Is PSVR2 & GT7 Really as Good as They Say? An Honest Review from a PCVR Quest 2 Sim Racer - I Had to Buy It and See - I finally did it and purchased a PSVR2 headset and GT7 just to see what all the hype was about. As a Sim racer who has been racing in VR on PC for years with an original Quest, Rift S and Quest 2, I had to see why everyone was making it out like PSVR2 just created the best VR racing experience to date. Everywhere you look you see people praising PSVR2 and GT7 as if it blows away PCVR but is that actually true? Let's strap in, get racing and see what this headset can do.

Yo guys! Just a heads up that the colors in this recording for GT7 might look off. Had something to do with the recorded file the PS5 produced and Adobe Premiere Pro. While this video is mainly focused on my first impressions of the PSVR2 headset, I'll be bringing our more content focused on GT7 itself. I'm excited to play through the game!

Well,as a vetaran gt player since ps1,play through all the license tests and cafe menu's,if you do it correctly you won't have to spend any real world money and earn cars that can make you money when you unlock the rest of the game,then the car leagues that you like like LMP le mans machines or gr1 or gr2 cars and tracks become available,hopefully it helps and look for credit builds from say for example from VOSS on youtube! To have access to the entire game and all it has to offer just like the first gt almost 25 yrs ago,you gotta unlock all the license tests and ontop also the cafe menu's,i promise you,once you get your hands on the big boy cars you'll see what i already know from a day 1 psvr2 user and remember, the ENTIRE GAME is playable in all the modes and online as well!

I'd say that the PSVR2 also offers a value proposition. With decent PC hardware being so expensive in my country, and the Oculus 2 also being so expensive, and the HTC Vive being even more expensive, one could get a PS5 and PSVR2 for less than a decent VR PC, or even just GPU upgrade, plus decent PCVR headset. The PSVR2 has the opportunity to put VR in more people's hands, including those who would have not considered VR previously.
@thecasualracinggamer

It's definitely a solid choice for those who already dished out the money for a PS5 and are already half way there. It might still be a little expensive for some though as it's price is coming in higher then the cost of the PS5 itself. Wished they could of priced it a little less to get into even more hands.

@@thecasualracinggamer the PS5 must be pretty cheap in the US, but then the US didn't get the price risse those of us outside of the US did get from what I've read :) For me I can get a PS5 plus PSVR2 for under $1800 AUD. I'd need to spend about $1200 AUD for a 7900XT, for example, plus about $900 for a HTC Vive, as I refuse to give Zuckerberg my money, so no Meta Oculus for me, though it's about $650 AUD for a 256GB model. Our rubbish exchange rate right now makes it harder financially for a lot of items over here.

Couple of things to note about GT7 on PSVR2....1) Turn down the brightness in the heaset by going to the PS5 assesories menu. By default the brightness is set to 100%. This contributes alot to what people have called mura and you are referring to as DSE (dirty screen effect). Personally I have found that about halfway is plenty bright and drastically cuts down on the sensation that the screen has DSE or mura. 2) if you only play singleplayer you will have to complete the campaign (36 menu books) before you start getting into racecars and to unlock all the courses. I actually think just to get a feel for the physics model of the game, playing the complete campaign is the best way to play GT7. I know everyone wants to get in and start playing around with the GR3 and GR4 race cars right away but the game brings tuning options into the picture and in some of the more challenging races you will need to tune a beater car into something race worthy. 3) The game is designed for car enthusiasts and you are gonna find that the overwhelming majority of cars in the game are road cars that can be tuned into race cars. The game does have full on race cars, rally cars, Hypercars and even F1 cars, that you can purchase or win but the core singleplayer game is built around learning the drivings physics, learning the tuning, and enjoying all the cars that are available. Hope you have fun and if you make it to menubook 9 it should unlock the multiplayer which is the part of the game that takes GT to that next level as you can compete in world championships and even an Olympic racing event.

