Is NEW Seiko 5 GMT Any Good? Watch Review

I’ve owned the SSK003 now for a week. I’m loving everything about this watch. I think it’s amazing 🤩 . The only thing I might mod on this is adding a Marine Master clasp to the stock bracelet. Other than that it’s a perfect watch and keeping fantastic time . The bezel on these new SSK watches actually have an aluminum bezel insert with a hardlex covering the aluminum insert .

I think the best part is there is going to be a flourishing mod community with sapphire crystals, new bracelets (I would imagine the current SKX/Seiko 5 aftermarket straps still work here), etc. If I wasn't looking at getting a Tudor GMT soon, I'd be tempted to pick one up.

Just got the blue one. Fell in love with the light play on the glossy bezel. It also keeps perfect time. +3 sec a day

@@Nash_St the hardlex is like or almost same as sapphire....i own the ssk003 for almost 1 year for daily driving and ive never seen even a single hairline scratch

Thanks for the great review. I bought one when they first came out (blue bezel) as I love the SKX and loved the idea of the GMT. This watch is incredibly comfortable. You almost can't feel it's there. Much more comfortable (for example) than my Tudor GMT (and I have big wrists). And I agree with all the shortfalls you mentioned. If this had saphire crystal, a click bezel, a screw down crown, a machined clasp, screws rather than pins in the bracelet and (for me) an SKX009 pepsi bezel - then what a watch that would be!!!! But I'd keep the cyclopse. I rather like that.

It doesn’t look like the cyclops really gives that much magnification. Definitely would have preferred their either make it more functional, or just leave it out. Overall it is a nice looking watch though

I don't think the bezel is highly polished aluminum to look like ceramic but its covered with Hardlex.

Seiko used to be a popular' brand, great quality at fair price... Nowadays they forgot their clientèle' and sliding' to high-end/premium prices but entry level' models as this one, a vulgar 7S26 updated...$ 500 RRP and not even a sapphire crystal or $ 400 too much...

I really do have one of these on my hit list, however due to the appalling quality control I'm in a situation where I'm going to HAVE to get one from an authorised dealer rather than the £30-50 cheaper online option. Sadly I can't take the chance of trusting that there isn't something wrong with it, such as chapter ring misalignment, date wheel misalignment or just simply scratches or other damage caused during the manufacturing process. Quality control is absolutely VITAL for a watch, and this aspect seems to be very sadly neglected by Seiko recently :(

Great review! Im thinking abt getting the orange one and this will be my first ever Seiko. Im a bit worried abt quality control and the fact i will get a Malaysian watch as do these if im not mistaken. Should i be worried or happily get one? I have had swiss watchea and other Japanese brands.

Thank you for your review. I bought one of these earlier today but when I set the watch to 12:00 the minute an hour hand we're out of alignment with each other, and the GMT hand wouldn't align to the hour marks, it was like a half step away. So I returned it. Do the hands on yours align properly?

I am both impressed and slightly disappointed, they had the chance to provide an extremely well specked piece for the community at a very reasonable price....an opportunity to give back as it where, I believe they'd sell more and the overall financial impact on this scale would be minimal....of course it's a business etc but still they could have potentially gone down as the brand of the decade for it never mind just the year....that said it's going to provide tremendous opportunity to all the micros and Ali express brands....🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚

I have no complaints with the cyclops, but I don't care for the clickless bidirectional bezel and the display back. If you take those 2 away, you get the SKX.

I don't get this release. You're paying more for less in a manner of speaking. Why Seiko refuses to upgrade the crystal, sign the crown and make it a push pull instead of a screw down and get rid of garbage pressed clasp is beyond me.

I'd like a GMT that can be worn with a shirt in the office. This would allow tracking timezones of clients around the world. This one doesn't fit the bill. Hopefully Seiko make DressKX GMT which wears much better.

Seiko: Used to make the best watches for the price in the industry. Punched way above their weight class. Also Seiko: Removes a model line and then cut corners on the replacement. It’s almost like Seiko doesn’t know what made them popular in the first place. Y’all have fun with this one, I’m not wasting $500 on this one.
