucan uses, this one literally has the sense of military placement. This centurion was placed in his position by those above him. Acts 15:2. “They determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem.” The translation here is difficult. A more literal translation would be they arranged for [or positioned] Paul and Barnabas and certain others from among them to go up to Jerusalem. Once again, the idea of the arranging of people is evident here. Acts 22:10. “Arise and go to Damascus, and there you will be told all things which are appointed [or that have been arranged] for you to do.” Jesus here told Paul that in Damascus he would learn what his new life’s work would be. The idea of arrangement or placement is again in view. On this occasion it is not a person, but things he will do in the future, that have been arranged. Certain tasks had been arranged for Paul to do by Jesus. Acts 28:23. “So when they had appointed him a day [or Having arranged a day with him], many came to him.” These leaders of the Jews wished to hear what Paul had to say about Jesus and His followers (vv 17-22). They arranged or agreed upon a day to hear him. This arrangement is of days and not people. Appointed seems to be a bad translation choice here. The Idea of Arrangement or Placement Is Also Evident in Acts 13:48 The idea of arrangement and positioning fits well in Acts 13:48 too. An overly literal translation would be something like, “As many as had been arranged [or positioned] for eternal life believed.” We might paraphrase this as follow: “As many as had been prepared for eternal life believed.” When one makes arrangements for something, he prepares for it. Troops arrangedin battle array are prepared to fight. There is plenty of evidence in the rest of the NT of people being prepared for eternal life. In Acts 16:14 we learn that God “opened Lydia’s heart that she might heed the things spoken by Paul and Silas.” Paul said in 2 Cor 4:6 that “it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” In this way of viewing Acts 13:48, Luke is saying that the Gentiles who believed were people whom the Spirit had prepared for eternal life by opening their hearts. By contrast, the Jews of v 46 were ones who had not been prepared, whose hearts had not been opened, and hence who did not believe and did not receive life eternal. This passage does not address the question as to whether we can do anything to get God to prepare us for eternal life. However, earlier in Acts we read of Cornelius, a God-fearing Gentile who was prepared by God because he had responded to the light he received in the synagogue (see Acts 10:4-9, 35). Later, in Acts 17:27, Luke cites Paul when he said that God has granted that all might grope for God and find Him. Thus, this passage is not about election at all. None of the terms for election or choosing are used here. Rather, the issue is arrangement or preparation. This view makes sense in light of the contrast between vv 46 and 48, in light of the meaning of tassō, and in light of Luke’s five uses of tassō. More Work Needs to Be Done Here Like most Bible study, establishing a new view requires us to keep digging to see if we can refine it and better defend it. There are eight total uses of tassō in the NT (cf. Matt 28:16; Luke 7:8; Acts 13:48; 15:2; 22:10; 28:23; Rom 13:1; 2 Cor 16:15). None of the other seven links tassō with everlasting life. However, the military idea of being arranged or positioned fits well in most if not all of them. I urge others to do more work on all eight of these passages. This would be a good topic for a journal article or master’s thesis. Don’t Let Anyone Use This Verse to Rob You of Assurance The real danger, of course, is that if you come to believe that only a certain group of people have been appointed for eternal life, then you may begin to wonder, “How do I know I am in that group?” If your answer is, “Because I believe in Jesus!” then the only problem with the “election” understanding of Acts 13:48 is that it misses the point of the passage. However, if your answer is, “Because my works are pretty good,” then you already lack assurance since your works are imperfect and are incapable of providing assurance. The person who emailed me pointed out that while he believes in individual election, he doesn’t believe in limited atonement, the view that Christ only died for some. Because of that, this verse, even under the traditional understanding, gave him no trouble. That is the way it should be. Scripture can’t contradict Scripture. Jesus died for all (John 3:16; 1 John 2:2). Anyone who believes in Jesus has everlasting life. If you believe in Jesus for eternal life, then you know you have it (John 11:25-27). It really is that simple.

There's not a single passage in the Bible that states : "Whosoever that in Unconditionally Elected FOR EVERLASTING LIFE has Everlasting Life" . Not one . Election has no eternal/Everlasting referent . Always an "Election" to service in every conceivable context .