Turn the PSVR2 brightness down to about 70-80%, test it in a scene with good HDR contrast and adjust so it looks like HDR still but the MURA is less noticeable, then in GT7 try adjusting Saturation in Options, Display to full

I deeply appreciate this review as I am almost certainly going to get one eventually, but I’m feeling FOMO for not getting to experience it right away… So it is very comforting to hear someone who is familiar with the tech say that it is good and worth getting just for GT7 (also my primary interest in this particular headset), but that it is not so much better than sliced bread that I must run out and place my order as soon as possible.

Of course it all comes down to budget but if you have the money, PSVR2 is worth it for just GT7 in my opinion. It is a game with tremendous replay value. I only use my VR headsets for racing. If you never have used a quality VR headset to race than I am sure you will be blow away by the initial experience. If you have raced on a PCVR headset running on a decent PC before than it will be similar to that, maybe a little less quality then you might have experienced already.

It took me around a month to stop the motion sickness. Short playtime, rest for about the same time then back on it for a while. Some say that having a fan on you helps. Travel sickness tablets and ginger are other things people use. Also the pace of GT7 doesn't help if you are relatively new to VR. Playing games with less motion can help get your legs easier.

So it's not that PSVR2 and the GT7 is a bad experience. It's actually a great game and the headset while not the best I've seen, it still performs well. I think the question comes down to what games you want to play. If you want more of a story line, more arcadey racing game with a ton of things thrown in than GT7 offers that. If you are looking for more complete Sim like stuff and just straight up racing then PC is where that is going to be. What are your PC specs now? If you can still run the Quest 2 okay on it and also go PSVR2 than you can really have the best of both worlds.

The advantage PSVR2 has is eye tracking where they can make what you are looking at clear and less detail everywhere else, which allows the PS5 to deliver good graphics if done write. I think PSVR2 outperforms my other vr setup with Quest 2 and PC with RTX 3080. The only time the PC comes close is when I lower the frame rate to 80 Hz and race in fine weather. Sadly I can't use the spotter from crew chief with GT7, but the wider field of view, in general better graphics and the "plug and play" makes PSVR2 better for my needs. I have been very out of touch with serious simracing for many years. I did put a lot of hours into some sims more than ten years ago, with my still loving Logitech DFP, which isn't even a good racing wheel. Now I'm older and I don't feel like putting a lot of time into fine tuning cars for each circuit and such, so a more casual simcade like GT7 is just what I want to spend hours of fun casual racing. Also, upgrading my mid-low spec gaming PC would require a lot of money, I would have to build a whole system from scratch + racing wheel + VR headset. As I'm getting an unexpected 1400€ bonus, buying a PS5 + VR2 + G29 + GT7 makes a lot more sense than spending that same money upgrading my perfectly fine otherwise PC. Also, I want to play some other games too. Like you said, it's a lot of money, but racing games have so much replay value. Hell, I've been playing GT4 on a PS2 emulator for PC for weeks now and it's still so much fun. There have been rumors that PSVR2 prices might go down soon due to slow sales, and that's the only thing that is maybe going to hold me down for now, but I'll definitely buy one.

@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's playable but you're really not going to get the true experience of a racing game using a controller, especially when paired with a VR headset. It's hard to even go back to a controller for racing games on a 2D screen once you switch to a wheel and pedals. If you can scrounge up another $200 bucks or so for an inexpensive wheel and pedals, maybe not today but as a future purchase I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.

