I'm so glad this popped up in my recommendations. I enjoyed your videos over on ig, but I deleted it a few months back for my mental well being (never going back!!!!) I hope you'll continue to make long form, nonfiction content going forward :)

Added a few to my TBR pile as would not have heard of them nor even where to. Thank you. This is what I complain about when i try to find books through community as a 99.9% nonfiction reader. Thank u

Excited that you are interested in talking about books from university presses - I can't wait to see more of your content on that. Thanks for introducing me to The Question of Unworthy Life. I'm about a third of the way in How to Tell When We Will Die and am already enjoying, but it presents itself as getting much weirder as it goes on, and that sounds awesome. This is a great time to join nonfic booktube if you like community events at all. One of the most fun nonfiction-focused channels I follow, abookolive, hosts Nonfiction November.

Welcome to booktube! I used to watch you on tiktok but then I deleted my account, which I do not regret but I have missed your content! Granted i'm already subbed to your substack. :) I love nonfiction. I also read fiction but i've realized I loved learning and reading nonfiction more so i've been reading more nonfiction than fiction. And i'm also disabled. I hadn't heard about How to Tell When We Will Die! And it's the kind of stuff I love to read to! Thank you for coming over to booktube!

Such a valuable video, Nathan! I have added most of them to my TBR. Your recommendations are the real deal; I read The Cold Vanish earlier this year and absolutely loved it. Please keep doing what you do. I genuinely believe you are one of the most unique voices on BookTok / BookTube. Your passion for books and knowledge is palpable!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yeah, I liked it a lot. AI is a difficult book subject because there’s so many different ways to approach it and the news updates so fast. I’ve been loving listening to Better Offline though

I just got done reading a new book on Goodreads called The Lost Chronicles of Asauria, which is a dinosaur fantasy series. I found myself really growing attached to the old male character. I am very excited for the rest of the series to be released. I personally fell in love with each and every character that was introduced. Tia managed to give them each a very unique personality, that made them all so much more lovable. The pacing of the entire piece feels just right, nothing too slow or too fast. I had a very easy time with picturing anything that was described, the authors writing really made it easy! Would definitely recommend checking this one out.

So great seeing you here! If you're interested in the translator's process, Omid Tofighian's essay on translating Behrouz Boochani's No Friend But the Mountains is one of the most incredible things I've read on the subject. Recommend the whole book but yea the translator's essay is really interesting.

if you like memoir and science writing, try 'the outrun' by Amy Liptrot! It's a memoir about addiction but also has lots about the natural history of Orkney worked in. It was also just made into a movie staring Saoirse Ronan which is fabulous!

I do not have tiktok but I watched a bunch of your tiktoks on a browser back when that was more of a thing. Even with that small of an exposure to your work, you became a huge example to me of how i might, as someone who is also disabled and deeply interested in nonfiction, be able to enter the book Internet space. And i was actually thinking of doing it here on booktube but I'm being really mindful of my spoons so I'm not in a hurry to get started right away. Do you have advice for people who are interested in making nonfiction booktube more of a thing? Not advice for the platform of KZbin specifically, more just like book influencer thoughts and being a public figure thoughts.

The only other nonfiction booktuber I’ve heard of is IdeasInAHat, but they’re not that big. I’ve followed you on ig for a while now, and I hope you do get big here. Nonfiction doesn’t get the visibility it deserves (not saying that fiction is the lesser genre)

Would love to have a chance to learn more about books on disability, especially blindness. I am a low vision art historian and have been thinking about how to bring that into focus when I eventually apply for grad school.

One of my favorite books on disability is There Plant Eyes: A Personal and Cultural History of Blindness by M. Leona Godin. Good luck on your future application!
