Hey all, just a note: I mistakenly recorded Minigun at 30m instead of 50m during the test portion. Apologies! What affect does this have? well it makes the close-range graph much more in favor of Minigun without implants (im pretty sure with recoil implant, all shots hit at 50m anyway). The graph is fairly accurate at 30m tho, since Overdriver has little/no falloff between those ranges, so the only thing that changes is my estimation on Minigun Range (without pilot) that is equal to Overdriver performance, which i said was ~75m based on data, but is probably closer to ~60m. Does seem similar to what we theorized on this weapon. Always love when you break it down though. I can also see where the dps of the minigun can pull away even a bit more if you are able to pre-fire to spin up the barrel. I know you dont do that for raw testing, but I would think people who use the weapon regularly get in that habit and it will help its dps more. Still, great comparison.

yea, also Overdriver can be kept at maximum damage (instead of overheating and then cooling down to lower dmg) to kill faster as well. doing so during the test would introduce human error tho, so i opted not to

I’m telling you this weapons gunna be good lol mark my words. Reloads shorter Damage is higher at higher with heat level Fast mechs or shielded mechs will be able to deal fast high damage at very close and high ranges.

Overdriver is Assault, Minigun is Heavy Duty. The reason to compare them is that, when posed with the question "which weapon do i buy?", you know which one is more beneficial for what you want it for. Most people likely wont have the means to get both (even if Overdriver were for acoins), so this saves them time/resources

appreciate the support! in regard to those 3 weapons: Railgun Range is nice if thats your only sniper, but its usually not, and most often used under 100m, so the implant isnt necessary. EM Range is great, it actually reduces the range necessary to deal max damage (from 75m down to like 50m). Mortar Range is kinda pointless imo. anyone who gets that close will probably kill you, so best to save that slot for something else. Hope that helps :)

Well I love minigun, pairing it with eclipse and sometimes bastion and demolish a crowded control point or just breaking the enemy line of defense

Even if overdriven has slightly more burst it can’t outclass mini-gun suppressive fire because you can block a whole lane with this weapon.

yea ive only done a couple comparisons where i featured more than 2 weapons, but i dont think ill do many more. the issue is that its very difficult to talk about results in a 3-way comparison, talking about pros/cons of 2 is much easier to do, as well as easier to understand. Probably ill make a few "mega-comparisons" where i have like 6 different weapons at a time (and just not talk about the results), but only after ive done 2-way ones for each weapon

Going to be honest I think the overdriver will be better because it doesn’t leave the really long reload time and doesn’t have to deal with slow turning speed

why not just use a minigun 16 for the test?

because all of my tests are done with 24 energy, as the "average" late-game output. more energy makes everything look very similar (because it all kills fast), and less energy just takes too long and isnt as realistic to real battle

At first glance it looks awful. But it does pack a heavy punch. Can deal damage close range with mingun, long range with mortar, and has the scorpius mech ability for around corners. My biggest issues are the pilot mismatch, and the fact he isn't using 12 mortar rockets.

because i want an accurate depiction of how fast it kills late-game (since the weapons are max). most players use medium mechs, so a single 16 or double 16 is just not an accurate representation of what your kill-time will look like

I love the minigun too much to switch over 🥲 very used to pre-spinning constantly especially around corners so I can get the quickest dps seeing someone, Minigun 16s on my Onyx, so effective!!
