Is Nintendo DONE With amiibo?

It feels like every year we get less and less amiibo, and its now been (or will be in a week) a full year since the last game that even supported amiibo released. What's going on here? Is Nintendo done making new amiibo? Let's talk.

I’ve convinced myself that Nintendo will lean into AR and Amiibo will be part of that.

I think they’re probably just being more selective with which amiibo they release. I think the first decline with amiibo years ago was partially from people being overwhelmed and then exhausted by the number of amiibo constantly coming out

Also, while the number of new releases has declined, I think most of the new amiibo coming out are much higher quality/more detailed than many of the earlier amiibo. Just look at the most recent Zelda ones, they’re some of the coolest and most detailed amiibos to come out yet. I’d much rather have fewer releases in exchange for more unique and better quality models

I love the idea of a collectible figure as DLC rather than just a digital download. Nintendo however, needs to provide more value in game for the Amiibo purchase.

I love it too. most game can do it, transformers, gundam, fortnite, etc....even marvel rival, but they all aim for short money, maybe 1-10 year, not 20-30 year of memorable spending

I still have my Mario smash figure with me since 2014 along with Luigi and I still carry them with me

I haven't owned any Amiibo for at least 8 years now, but they're so nostalgic for me 😂 I still remember getting my first Smash 4 Mario amiibo back in 2015

I hope they keep releasing them. Even if they barely do anything in games, I feel like most who collect them do so for the collectable element. And there's so many characters that could stand to still have some, like more Xenoblade characters, or even Pokemon trainers characters. They could even include some alternates in Smash (ex. we never got lady Byleth which is A CRIME), which would make a lot of sense in particular if we end up getting some kind of port or 'upgrade' of Smash Ultimate for the next hardware.

hahahaha, if the amiibo can share with 4 ppl max, then it actually kinda good to share among 1 family, or 1 group of friend, less burden to collect

I hope Nintendo continues to produce amiibo. I would love to see Nintendo produce amiibo based on official renders from classic games such as Super Mario World and A Link to the Past. Medicom has done some excellent work in this arena. Unfortunately, I feel like amiibo based on their classic art would have far more limited appeal…

I’m ok with them stopping. I’ve collecting every single one. It’s been almost 10 years. They may want to reboot them at another point someday. The fact that they didn’t bother with an elephant Mario amiibo is very telling about their plans.

I don't want to be forced to buy an amiibo. Locking Epona behind an Amiibo was quite shady! Same with that wolf amiibo figure!

Hey Bo, interesting video. It definitely would be sad to see Amiibo go but I understand the de-emphasis on them. Are you gonna make a video on Endless Ocean by any chance?

I only have Yarn Yoshi amiibo,Samus,and the Inkings I gotta up my collection.

I really have enjoyed amiibo over the last decade. They have been around for so long now that it feels they have always been around lol.

Amiibo will never end and I love and appreciate companies who produce figures nfc or not of characters. If it does end up being gone I would understand both it ending and not ending. If you want to collect every amiibo ever? Good luck I personally doubt Nintendo hates money and wants to stop soon sure they slowed down but it’s cause there’s just so many amiibo out there and it’s a very difficult process believe it or not to measure demand for these things and choosing which game or characters get an amiibo. Functionality is fine I wish it were physical dlc like physical video games and in a way it is but I wish there were an option for more portable amiibo or digital/licenses etc. I wish I could take my amiibo everywhere with me digitally cause obviously physically would be impossible or a pain 😂 amiibo functionality is a missed opportunity if anything we could be here forever I also wish they’d restock the really rare amiibo. Possibilities are endless for amiibo give us more Amiibo cereal.

Amiibos were little tokens of appreciation I have towards my favorite franchises. Beyond being a nice knickknack on my desk, I really couldn't care what they'd unlock, as pay-walling any content is poor practice.
