Very helpful. We're moving to Nanoose Bay in July and are so excited!! But we are surrounded by naysayers -- "You're going to hate it, there are only 3 restaurants", "It's way colder and rainier than White Rock", "You'll be at the mercy of BC Ferries", etc.

Make sure you watch the latest video about Fairwinds in Nanoose. You’ll love it here and all the things you can do. Make sure you eat at the Rusted Rake Brewery. It’s amazing food.

Love the video. Two things to add: 1) there will soon be a Fast Foot Ferry between downtown Nanaimo and downtown Vancouver, in addition to the 2 BC Ferries routes; 2) there is now a BC Ferries mobile app that would allows easier checking schedules and booking.

There is a Chinese Buffet Restaurant called the Shanghai City near the Departure Bay area, since you said you will be travelling from Shanghai.

Best thing to do in Nanaimo is hit the cheap gas station while you're waiting at all the beautiful red lights our city has to offer. If you value scenery and traffic jams, Nanaimo is a great place to gas up for the Highway 19 experience.

@@Nanaimore I agree with your first point, however, Highway 19 only has a tiny fraction of Nanaimo's many red lights. (And they want to keep adding more).

Trees, ocean, golf, boating, weather. But that's it. Your stuck. It's the wild west. Too dark in the winter. Earthquake? Fire potential is scary. It's a desert environment in the summer. 2 lane highway to Victoria and airport. You make it seem easy to "hop" onto a ferry or boat. It's not so easy. Driving is easy.

These are very helpful videos. I had a quick question for you. My wife and I live in Northern California. I am looking at the possibility of purchasing a condo or townhouse in the future on the Island. My wife has dual citizenship. Is there any advantage to this? Also it seems that property taxes can be very different depending on what part of the island you are purchasing. Any comments on these things? Thanks!

Hey! What are your thoughts on Extension? Is THAT too remote??
@Nanaimore Жыл бұрын
Extension road leads you through Chase River, Cinnabar, and the town of Extension which was a mining camp in the past. It’s not a far drive from downtown. If your looking for something rural it’s a fantastic area to target.

You have some amazing vids! Question, I am a college student looking to move to the island, how is life for the young people? Ive heard from a few people that the island is more like a retirement community; is there any life for younger people?
@pzhang66 Жыл бұрын
There are lots of things to do for the young, and I see more and more young faces popping up. Get on it before it is too late. There is the Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo which is constantly increasing its student population. There are so many fun things to do in the nature - many great trails that you don't have to drive an hour to get to, there are dives, there are great beaches, there are mountains to climb, there are crabbing, clamming and beach combing, there are so many beautiful awesome sceneries. It is paradise on earth, and probably the warmest place in Canada. Just be aware, the weather is varied and great during spring, summer and fall, but gets rainy during winter.

To anyone thinking of coming here: no. Don’t. You’ll hate ie. it rains all the time and there are black bears walking the streets. Deer will jump right out in front of you when you are driving. Day or night. There are massive lineups at the ferries. Flights are crazy expensive and always delayed. There are no jobs and it’s impossible to find rentals. There are no good restaurants and here’s no social life. You will regret coming here 😅

One of those you mentioned is an island. Vancouver Island, however, does not have a bridge, connecting it to the mainland.