Do you think the quest 2 with a powerful PC is a better purchase over the PS5 with the PSVR2?
@thecasualracinggamer
@thecasualracinggamer Жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you are looking to get out of it. I use my VR headsets strictly for VR racing. I personally would not leave PCVR because I think iRacing is the best Sim out there and works great in VR. GT7 though, on PSVR2 offers a different type of racing experience and after logging a few hours in the game now, I'm really enjoying it. PCVR also has some other great racing games as well while PSVR2 currently has one, but that one game can definitely keep you busy. Just speaking about VR quality, my Quest 2 running PCVR on my PC with an RTX 3080 GPU and i7 CPU gives a better, more clear picture. Also, GT7 runs at 60fps with rear projection doubling frames to 120Hz but with the Quest 2 you can run 72Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz without rear projection depending on your system. PC Games also give you options to tweak the graphics so you can change things in order to run higher frames if that is important to you. If you are going to be playing all types of VR games, I think PSVR2 might start to deliver some AAA quality games unlike what we saw with PSVR1 when things were more like demos. Also, the Quest 3 is supposed to be dropping later this year which improves even more over the Quest 2. So at that time we'll see a better Quest headset but also I would expect Quest 2s to hit the used market at good prices. So it's really hard to tell someone how they should spend their money. I think PS5 with PSVR2 would make plenty of people happy and so would a high end PC with a VR headset. The price will definitely not be the the same between the two so it also comes down to what you want to spend. Don't forget there is also a HP Reverb G2 that is another great PCVR headset with a high resolution. Also depends if you want to play wireless PCVR with a Quest 2 or also wireless standalone VR games not hooked up your PC. Sorry, that was a pretty long response and probably just gave you even more things to think about.

Show me a racing pc game with that graphics for this price (hardware needed to run this type of smoothness at that resolution) . Quest 2 as you mentioned has image generated by streaming video (as i tested it's not good at all, too much artefacts) and it's only one for that price for pcvr. Other better headsets are way more expensive for pcvr, not I mention hpG2 for SIM racers is still the one to go but for the price of beefy pc hardware, graphics cards to run this VR headset cost way more than pc5+psvr2 .

I never claimed a PCVR experience doesn't cost more but that also doesn't mean people can't afford PCVR. The problem I have seen with so many initial reviews of PSVR2 it would make you think that it outshines PCVR at half the cost but that's not the case. Linus Tech Tips even has a video titled 'PlayStation just Killed PC VR'. This is not true. Also, if your Quest 2 experience hooked up to a decent PC and settings were corrct didn't look good than something was wrong.

You're seeing that double image effect because the game runs at 60fps then frame doubled to 120fps for head movement, so you are actually catching double frames. Not all games will use reprojected frames just the more demanding ones like GT7 and RE. Games that run at native 90 or 120 fps shouldn't have any of that ghosting effect (in theory). I noticed it on some games on PSVR1 too.

Just ordered the PSVR2. Hopefully PSVR2 will be allowed to work on pc in the near future because the specs of the PSVR2 alone is held back by ps5 hardware. It's kind of hard to go back to 60fps itself, so can''t imagine 60fps in VR, but oh well. I'd say a ps5 is probably equivalent to a 3060 or maybe a bit better when the games are extremely optimized. So yeah, definitely held back by hardware as the ps5 itself can't even hit 120fps without sacrificing a ton. PSVR2 has OLED and 120hz screens? Yeah, ps5 games can't fully utilize the benefits of the beautiful OLED 120hz screens.

You would think Sony would address the grainy effect if not eneything before releasing basically a redesigned model of the psvr1 model. All Sony did was take the box and camera and minimize it to 1 cord and added better controllers and eye support. I own a oculous rift and a quest 1 and 2 and a psvr 1 and the quest 2 paired with any of the project cars franchise is by far the best experience I've had in sim racing hands down although at times the vr version acts slightly funny when your at top speeds but still better then Sonys headsets eneyday and that goes 4 all the games inside the quest 2 they run better look better and feel better.

LOL. I don't think it's that bad. I just think what the specs are what it can do are two different things. It's a 4K, 120Hz headset but the PS5 can't push that resolution or frame rate in VR. So they could have made it an 8K headset but that wouldn't have mattered at all. It comes down to what the actual PS5 can output in VR. I have no idea why they did GT7 in 60Hz rear projected to 120Hz. It would have looked and ran better at a true 72Hz with no rear projection. As much as people think they need 120Hz in VR, I run my Quest 2 at 72Hz and could not be happier.
