In this video I’ll take you on a walk through the Laurelhurst neighborhood in Portland, OR. We will discuss whether or not the quality of life is actually improving in the city, or not. On the menu will be topics such as traffic, vagrancy, cost of living, crime, and changes in certain laws. I’ll also show you what $1,000,000usd gets you in this neighborhood currently and what the immediate surrounding look like. Please contribute to the discussion in the comments.

When I first moved to Portland in 2020, I was horrified and shocked, nothing what I had expected. Fast forward to 2024 and I’ve noticed big improvements. There’s still work to do but things seem to be heading up instead of down. I feel we hit rock bottom in 2021-2022 but have been experiencing a slow but steady upward trajectory ever since. If that trend continues, I have high hopes for 2025 and beyond. Overall I love living here despite the negatives and all the positives have kept me here!

That’s my favorite park! I live close in that area in Portland. I’m in SE on hawthorn street. I moved here in August. I love Portland, mainly for the food. The food is incredible and healthier choices. I’m within reach to everything I need and even more. I’m very happy with where I live in Portland. It’s beautiful especially in the fall.

Portland also has a lot of creativity and the arts, and entertainment which is another reason why I moved. Added to that I was able to find a space to rent in a big house that has 3 to 4 floors for only 600 a month. That with being on the street of hawthorn with all the food and entertainment on that street. I can’t complain.

I moved to Portland in the late 90s and stayed until 2013. I moved to NYC for 6 years and came back in 2018, and it's been a struggle ever since. It's so expensive. My partner had to move away for work and went back to Peoria, IL, and I've been living with my parents for a while. I can't afford anything by myself, and for higher-paying jobs, you're having to compete against hundreds of applicants. I've decided to move away to Illinois as well where there cost of living is less expensive.

I moved from NE Portland in April. Moved over to Beaverton in Washington County. It's such a difference over here! There are very small pockets of vagrants and crime but it's nothing like Portland/Multnomah County.. I was here 2 mths before I even saw a homeless person! My car insurance actually went down $40 a month when I moved. Portland is a sh*thole.

I left Portland in late 2020... lived there for the most of 15 years.... it became a living nightmare. I miss it like crazy, what it once was, not how it transformed. I do hope it continues to get better. The beauty in the Northwest is unmatched... I hope to get back, maybe somewhere in Oregon or Washington.

Come over to the Westside of PDX. I moved to Portland in 2004 from Berlin. I lived in the Buckman neighborhood for over a decade, than other areas on the Eastside, including NE and N Portland/ St. John’s. It is such a significant difference on the Westside. I now live in Hillsdale where I feel much safer. My car was stolen, my home invaded since the pandemic on the Eastside, hence my reason for relocation. I am European, born and raised in a metropole like Berlin. I never thought I would prefer to live not totally in the inner city. I am still in Multnomah county but walking 500 feet I am in WA country, which has much better tax rates and better school ratings. By moving here something else very bewildering happened. My credit score went up significantly plainly by change of address. I also have a lower car insurance rate because over here on the Westside there are by far way less theft activities. Yay for me!!!

Portland definitely had its downturn 4-5 years back and it was hard to watch its decline which happened so quickly. She went through bad growing pains with the big migration here and poor government leadership. The last couple of years she has been on a slow but steady reversal and is climbing out of that disaster. I was downtown a couple of times in the past month and it actually looked like the old Portland and I felt perfectly safe. I did note a lot less people and feel they need to work hard to get employees back into the office which is so important for the economic recovery of a city.

The question more than anything would be if you see yourself returning to your hometown, if you imagine yourself settling down and having a life there with your wife, since sometimes priorities change as we mature and learn from other places as we travel and stays in other cities or countries, the needs change according to our mental and physical growth, in addition to the fact that we always look for the best options to live in places where we are happy and feel comfortable. PS Portland always been one of the cities i always thought was the best for people and who everyone wanted to be there as u mention many in Cali are moving there recently but yes the places looks great and that neighborhood looks great.
