Very dope. The sound is amazing. With the Neve and API summing it’s just beyond what most DAWS have to offer sonically. It’s become my co-main DAW. I use Luna and Reaper on every project.

Studio One is excellent. Definitely give Luna a try, not that big of a learning curve if you know pro tools and It’s free. It’s missing some features like a plugin for hardware I/O. But for the most part it does what I need it to do.

Luna is incredibly fast at editing, just like Pro Tools. The key commands have me flying all over the program, trimming clips, zooming in, and arranging them to the grid. When I go back to Logic Pro, it feels so slow and outdated. The user interface is pure eye candy too lol. The team at UAD understands what users want. Watching the UAD Luna office hours live streams has made me even more appreciative of the effort that has gone into this DAW.
@jacksp8de
@jacksp8de 23 күн бұрын
@@iamvelour Same! The after hours stuff was clutch. Wish they do them again. Let me ask you, do you know how to record with the clips overlapping. In pro tools you can record over your last take, in logic or goes into comping. In Luna seems like they just keep stacking unless I delete them.
@iamvelour
@iamvelour 23 күн бұрын
@@jacksp8de In Pro Tools, does it playlists that take you record over the clip or does it completely rewrite it? In Logic, I know it comps it. In Luna, if you just keep recording over a clip without looping it, it will create another clip and stack it. However, if you hit Control-Backslash right before you end the recording or anytime during the recording, or even before the recording, it will move the clip to another version in its own playlist lane and won’t stack on top of each other. And then when you want to hear those different takes, you can hit shift up or down with the arrow keys. This is the workflow I use, and it’s incredibly effective. You never lose a take, and it’s quick and efficient. Give this a try. I think you would really like it.

Pro Tools remains the ‘corporate’ DAW of choice for businesses doing jingles and things of that nature. It makes sense. These suits don’t care about production. They just want their deadline met. It’s easier, obviously, to be more efficient with a platform that pretty much all corporate types are familiar with and that’s Pro Tools. Anyone producing music that doesn’t have a 24 track desk in the A Room, who is less than 40 years old, is probably not using Pro Tools.

Luna is good but can't pitch vocals in Luna
@jacksp8de
@jacksp8de 21 күн бұрын
Nah it can't do pitch correction, but you can pitch individual clips really well. I'm not sure if it has ARA so you can use melodyne. I use Auto Tune and that works for what I'm doing. If I'm mixing large amounts of pop vocals then I'm using Pro Tools or Studio One.

"If you want to work in the industry you have to use..." and that's the criteria for industry standard. It's only when you had to use a commercial studio that you had to use the industry standard, be it Pro Tools or 2 inch tape before it. With the closure of the big studios and the rise of home studios Pro Tools is no longer needed. The home studio used to beat the pro studios back in the 70s 80s and 90s and now there are so many home studios that most of the pro studios are out of business
@jacksp8de
@jacksp8de 23 күн бұрын
@@RoomAtTheTopStudioII Right. There are still lots of commercial studios here in Atlanta and most use pro tools, but I know a pretty well known mixing engineer that uses Logic and he works with big names. If you are a recording engineer I understand using pro tools because a lot of artists still expect you to have it and they don’t know any better. Same thing with a U87 or Sony C800. I personally don’t care because I produce for artists remotely and they use whatever they use to record and send me the vocals. Other than that I’m just recording and mixing myself.

@@jacksp8de I work the same way as you do over here in the UK. Fortunately the artists over here aren't really snobby about Pro Tools or the mic. As long as it sounds good they work with it. The production houses that still are running do use Pro Tools but they are now in a minority over here compared to the youths in their bedrooms making music. A lot of the Grime and UK Rap crew use FL Studio, Logic or Reason. Even the big EDM producers use Logic more than Pro Tools. Every era comes to an end at some point and I believe Pro Tools, although I doubt it will faze out completely any time soon, is no longer the industry standard in the UK.

I love LUNA myself I have all the extensions, the Neve and API Summing and I have all the UAD plugins. I’ve mixed in LUNA and it sounds better to me then all the other DAW’s but LUNA still has a ways to go before it’s complete and I could even think about switching from Logic. PT is a DAW I refuse to ever use because it’s not that good in my opinion, Cubase, Studio One, Aberton, Reason and FL are much better to produce and create than PT which is over priced and overrated
@jacksp8de
@jacksp8de 21 күн бұрын
I agree! I have the api and neve and even if I mix in another DAW I would benefit by just running it through the Luna Summing. Closest thing I can get to real hardware summing. I used to have long debates about PT with my industry friends. I was all about Logic. They eventually got me to learn PT and I hated it at first but grew to actually respect the audio editing. Still it’s just not flexible or user friendly enough. They didn’t even have pinch to zoom and I use a trackpad. They finally do now but they are behind on a lot of other stuff.
@oneguyz11
@oneguyz11 21 күн бұрын
@ I agree with you as well, PT is only the industry standard because of their marketing to the studios, schools and retailers. Now we have a lot of brainwashed audio engineers that are stuck on PT and are too stubborn to switch to other DAW’s even if they’re better! I have this debate with an old friend that’s an audio engineer that’s one of those guys that’s stuck on PT.

@@oneguyz11 lol brainwashed. If they in the industry I get it though. If Beyoncé coming through you probably gotta use it lol Some of them engineers is cold in PT too. You have to learn those key commands though. They definitely inserted themselves firmly in the game so that’s probably why they been behind. They didn’t have nobody that could knock them out their spot. Now with home studios we can choose what we want so they rushing to catch up
