Boys, you made the right decision to wait for original parts. I run a large engineering business and was horrified when I saw the aluminium and steel parts you had made. 100 % that would have failed. Have a great crossing guys. Love the channel, love the content.

You were quite right to WAIT, for the correct part. And we’ll done Neptune & Co. I would also advocate buying another one as well, when you have a reliable posting address. What an excellent job you did, including your own DIY snug fit ideas. Looks like yer got the Silver Medal in the dingy race, and those busses have air con units in them ? Good luck for when you do finally shove off with the wind you need. Bernie 👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Love you guys and sorry for the issues... best to carry spare parts, especially the obvious mechanical things that you depend on daily. Go through the boat and figure out what items sustain wear and tear from daily use and keep spares onboard. Watch out for the potential for galvanic corrosion between the rivets and the aluminum tube over time.
@TheSailingBrothers

We are just super glad we found the issue before heading out into the open ocean. It's a good job we have spare parts for it now just in case. We do have lots of spares on the boat if anything else fails but you can't carry everything. We will keep it greased and look out for any corrosion ✌️😁

I think the engineer had the right idea. It just needed a little more work to mesh the threads. You’re apoxy solution will work well until you have the same issue. Removing it could be an absolute nightmare if the apoxy has adhered to both surfaces as it should. Anyhow your Chanel is probably the best sailing adventure on youtube you have such an honest delivery totally excellent quality well done both of you. It beats the h*ll out of stocking shelves 👍👍

Brothers! This episode was a testament to your patience, desire to make the most of life and concern for others. At 71, I've come to terms with my health, sailing abilities and equipment. I am blessed with a loving wife who would probably risk my traveling fantasies, but I've focused on affordable land yachting for now. We've done 3-4 4,000 mile Prius trips. At 240,000 miles, our 2010 toyota is willing, but welcomes (sometimes demands) a little TLC. Like you, preventave maintenance, along with selective tools, bungee chords and a roll of color matched duct tape get loaded right after we check the air in the spare. It helps us enjoy the sights putside the car, in stead of the drama inside 😊. I look forward to hearing about your continued journeys. I bet that lady was praying for all of us! Lord knows we need it . Best 2 ya!

Ideally should be Monel rivets in Aluminium, but will last a few years I would think. I'd keep an eye on your other plastic cogs too, I guess they'll have all aged the same under the sun.
@TheSailingBrothers

If I thought about which rivets to use. We will keep a close eye on all the bits and bobs. The plastic is bound to get UV damage as well

12:47 not too fussy at all but I for sure would have tried to work with that guy to tighten up the tolerances. He could have done that easily I think and made the cog out of stainless possibly too. Keep all of that lubricated and I think it would be more reliable than the plastic. 18:40 the sheering strength of aluminum rivets is not the same as SS but that epoxy should help with that Personally, of course (LOL) I would have used a flexible compound to tighten up the looseness vs. epoxy which will make that a bear to service in the future...but I don't know much about it from this end. Thanks for the content and I hope you both are fairing well. Delays help us practice the patience needed to experience the full adventure.

Hey Paul Thanks for all your advice we really appreciate it. If we had more time we would have asked Danny to make changes to the gear but time is ticking and we are nearing the end of the safe season to leave Panama. Thanks for taking the time to leave your message 😁⛵⛵⛵

One problem with a bilge pump is if the float switch gets stuck in the on position it can kill your batteries before you know it, if you install one make sure you have in indicator light shows when the pump is pumping.

Another great video keeping us tensely awaiting the outcome of your repairs! Amazing solidarity to get you back on the water! The risk with the stainless steel rivets is that they may become brittle, so if one snaps, assume the two others need changing as well! Wishing you fair winds and a safe journey ! 😎

Discovered your channel about a week ago. Have been binge watching. Sailed the long way from San Francisco to Viet Nam in Spring of 65 with 2500 other nineteen-year-olds on a cranky troop ship that broke down several times. Eventually towed to Midway Island, Pacific, changed ships and finished in Cam Rahn Bay VN. Over 30 days. Have seen most of your circumnavigation of UK from Cardiff, Spain, Canaries, Atlantic crossing (Made me think of C. Columbus), US coast to NYC, Nova Scotia, and again to the Caribbean, Colon, Panama, now to infinity and beyond. God Bless navigators, the God of light, who was and is and will be over the face of the deep.

Hey welcome to the channel 😀 That's quite some story thanks for sharing it with us I bet you absolutely loved it. We hope you enjoyed the second series leaving the UK and cruising the Caribbean and America. It's been an amazing adventure so far and we really only have just scrapped the surface 🌍

I would be the first on the General Leroy Eltinge steel deck at 0500. I could sing then (still do in church), and Roy Orbison was my favorite. At Midway, troops went ashore (2000), and the Navy sent over palletfulls of beer. There were young Goony Birds, all fluffy grey in nests near shore. I guess the parents went for a run at our appearance. Goonies need a run to get aloft. After Midway Island, we put on stores in Subic Bay and Manila, Philippines. A volcano was spewing ash in a southerly island. We were under in the doldrums (did not know the name until you called out the phenomenon) where flying fish could not make a go of but a few feet over mirror water. Our destination Vung Tao is 9 degrees Northk latitude. It felt pretty strange to be on the other side of the Pacific from near Seattle, Washington, where I still reside. Liked the gaff hook you made for the big ones. I think you were using a filet. Just about any small fish will lure/ subdue a bigger fish. Add some sinking weight, 1/2kelo open line slider. You remember Ishmel's best friend Qeequeg, the tattooed prince from a South Sea island. 🏝 A harpoon far survival fishing, and self defense. There are more than sharks at sea. I have many smiles and chuckles with you. Tight lines.

Thanks for sharing that insight into your past. We absolutely enjoyed reading it and imagining we were there! A sea of no wind that's the doldrums. I can imagine flying fish going nowhere. The large Gaff was given to us by Clyde from Nova Scotia. He was a fisherman all his life, it was a gift.
