One Hall of Fame inducted poker player per year is ridiculous when there are 10's of thousands playing in WSOP tourneys alone. Should be two minimum for sure. Baseball has an average of 3 inductees per year and less than 2000 players play in the MLB each year.

the POY rules are set, if you dont like them, give it to the player that wins the most bracelets and have a tie breaker.

They need to award the points for the given event, but then just give a bonus to the winner just for being the winner. Or just add the stipulation that in order to be eligible for POY, you have to win at least one bracelet

They should take out the high rollers or make them worth much less POY points than they do now. Huni shouldn't be at the top of the leaderboard just because he FTed 2 high rollers. It should be more about how large the fields are than how much money the prizepool is.

They should adopt a Tour De France style award system, where they have jackets for overall race winners, best climbers, etc. there should be a best finishes/most wins trophy (must win one bracelet min), most gross cashes (must cash X amount of events or exclude certain high rollers/main event), and best overall (committee decided or by TBD metrics)

They should do player of the year and also have most valuable player of the series. Some years both would go to the same player if they set themselves that far away from the field

does the player of the year get something other than bragging rights?

I personally don't think that the Player of the Year formula is _explicitly_ unbalanced with regards to buy-in vs field size; its biggest problem is how flat it is. While 1st place always gets double points compared to 2nd place, the rest of a final table reduces at a miniscule rate. A 5k buy-in with 500 entries looks like this: Position Points % of 1st place 1st 1110 100.00% 2nd 555 50.00% 3rd 499 44.95% 4th 444 40.00% 5th 416 37.48% 6th 388 34.95% 7th 333 30.00% 8th 305 27.48% 9th 277 24.95% This is the hidden reason for why smaller field sizes are biased: It's easier to reach an final relative to winning the bracelet itself, for which the points you receive are still substantial. Just reducing total points based on field size won't fix the issue; what's needed is a sharper fall in points at the final table.

Just do it like the baseball hall of fame. A panel of voters vote yes/no on everyone who is nominated. Anyone who receives at least 75% yes vote gets inducted.

The rules are the points. If you just give the guy player of the year because he won 3 events then what do you do next year when 2 people win 2. It just becomes a popularity contest at that point and Negreanu then wins every year. Points are there for a reason as she said. Fix it next year if you want to put more weight on a bracelet. 500 bonus points or something. That being said it would be wrong if he didn’t win but rules are rules.

May be make the points a tie breaker for if multiple people win the same amount of bracelets. Also make FTs of small events worth less (or nothing special).

No sane person is gonna say someone that won no bracelets was better that year than a guy that did. 3 is so unbelievably hard to do in a year.

@@geoffedward4702 not even a comparable argument here when your talking about an whole career. We are talking about a single season and winning 3 in 1 series is absolutely better than not winning any.
